Introductio
n
 What is Distributed Generation (DG)?
 Generateenergy power based on site
consumption
 Apply concept independency – avoid loss in cost,
difficulty and inefficiency
 Direct to user
 Example :- PV, Mini Hydro, Biomass, Biogas,
Municipal solid waste, Wind and Geothermal
 Supply 10MW or less
Introductio
n
 Hybrid Renewable Energy System
(HRES)
 Combination of different energy system
 Example:- solar and diesel generator
Research Background
 First wind farm in Malaysia – Pulau Terumbu Layang-
Layang, Sabah
 First solar/wind turbine hybrid system – Pulau
Perhentian, Terengganu
 Solar/diesel hybrid system - Kalabakan, Sabah
Problem Statement
 Problem?
 Is enough power generation to fulfil the power demand?
 Can hybrid renewable generation reliable to supply load profile?
 Is selected area give a best choosing of renewable energy for
make hybrid generation system?
 Objective?
 To gain feasibility study of HRES for island electrification
 To design and modelling HRES for island area
 To simulate the design in low cost operation
 To aim the best hybrid configuration at accepted level of
electrification
Literature Review of Papers/Journals
Title Conclusion
1. A significant scheme of distributed • The wind energy is chosen to be the
generation system using wind-solar- priority and the solar energy is the
diesel applying in island (Jie Shu, supplement.
Xianyong Zhang, YuLiang Shen) • This hybrid power supply system
greatly reduces the cost of electricity.
• Harmless to the environment and
provides the power support for the
tourist industry and economic
development of the sea island.
• The whole system runs effectively
2. Modelling and Cost Analysis of Hybrid • Amount of non-renewable energy
Energy System for St. Martin Island sources is decreasing day by day.
Using HOMER • Not feasible to use only diesel as a
(Nasif Mahmud, Asif Hassan, Md source of energy generation
Shamiur Rahman) nowadays.
• Hybrid energy generation system
can be feasible and optimized
solution.
• PV-diesel-wind-battery hybrid
generation system was found most
feasible and optimized.
1. Title Conclusion
3. Optimal Planning of Off-Grid Solar- • In the coastal area alternate energy
Wind-Tidal Hybrid Energy System for sources are needed to meet up the
Sandwip Island of Bangladesh demand.
(Nishat Anjum Khan, Amit Kumar Sikder, • Renewable energy resources like
Shammya Shananda Saha) solar, wind, tidal etc. can be a
potential solution.
• A hybrid power system including
solar, wind and tidal energy is
feasible and cost effective.
• The proposed system includes diesel
generator which increases the
reliability of the system.
• According to the simulation results
the projected hybrid system is
economically feasible as
decentralized or grid interactive
system.
• Proposed system can be an effective
solution of energy crisis in the
Sandwip island of Bangladesh.
Methodology
• Using accurate load from the label
Demand of the power rating on the
appliances to compute the power
Assessm rating
• Multiply the calculated rate and
ent expected number of hours per day
and sum it all up

Resourc
e • Can be done by calculating
resources using meteorological
Assesme data available – solar and wind

nt
Fulfilled by • Combining one or more
Hybrid renewable energy sources with
Renewable conventional energy source.
Energy • Decided to use generator
HRES.
System.
• Optimization and design the
HRES model in HOMER (Hybrid
Simulation Optimization of Multiple Energy
Resources) software.

Conclusion

 For final year project 2 I need to:

 Calculate and finalize all the component (rating
and type of the solar panel, wind turbine,
inverter, and storage from the expected load
demand)
 Tomake sure need to be use to implement in the
HOMER Software is ready
