Light energy has different types. One of the types of light is Visible light. It is a type of electromagnetic
energy that can be seen through the naked eye. Our main source of visible light is the sun but it can also be
emitted by artificial lights such as lanterns, flashlight, light bulbs etc.
One of the most important characteristics of visible light is color. When white
light shines through a prism or through water vapor like a rainbow, the white
light is broken apart into the colors of the visible light spectrum. This
phenomenon is called dispersion. Dispersion is a special kind of refraction which
provides us colors of light.
When you see a rainbow, you notice that the colors always follow the same arrangement - ROYGBIV.
Colors in the rainbow actually show the hierarchy or level of energy that a certain color has.
This Visible Light Spectrum shows the wavelength and
frequency of each color. Wavelength is the distance
between two successive wave crests or troughs while
Frequency is the number of waves that passes per second.
These two also show the energy that a certain color has.
Note:
HIGH
● The shorter the wavelength, the higher the energy.
● The higher the frequency, the higher the energy.
● energy is directly proportional to the frequency and inversely proportional to wavelength.

Evaluation:
Direction: Read the following statements and identify which statement is true and which is not. Write
“TRUE” if the statement is correct and “FALSE” if not.
__________ 1. Light travels in a straight path very slowly.
__________ 4. Wavelength is the distance between two successive wave crests or troughs
__________ 5. The shorter the wavelength of light, the higher the energy.
__________ 6. The higher the frequency of light, the higher the energy
__________ 8. The lower the frequency of light, the higher the energy

Answers may vary.
Blue flames show greater energy making it ideal for cooking. Very high temperatures create mainly blue
flames. On the other hand, orange color flames show lower energy.
