    The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is the national standards body of India that oversees the development of standards. It took over the work of the Indian Standards Institution in 1986 when the BIS Act was passed by Parliament. BIS has 14 technical sectors covering the scope of work from ISO and IEC. These sectors have sectional, sub and panel committees composed of manufacturers, laboratories, government bodies, consumer organizations and others. BIS follows a consensus process for developing standards and considers factors like technology, materials, coordination with other standards, and stakeholder consultation.

    through enactment of BIS Act (1986) by the
