Activity 2. Essay Answer briefly the given questions by supplying only what is
asked.

1. Name five elements that are diatomic.

- Five Elements that are diatomic: Hydrogen (H2), Nitrogen (N2), Oxygen (O2), Fluorine (F2),
Chlorine (Cl2)
2. Somebody asks you, “is chlorine an element or a molecule?” What would be the best answer?
- Chlorine is a chemical component with symbol Cl and atomic number 17. A compound
comprises of particles or particles of at least two unique components in positive extents joined by
chemical bonds into an atom. Because Cl2 consists of only one form of molecule (2 chlorine) it is an
element not am atom.
3. When an atom loses an electron, it becomes an ion. What is an ion with a positive charge called?
- Positively charged ions are called cations
4. When an atom gains an electron, it becomes an ion. What is an ion with a negative charge called?
- Negatively charged ions are also called anions.
5. (2 pts) How many atoms are in one molecule of (NH4)3PO4? _15___
6. (2 pts) How many atoms are in one “formula unit” of Al2(SO4)3? _12___
7. What is hydrate? Discuss its properties and activities.
- Hydrate, any water-containing compound in the form of H2O molecules, usually, not always
though, with a particular water content by weight. The best-established hydrates are crystalline solids
that lose their basic structures after the removal of bound water. For a compound to be a genuine
hydrate, it needs to show all properties of genuine hydrates, including the development of water after
warming, dissolvability of its anhydrous buildup in water, and reversibility in the shade of the buildup
back to the shade of the hydrate when broken down in the water. Hydrates are gypsum (regularly used
for wallboard, concrete and plaster construction in Paris), Borax (used in a wide variety of restoration,
washing and clothing).
Activity 3. Describe the characteristics of the following elements by
assigning and showing the ionic charge, number of subatomic particles (p +,
n0, e-) and electronic configuration. Describe their location in the periodic
table (highest energy level, highest sub-shell)
