PART 1 - GENERAL
A. Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary
Conditions and Division 01 Specification Sections, apply to this Section.
1.2 SUMMARY
A. Section includes shop-fabricated, acoustical panel units tested for acoustical performance,
including the following:
1.3 DEFINITIONS
1. Include reflected ceiling plans, elevations, sections, and mounting devices and details.
2. Include details at joints and corners; and details at ceiling intersections and intersections
with walls. Indicate panel edge profile and core materials.
3. Include direction of fabric weave and pattern matching.
4. Submit narrative description with reflected ceiling plans and details for suspension system
of acoustic suspended baffle panels, 09 8436A.
A. Coordination Drawings: Reflected ceiling plans and other details, drawn to scale, on which the
following items are shown and coordinated with each other, using input from installers of the items
involved:
1. Electrical outlets.
a. Lighting fixtures.
b. Air outlets and inlets.
c. Speakers.
d. Alarms.
e. Sprinklers.
f. Access panels.
A. Maintenance Data: For each type of unit to include in maintenance manuals. Include fabric
manufacturer's written cleaning and stain-removal instructions.
A. Comply with fabric and unit manufacturers' written instructions for minimum and maximum
temperature and humidity requirements for shipment, storage, and handling.
B. Deliver materials and units in unopened bundles and store in a temperature-controlled dry place
with adequate air circulation.
A. Environmental Limitations: Do not install units until spaces are enclosed and weathertight, wet-
work in spaces is complete and dry, work at and above ceilings is complete, and ambient
temperature and humidity conditions are maintained at the levels indicated for Project when
occupied for its intended use.
B. Air-Quality Limitations: Protect units from exposure to airborne odors, such as tobacco smoke,
and install units under conditions free from odor contamination of ambient air.
C. Field Measurements: Verify unit locations and actual dimensions of openings and penetrations
by field measurements before fabrication, and indicate them on Shop Drawings.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 MANUFACTURERS
A. Source Limitations: Obtain ceiling units specified in this Section from single source from single
manufacturer.
2. Fire Growth Contribution: Comply with acceptance criteria of local code and authorities
having jurisdiction when tested according to NFPA 286.
2. Panel Shape: Manufacturer’s standard rectangular vertical panel wedge shape in linear
baffles.
3. Mounting: Back mounted with manufacturer's standard suspension system , secured to
substrate.
4. Material: Class A PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) felting integral throughout material.
1) 43-1/2 inches.
2) 90 inches.
3) 114 inches.
9. Alternate Support System: At Contractor’s option suspend acoustic linear baffle panels
from new heavy-duty metal suspension system. Provide all components to meet panel
manufacturer’s requirements.
a. The existing standard-duty metal suspension system may be used with necessary
modifications to meet manufacturer’s written requirements for loading and lateral
stability. Provide calculations and engineered design for review in Submittals before
proceeding.
10. Colors: As selected by Architect from manufacturer’s full range of standard colors.
A. Decorative Acoustic Blankets: Acoustically absorbent 100 percent PET panels with a felted finish
for adhesive installation flat to ceiling surface as detailed in Drawings.
a. 3Form Sola-Felt.
b. Buzzi Space, Buzzi-Felt.
c. Frasch Felt Panels.
d. Kirei USA; Echo-Panel.
A. Furring Strips: See Section 061053 “Miscellaneous Rough Carpentry.” Use preservative treated
wood in contact with concrete, masonry and other cementitious substrates.
1. Follow the adhesive manufactures instructions for preparation and the acoustic blanket
manufacturer’s installation instructions for application on the panel.
2.6 FABRICATION
B. Cut decorative acoustic blankets in accordance with manufacturer’s written instructions. Cut only
on a clean and evenly supported surface.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 EXAMINATION
A. Examine baffles and blankets, fabricated units, substrates, areas, and conditions for compliance
with requirements, installation tolerances, and other conditions affecting unit performance.
B. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.
3.2 INSTALLATION
A. Install units in locations indicated. Unless otherwise indicated, install units with edges in alignment
with walls and other units, faces flush, and scribed to fit adjoining work accurately at borders and
at penetrations.
B. Comply with manufacturer's written instructions for installation of units using type of mounting
devices indicated. Mount units securely to supporting substrate.
D. Install acoustic baffles in accordance with manufacturer’s standard system using approved
components.
1. Install panels in consistent directionality of the PET fibers. The fibers should face in one
direction for best color matching.
E. Install acoustic blanket panels on furring to create air gap if indicated on Drawings. Install
according to manufacturer’s instructions.
3.3 CLEANING
B. Clean panels on completion of installation to remove dust and other foreign materials according
to manufacturer's written instructions.
E. Test Plan: Complete and detailed plan, with list of test equipment, procedures for inspection
and testing, and intended test date; submit at least 60 days prior to intended test date.
F. Field Test Reports.
G. Project Record Documents: Prepared and approved by BICSI Registered Communications
Distribution Designer (RCDD).
1. Record actual locations of outlet boxes and distribution frames.
2. Show as-installed color coding, pair assignment, polarization, and cross-connect layout.
3. Identify distribution frames and equipment rooms by room number on drawings.
1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Installer Qualifications: A company having at least 3 years experience in the installation and
testing of the type of system specified, and:
1. Employing a BICSI Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD).
2. Supervisors and installers factory certified by manufacturers of products to be installed.
3. Employing BICSI Registered Cabling Installation Technicians (RCIT) for supervision of all
work.
B. Products: Listed, classified, and labeled as suitable for the purpose intended.
C. Product Listing Organization Qualifications: An organization recognized by OSHA as a
Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) and acceptable to authorities having
jurisdiction.
