Control 3
2. Write down an experimental method (procedure) for this experiment based on the
description given. Use numbered steps and clear instructions.
3. The following is the data collected by the student in the experiment. Complete the
table by calculating the averages for each angle used. ROUND ALL YOUR
ANSWERS TO TWO DECIMAL PLACES. Use Excel and paste your processed data
in the “average” column.
5. In Excel, plot the DEPENDENT vs INDEPENDENT variables. Paste your graph here
and make sure it has all the necessary elements.
6. Making reference to your graph, conclude what can be said about the research
problem the student wrote: “how the angle of impact with the surface affects the size
of the crater left by the marble on the clay surface”
7. When designing the experiment, the student wrote the following hypothesis:
“If the impact angle of the marble on the clay is bigger, then the diameter of the crater
on the surface will remain the same”
Referring to the data of the experiment or the graph you produced, evaluate the
validity of this hypothesis.
8. Suggest an explanation for the results of the experiment (assume that there were no
errors in the measurements so they are all valid)
9. Read again the description of the experiment and look at the diagram to suggest one
possible limitation that you identify in the procedure (something that could make the
results unreliable). Explain how the identified limitation could have affected the
experiment and suggest a way to solve it.
