    1. Introduce Yourself
    I am Parth Purandare from Vadodara Gujarat. I am currently pursuing MBA from NMIMS
    Mumbai. I have done my BTech in Mechanical Engineering from GSFC University, Vadodara.
    During my course of study at GSFC University, it was mandatory for us to do internships after
    every semester. Hence, I have had opportunities to do internships at large scale companies like
    IOCL and GSFC. This has given me a close exposure to the kind of efficient management
    required to run such large industrial units smoothly. It is there that I came across industrial
    management concepts such as Work and Time Study, Project Portfolio Management and Risk
    Management. I was also a part of a team involved in designing and manufacturing a race go-
    kart for a national level competition. All these experiences have helped me reaffirm the
    importance of team work, planning, empathy and efficient learning and articulating skills in
    life. I also developed a fairly good proficiency over English and improved my public speaking
    skills. Earlier I had the habit of speaking out my feelings for others without thinking about their
    emotions. In order to overcome it, I joined as a community educator in CVC- an NGO
    providing free and quality education to slum children and tracking their progress record.
    Initially it was tough for me to control my emotions when some student would not perform to
    my expectations. Gradually I started being more calm and tired not to scold them. Instead, I
    would calmly explain to them how learning was important for them to overcome their financial
    distress. I also started looking for innovative ways of making them understand the concepts.
    This change in attitude also helped me improve my inter-personal skills communication skills.
    Apart from academics I also have interest in politics, both national and international. I like to
    study the political affairs and form my opinions based on the facts and happenings involved. I
    am also a tennis enthusiast and an avid follower of the tennis great Roger Federer. Apart from
    his game and records, his humble nature is an inspiration for me.
    As a mechanical engineer, it is my long-term goal to own an automobile parts manufacturing
    company. But before starting my own venture, it is very necessary to have an experience of
    managing a task successfully. Hence, I wish to work in an organisation on a product/marketing
    management profile for at least 6 years. This will enable me to understand the role of various
    facets of management in making a product commercially successful.

    2. Why MBA?
    While pursuing BTech in Mechanical Engineering from GSFC University, Vadodara, I took
    up many new courses like Energy Management Systems & Total Quality Management. I also
    studied the basic concepts of Industrial Management like Work &Time Study, Production
    Planning & Control, Project Portfolio Management and Risk Management as a part of my
    under-graduate curriculum. I was also involved in a team participating in a Go-Karting race,
    where I was in charge of market survey, project planning and preparing DFMEA, DVP and
    Design Report. These courses and tasks exposed me to various facets of management, although
    primitive. My engineering project was also focussed on increasing the productivity of a
    manufacturing company through work measurement and Time Study, and developing a Vendor
    Rating System. I want to do an MBA to gain deeper knowledge of these aspects of
    management. It will also expose me to real business problems through case studies, projects
    and internships.

