She graduated from Far Eastern University Girls' High School and enrolled in nursing school but had to end her studies when the Battle of Manila occurred in 1944. Polotan taught at Arellano University and took writing courses. She is best known for her short story "The Virgin" published in 1952, which won two literary prizes and depicts a 34-year-old woman's longing for love and conflicted feelings towards a carpenter.
