ABSTRACT:
The water bodies across the world are facing the existential crises. The plastic solid waste from a major inhabit or of natural
flow of water. The human settlements are regularly dumping off the garbage and refuse to the water bodies. This is a major
environmental hazard and causes a degradation of water bodies and affects the overall food chain. Out of the garbage plastic
occupies a major chunk of solid waste dumped with by 2020. The plastic staying at ocean break down into smaller granule
which circulate all over the water bodies goes into the gills of fishes which leads to genetic disorder and leading to death and
also comes to water supply connection which comes directly to our kitchen affecting all of us. The granule of plastic causes
cancer if it goes to fetus of pregnant women it can cause abnormality of child and much more.
The bin situated at the water surface and pumped the water at the surface then to water again. The water get sucked into the bin
and bringing all the floating debris into bin. Water pumped through the bottom of the bin living debris inside which get raped in
jute filter. Due to the strategic positioning, the wind and the currents bring the debris directly to the bin.
1.INTRODUCTION:
The title “project kumbhkaran “ is so called because we all know that the kumbhkaran is known for eating
endlessly, our project also do the same job of eating endlessly debris from the water body’s.
The Indian government has lunched so many project regarding ocean and river cleaning projects such as
Clean Ganga Project worth of Rs7000 crore are spent and still counting, Yamuna Clean-up project worth of
Rs6000 crore are spent and the outcomes we all know that. At present 3 trillions of tons plastic are dumped
in the water bodies and every person generating 54kg of plastic every year, the data given by the United
Nations World Water Development.
Our project aims on collecting the debris from the water bodies like Plastic bottles, Polythene bags, Aerosol
cans, Garlands, Paint cans etc. which harm the aquatic ecological system.
2. LITERATURE SURVEY:
Sea bin is designed to keep the ocean clean. Australian surfer Pete Ceglinski and his friend quit their job and
designed the sea bin. The sea bin is a floating debris interception device designed to be installed in the water
of marinas, ports and any other water body with a calm environment and service available. The sea bin
moves up and down with the range of tide collecting all floating debris. Water is sucked in from the surface
and pass through a catch bag inside the sea bin, with a submersible water pump which displace the water out
from the bin. The water is then pumped back into the marine leaving litter and debris trapped in the catch
bag. The catch bag can hold up to 20kgs (kilo grams) of debris and it is advised to be checked twice a day in
dense polluted area where debris are present in the water body in huge amount. Filter can be emptied as
needed there is no strict time table to change the filter twice it does not show any adverse effect if filter is
kept in water for long time without unchanged only it required o change when it is filled or going to full. The
sea bin is installed “Debris problem area” in the marina on floating dock the strategic positioning enables the
wind and the current to push the debris directly to the sea bin. The cost of one unit is 3300 euro which is 2,
65,955.42 Rs (rupees) in India.
(ii) Trash skimmer is widely used machine in India for cleaning rivers, nut due to the big size it does not go
near the shore whir maximum debris get collected. The trash cats are the most durable floating debris removal
systems in the world. The trash cat trash skimmer vessel system can be used for removing floating debris
from rivers, reservoirs, canals, ports and other waterways. The skimmer can easily remove the following man

made and organic floating debris, logs, tires, shopping carts, refrigerators, bowling balls and plastics. It
removes billion of tones of debris from all over the world.
(iii) Manual cleaning through boats is also used to clean the water bodies which require man power and can
be less efficient.
(vi)Burning no-site method burns the oil on the sites where the spillage has occurred. The burninghasto be
done quite promptly before the oil spill can spread to a large area. But the most important disadvantage of
such an on-site burning is that the exhaust that is released contains toxic particles that can cause damage to
the ocean air in addition to the marine life form
3. PROPOSED SYSTEM:
The collector bin is the main frame which holds the main filter and as basin it interacts whole structure. The
bin consists of the Tapering cylinder of height 48cm and radius of 28cm.One end of the tapering cylinder is
sealed of f to a small outlet. The use of waste water we used is eco friendly when it is submersed in water
and we are playing our role in reducing plastic from environment.
The jute collector acts a filter cum collection bag which filters out the water and traps the solid waste
plastics. The jute being strong and recyclable possesses no harm. When the jute bag is submersed into the
water the pores get expanded and make minimum space to pass any impurity to pass through it. The jute is
also helpful to collect the oil content from the water.