    4. Short term and long-term Goals


    As a mechanical engineer, it is my long-term goal to own an automobile parts manufacturing
    company. I was a part of Team Brahmastra of my university, the only team from Gujarat
    participating in Indian Karting Race (IKR), involved in designing, analysing, and fabricating a
    Go-Kart to be driven in the final round of the event to be held in February 2019. I am involved
    in market survey, project planning and documentation of the tasks performed by our team such
    as DFMEA, DVP, Design Report. This experience has made me aware of various theories and
    mechanisms of automobiles such as acceleration, steering, braking, chassis, and transmission.
    It has also exposed me to the various facets of project management, although very primitive.
    But before starting my own venture, it is very necessary to have an experience of managing a
    task successfully. Hence, I wish to work in an organisation on a product/marketing
    management profile for at least 6 years. This will enable me to understand the role of various
    facets of management in making a product commercially successful.
    5. Strengths and weaknesses
    Strengths:
    i. Quick comprehension and learning ability
    ii. Good English Language proficiency and public speaking skills.
    iii. Good General Awareness
    Weaknesses:
    i. I speak out my feelings for others without thinking about their emotions.
    ii. I tend to lose concentration during long sitting hours.
    6. Mention situations where you used these strengths
    This incident occurred during the 5th semester of my undergraduate programme. 10 days before
    my end-semester examinations, I was diagnosed with food poisoning. My health was so weak
    that I was bed-ridden for an entire week. As a result, it was very difficult for me to prepare for
    the examinations.
    But I found a way out to study. I prepared my own voice recordings of the notes of the subject
    of the first examination. Every day I used to hear those recordings in bed and read e-books
    from my cell phone. Given my quick learning skills, I was able to revise all the concepts within
    2 days. And my English proficiency came to my rescue on the day of the examination. Although
    I had not read the text book, I was able to articulate the concepts quite clearly in the exams.
    This way I prepared for the examination and secured a decent score of 70 marks out of 100.
    7. Mention what approaches you took to overcome your weaknesses
    In order to improve on the weakness of not thinking about others’ emotions, I joined an NGO
    called CVC. There I was involved in teaching children living in slums. Initially I found it
    difficult to control my emotions when my students didn’t understand the concepts. I would
    reprimand them very harshly and also would punish them occasionally. This often led to the
    children breaking down badly and they complained about the same to the NGO coordinator.
    At that moment, I realised that it was imperative for me to change my attitude. I started by
    trying not to scold my students. Instead, I would calmly explain to them how learning was
    important for them to overcome their financial distress. I also started looking for innovative
    ways of making them understand the concepts. This change in attitude also helped me improve
    my inter-personal skills while communicating with my peers, relatives and elders.
    In order to improve my concentration, I usually take a break of an hour after every 5 hours and
    listen to my favourite songs. It relieves me from the stresses and makes me rejuvenated for
    further work.
    8. Greatest Achievement
    The greatest achievement till date is qualifying for the finals of Indian Karting Race. The
    national level competition required designing and manufacturing a race go-kart. This involved
    various activities like designing, analysis of the design, Design Validation, DFMEA, and
    fabrication. Apart from these, certain management concepts such as project planning, work
    breakdown, and budgeting & accounting were also involved. It required great coordination,
    team work and commitment to make the project successful. Our team even used to work
    overnight to complete the tasks required for various rounds of the competition. And the results
    showed. We were at AIR-2 till the final round. Also, we were among the only 5 teams who
    were able to complete the entire race without a breakdown.
    9. Why should we hire you?
    • I have done marketing internship at a giant chemicals company, wherein I had analysed
    Digital Marketing in chemicals industry and proposed New Digital marketing
    Approaches for GSFC-IP. This has exposed me to various facets of new age marketing,
    although primitive.
    • Coming from a middle-class family, hard work and dedication are the basic ethos of
    my life. Thus, if given a chance I would give me best to adapt with the work culture
    and work hard to fulfil the expectations of the organisation.
    10. Why should we not hire you?
    Being a fresher, I don’t possess the experience and skills required for the work profile
    mentioned. So, it would take some time for me to acclimatize with the work culture and ethics
    of the organisation. Hence, the organisation might not consider my candidature for the job.
    11. Hobbies/interests:
    Singing: Pursued Hindustani classical for 3 years. Also participated in various events and
    competitions. But singing is a thing that I like to keep it to myself. I have a habit of singing my
    favourite songs for an hour every day. It is a stress reliever to me rather than a bread earner.
    12. Do you believe that only an MBA can do managerial/administrative work? Are
    engineers not capable enough to do it?
    There are plenty of examples of highly successful business leaders like Mr A. M. Naik of L&T
    who don’t have an MBA degree. But there are people who need some guidance in order to
    channelize their talent and skills in a way that adds value to the company. Here is where an
    MBA helps. An MBA provides you an understanding of every aspect of an establishment
    which is helpful since the complexity of your work grows as you elevate up the corporate
    ladder. It gives us a comprehensive understanding of the different departments that a company
    has to cope with.
    13. Sell Yourself
    • I am Parth Purandare, an intelligent, smart and dynamic young man, looking for an
    opportunity to learn and grow in a working environment, while adding value to the
    organisation.
    • Having done a marketing internship, I possess the primitive knowledge of the
    current marketing strategies and practices, which would bring to the table a strong
    foundation to build upon.
    • Being a mechanical engineer, I have successfully handled challenges of time
    crunches and multitasking from a very young age. This had made me a person who
    does not easily break down in adversities.
    • Also, being a fresher, I bring to the forefront a blank slate, ready to be written and
    interpreted as per the demands of the work in hand. I don’t carry the baggage of
    experienced people that might make them averse to change and diversity.
