October 4 2019 it was a cloudy day however we still continue our plans on going to the National
Museum of the Philippines as a project for our Art Appreciation subject then when I have finally
stepped my foot to the National Museum of Fine Arts. A
glimpse of past has welcomed me. As a Filipino painter it
is always an honour to see the artworks of our fellow
countrymen. As I gaze the painting “Spoliarium” of our
great painter Juan Luna, I’ve had a goose bumps because
of the dark past of our history has seem to be alive on his
painting.
As I go through this museum I have observed that
there are different kind of arts here like sculptures, gothic
style post, Modernism painting etc. that has been made by
our fellow Filipinos through our history. Admittedly, what I really enjoyed looking at were the abstract
paintings and ‘modern’ artworks. Was ecstatic to see works of Ben Cab (yep, the same Ben Cab of
BenCab Museum in Baguio, which is a must-visit as well!), Fernando Amorsolo (hailed as a National
Artist), and Guillermo Tolentino (notably sculpted The Oblation .The bust and sculptures is truly
mesmerizing by the complex folds on the
meticulously crafted figures that represented the
person so well, as if our late presidents magically
came to life as we stood a foot away from them.
I really find the National Museum is very
educational. The thought of how fascinating the
Filipino culture can be has never runs in my mind
until I have visited the hints of our history in this
museum. It was also intriguing how colonization
could have a strong impact and how it influenced
our culture leading to its diversity. Nevertheless all
through out of cultural changes, still it is something
we can be proud and show to the world. An art that is outstanding and enticing evidence of our past.
There are lot of things that I’ve seen which are important to the existence of our country shown
in the National Museum of Natural History. With the huge chunk that National Museum occupies along
the stretch of Taft Avenue, it’s hard not to notice such
landmark, crisp white paint and all. A little reminder though—
the actual entrance of the museum isn’t on Taft Avenue, so a
little bit of walking is still needed to reach the place. When
facing the landmark on Taft, walk left until the stoplight, and
turn right to Finance Road. Fret not, sweat—maybe.

As we enter the National museum of Natural History

our tiredness fades because it does an excellent job at
presenting such a diversity of information relating to the
natural world. The building featured the centerpiece “The Tree
of Life”. The architecture is really impressive as it is reflective
of the rich natural resources of the country. Each floor gives a
sophisticated look with its interactive exhibits. It features
thousands of specimens, samples, and skeletal remains
including the remains of the largest crocodile captive, Lolong.
From such realistic creations of dinosaurs to such wondrous
jewels as the Hope Diamond, it is an intellectual and entertaining place that most anyone can enjoy.
Aside from displaying simply the information relevant to its related field, this museum takes it a step
beyond to convey even larger-scale phenomena. This museum provides a
great overview of the incredible diverse fauna, flora, and ecology of the
Philippine Archipelago

This visit enriches our soul, knowledge and insights about our
country’s historical heritage. It is such a wonderful experience to have
finally seen what I only seen in the books in my younger years and feel the
presence of our history. Thankfully, we are lucky to visit the museum this
October because it is free on this whole month it helps us save money
though. Through this world class museum, we Filipino, will be more proud
of the beauty of Philippines and appreciate the richness of our biodiversity.