1.6 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
A. Store products in manufacturer's unopened packaging until ready for installation.
B. Keep stored products clean and dry.
1.7 WARRANTY
A. Correct defective Work within a 2 year period after Date of Substantial Completion.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 MANUFACTURERS
A. The system shall be manufactured by Telecor, Inc. No substitutes.
2.2 SYSTEM DESIGN
A. Provide a complete permanent system of cabling and pathways for voice and data
communications, including cables, conduits and wireways, pull wires, support structures,
enclosures and cabinets, and outlets.
1. Comply with TIA-568 (SET) (cabling) and TIA-569 (pathways) (commercial standards).
2. Provide fixed cables and pathways that comply with NFPA 70 and TIA-607 and are UL
listed or third party independent testing laboratory certified.
3. Provide connection devices that are rated for operation under conditions of 32 to 140
degrees F ( 0 to 60 degrees C ) at relative humidity of 0 to 95 percent, noncondensing.
4. In this project, the term plenum is defined as return air spaces above ceilings, inside
ducts, under raised floors, and other air-handling spaces.
B. System Description:
1. Horizontal Cabling: Copper.
2.3 PATHWAYS
A. Conduit: As specified in Section 26 0533.13; provide pull cords in all conduit.
2.4 COPPER CABLE AND TERMINATIONS
A. Copper Horizontal Cable:
1. Description: 100 ohm, balanced twisted pair cable complying with TIA-568-C.2 and listed
and labeled as complying with UL 444.
2. Cable Type - Data: TIA-568-C.2 Category 6 UTP (unshielded twisted pair); 23 AWG.
3. Cable Capacity: 4-pair.
4. Cable Applications: Use listed NFPA 70 Type CMP plenum cable unless otherwise
indicated.
5. Cable Jacket Color - Voice and Data Cable: Blue.
6. Product(s):
a. General Cable Technologies Corporation; GenSPEED 6 Cables.
B. Copper Cable Terminations: Insulation displacement connection (IDC) type using appropriate
tool; use screw connections only where specifically indicated.
C. Category 6 Ethernet Terminations:
1. Contractor to terminate CAT 6 Ethernet at both ends using Panduit MiniCom as specified
or equivalent.
D. Jacks and Connectors: Modular RJ-45, non-keyed, terminated with 110-style insulation
displacement connectors (IDC); high impact thermoplastic housing; suitable for and complying
with same standard as specified horizontal cable; UL 1863 listed.
1. Performance: 500 mating cycles.
2. Voice and Data Jacks: 8-position modular jack, color-coded for both T568A and T568B
wiring configurations.
3. Product(s): Panduit MiniCom.
2.5 COMMUNICATIONS OUTLETS
A. Outlet Boxes: Comply with Section 26 0533.16.
1. Provide depth as required to accommodate cable manufacturer's recommended
minimum conductor bend radius.
2. Minimum Size, Unless Otherwise Indicated:
a. Data or Combination Voice/Data Outlets: 4 inch square by 2-1/8 inch deep (100
by 54 mm) trade size.
B. Wall Plates:
1. Comply with system design standards and UL 514C.
2. Accepts modular jacks/inserts.
3. Capacity:
a. Data or Combination Voice/Data Outlets: 6 ports.
2.6 IDENTIFICATION PRODUCTS
A. Comply with TIA-606.
B. Comply with TIA-606-B.
PART 3 EXECUTION
3.1 INSTALLATION - GENERAL
A. Comply with latest editions and addenda of TIA-568 (SET) (cabling), TIA-569 (pathways),
TIA-607 (grounding and bonding), NECA/BICSI 568, NFPA 70, and SYSTEM DESIGN as
specified in PART 2.
B. Comply with Communication Service Provider requirements.
C. Grounding and Bonding: Perform in accordance with TIA-607-C and NFPA 70.
D. The contractor will identify and protect cable runs that are pass-through to other areas of the
building and not associated with the active work zone.
E. The Contractor shall be responsible for replacing any wiring that is inadvertently cut or damaged
by the contractor during construction.
F. Contractor will be responsible for removal of any CAT 5 or other discarded wiring being
replaced within construction area.
3.2 INSTALLATION OF PATHWAYS
A. Install pathways with the following minimum clearances:
a. Each new data drop will be labeled on the faceplate in accordance with the
building schema and match the corresponding label in the wiring closet.
3. Contractor will label each end of all new Ethernet drops using the building schema
provided by Owner.
a. Label will be near the terminated end of the wire in the wiring closet.
b. Label will match the opposing end label.
c. Label AP runs at both ends.
E. Field-Installed Labels: Comply with TIA/EIA-606 using encoded identifiers.
1. Cables: Install color coded labels on both ends.
2. Outlets: Label each jack on its face plate as to its type and function, with a unique
numerical identifier.
3.4 TERMINATIONS
A. Terminate all new CAT 6 Ethernet wiring drops in the wiring closet.
1. Snap the minicom modules into the patch panel when provided by the Owner.
3.5 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
A. See Section 01 4000 - Quality Requirements, for additional requirements.
B. Comply with inspection and testing requirements of specified installation standards.
C. Visual Inspection:
1. Inspect cable jackets for certification markings.
2. Inspect cable terminations for color coded labels of proper type.
3. Inspect outlet plates and patch panels for complete labels.
D. Testing - Copper Cabling and Associated Equipment.
1. Category 5e and Above Links: Perform tests for wire map, length, attenuation, NEXT,
and propagation delay.
2. The Contractor will be responsible for testing and certifying every CAT 6 Ethernet drop
they install prior to acceptance by Owner.
E. Final Testing: After all work is complete, including installation of telecommunications outlets,
and telephone dial tone service is active, test each voice jack for dial tone.