The jute filter is used because it is the most important vegetable fiber after cotton, in terms of usage, global
consumption, production and availability. The property ofjute fiber includes high tensile strength, low
extensibility and ensures better durability of fiber. Therefore, jute is very suitable for making filter. Due to
the antistatic properties, as well as having low thermal conductivity when it submersed in the water it does
not torn and stay for long period of time. The person who cleans the bag after removing does not fell skin
irritation because of insulating properties.
A cloth sheet with floating mouth is used to make the mouth to water surface, this makes the bin fixed at a
level whereas the level of mouth is aligned with water surface .according to the water level it will adjust and
the water will come to the collector in appropriate manner without damaging to the jute filter. The upper
section is made up of hard plastic which will float on the surface of water. The cloth used is resins which is
very strong and can hold the strong current of water.

To draw the water in a whole suction aperture is developed. The mouth of collector is fixed to the motor by
means of a pipe, the water pump in turn placed in the shore. The water which comes along with the debris get
purified in jute filter and the water pumped out and then thrown into the water body. The pump used here is
0.5hp (horse power) motor which can lift the water from 10-8 miters.
3.5 STAND:
A non rusting stand is placed which in turn is placed in underwater bed this provides support and stability.
There are two types of stand we can use for extreme to normal water flow
The water current in the sea/river is high and need strong stand to hold the kumbhkaran up right. U
shape collector is made up of plastic so it will experience buoyancy from the water body to overcome
that we designed the stand with four rings like structure woven around the U shape collector. The rings
are inter connected with straight rods which will give strength to the ring. The frame is then connecter
with rod according to the height of the shore in which the kumbhkaran is installed.

The flow of the lake / pond depends upon the wind speed and geographical condition. If the area is hilly
region then the stream of water is more and wind speed is also high to deal with that kind of situation we
can use same frame which we used in sea system. Mostly lake water is still water so we won’t require
that much heavy and costly stand as cost effectiveness is our one of the main goal so we use only two
rings instead of four rings which will connect to the rod and keep the collector stand still in water.

4. BLOCK DIAGRAM:
Water is sucked in from the surface and passes through the jute filter inside the U shape collector, with
water pump placed at the surface is connected with pipe from the bottom capable of displacing 30 Lph
(liter per hour) plugged directly into 220 V outlets. The water is then pumped back into the marina
leaving all the debris trapped inside the jute bag.
STRATEGIC POSITIONING:
As shown in the figure the positioning of kumbhkaranis situated at the corner of the ports where
usually debris get collected. We can see the L shape design is made for the flow of water near the
corner in one direction only because it will help to take out the debris at the corner during any type
of wind flow. Yellow dot shows the kumbhkaran positing. This system is very useful near Holy
River during festivals because 1000tons of garlands and plastic materials are thrown during these
days to reduce that we can use project kumbhkaran.

5.PROJECT RESULT:
The resultant model is shown in the above figure the project kumbhkaran is the boon to fight from the water
pollution increasing more faster than the world’s population. Our project works in all the possible condition
either in sea or lake or in river. The holding stand only changes according to the condition. first it get
installed in water body and then the “project kumbhkaran” starts its work by its own no need of human to
monitor the work. The water along with the debris comes into the bin weir jute filter trap the debris and
allows the water to go to the pump where it again sent back to the water body without damaging the
environment.
6. CONCLUSION:
Theproject kumbhkaran cost is 3000RS which is negligible in forint of cost of one unit of sea bin which is
about 2, 65,955.42 Rs. We have reduced the cost by 86.65% costs which is the main benefit of this project.
“Project Kumbhkaran” isvery effective method to remove the solid waste from the water bodies. Material
used in the devise is environmental friendly and almost 90% of the body is made from sustainable material.
The installation and operation of the project is very easy, it does not required any technical knowledge to run
the machine. The project kumbhkaran can filter debris like poly bag, plastic bottle, oil, garlands, empty
aerosol cans and paint cans.It can work 24*7 without having any trouble. In other system of cleaning water
bodies is done by heavy machine which require man power and the person should go into the water and do
the job which sometimes cause droning of people during accident but in the proposed system there is no need
to enter into the water bodies, cleaning can be done by single person that too from the surface through handle
provided in the jute filter.
