Question No.1: Carefully read the case study and answer the questions at the
end. 2 x 3 = 6 Marks
Mr. Shuakat established an IT based company called Micro Solutions (Pvt.) Ltd. in
Lahore in 2016. The objective is to exploit the potential gains of profits in niche market
of customers of micro finance institutions. He conducted the comprehensive market
research and concluded that customers of micro finance bank needs easy to use IT
applications to check account details, transaction funds, pay utility bills etc from their
mobile phones. Since the customers doesn’t belong to very well off orbit of society, so
developing such type of mobile applications with collaboration of micro finance banks
is a challenging initiative.
The direction of business model was correct, however, finding relevant IT resources
was a daunting task. Eventually facing odds and difficult situations, finally Mr. Shuakat
managed to hire desired team of IT professionals. The Micro Solutions business
development team succeeded to engage couple of micro finance banks for development
of tailored mobile applications which run on platform of IPhone and Android. It was
win-win agreement as not only it will facilitate the customers of the banks but Micro
Solutions will emerge as pioneer in the niche market.
Mr. Shuakat understood the importance of project management methodologies. He also

had a fair idea of agile software development methodology. Agile software
development describes an approach to software development under which
requirements and solutions evolve through the collaborative effort of self-organizing
and cross-functional teams and their customer/end users. By effectively using the
methodology, not only Micro Solutions was able to minimize great deal of anticipated
risks but also the product was developed in shorter time of one year with excellent
customer satisfaction in beta version testing.
“Now after successfully delivering customized application on mobile phones for micro
financial institution, its time to diversify and expand the business across Pakistan”,
proposed Mr. Adeel, the director of business development in one of the executive board
meetings. This is clear question of business strategy i.e, where Micro Solutions are at
the moment and where and how the company want to be. Mr. Shuakat agreed with the
idea. However, there are few questions in the mind of Mr. Shuakat:
Do we really need to diversify in various domains and also expand the operations in big
cities of Pakistan including Islamabad, Karachi and Multan.
Q a) If so, then how management of such projects would likely to be successful, keeping
in view the head office is based at Lahore.
Q b) What mechanism would be used to manage projects of different type which are
not geographically related.
You are required to help Mr. Shuakat by answer above questions.
Question No.2 (3 marks)
A well-known contracting company in the town, in board meeting recently decided to

set up PMO Office. You have been assigned the task to list down items pertaining to
planning phase. You may assume following:
The company is managing various construction projects across Pakistan. The total cost
of works is 4 Billion having more than 10 projects.
Question No.3 (3 marks)
Elaborate the relationship between strategic alignment and role of PMO. You may
consider example of your organization to support your argument.
Question No. 4 (3 marks)
MS Project is tool which comes under the category of “Project Planning and Oversight”.
Please elaborate the effectiveness of MS Project in schedule management. You are
required to elaborate:
1) Gantt Chart
2) Network diagram and critical path
3) Resource Sheet
4) Various reports (5 No.)
