In the Christian perspective and the divine law, there is only male and female created by
God who were instructed to multiply and take dominion over all the earth as written in
Genesis. However, as time went by, man created its own norms and definition of what
sex and gender mean.
In your own words, differentiate Gender Identity from Gender expression thru an
example
A person's gender identity may be the same as or different from their birth-assigned
sex. Gender expression is how a person publicly expresses or presents their gender.
This can include behavior and outward appearance such as dress, hair, make-up, body
language and voice. In example for gender identity, you feel inside that you are a
female and in order to express this (gender expression) some stereotypes for female is
that they wear dress and put make up.
Sexuality is the part of you expressed thru sexual activities and relationships. It is
represented thru your feelings behaviors and your sexual identity.
How is sexuality expressed? Sexuality cam be express through your sexual feelings,
thoughts, attractions and behaviors towards other people. You can find other people
physically, sexually or emotionally attractive, and all those things are a part of your
sexuality. Sexuality is diverse and personal, and it is an important part of who you are.
Discovering your sexuality can be a very liberating, exciting and positive experience.

As a student nurse, why do you think that LGBTQ people have a higher rate of tobacco
use, alcohol use, STD, multiple diseases and even cancer?
As a student nurse, I knew that some vices are used by people for recreational use.
Most says “to escape”, people think that having this vices will help them forget the
issues and problems that they have, even just for a while. In line with this, LGBTQ
population is considered especially vulnerable because of high rates of depression and
social and employment discrimination, all of which are associated with higher
prevalence of tobacco use, alcohol use and different diseases. As for STD and multiple
diseases, having multiple partners and unsafe sex are one of the reasons.
Why do you think some health care providers are not so welcoming in handling LGBTQ
clients?
One that I see as a reason is faith, we all knew that all of us are diverse in terms of what
we believe in, in example Catholics to which the church thought them that there is only
male and female. However, I believe that as healthcare providers, it is part of our job to
value the uniqueness of our patients. I think LGBTQ people do not expect all of us to
accept them, but at least respect and give what is due for them since we have
commonality to them, they are also “human being” who deserves to be loved and be
cared of.
Why is it important for these LGBTQ individuals to get their families and friends’
approval in both finding themselves and their identities?
As mentioned in the video, some people really struggle about their identity, not only
LGBTQ population but also male and female. One solution for this is having people
around you that will listen and help you, I think family and friends are the most suitable
people on those times since they are the one who knows you from the start. Also,
having their approval will be helpful too, because it boost your moral as a person that
even-though the world judge you of your identity, the most important thing is that the
significant people in your life accepts you. They will be your foundation, your core to
continue being just you and being good person.
What do you think are the top two things every LGBTQ individual would wish to feel and
enjoy in his life?
When I hear news and statements from LGBTQ people, they always voice out their
concerns about discrimination and unfair treatment to them. I believe they do not please
people for acceptance but only respect that matters most. Respect for their uniqueness
and and chosen identity. Another is freedom, they felt that they cannot express
themselves freely, because the society limits them. I, as a human being, I pray that
someday these two simple things yet consider important in making them complete will
be given on the right time.
As soon to be registered nurse, how could you be of help to these members of our
society?
As nurses, we have so many roles, we can be their health providers when they are sick,
we can be their educators to which we can help them with the misinformations about
their gender, we can be advocates for them, we can be counselors that will listen, we
can be their friends whom they can share what they feel and of course we can be their
family that will be beside them to understand their situation.
