    To begin with, Robot Dreams is a book about a Robot named Elvex who sees himself as a

    person, and the other robots. He wants them to be treated as humans as well. He wishes them to be
    treated equally. Comparing this to Martin Luther King Jr., he also wants all African Americans to be
    treated equally as Whites. He feels that skin color shouldn’t determine a person’s level in the world.
    These two situations are very similar to each other. Both of them want equality. Both of them are
    basically being forced of what they have to do. They don’t have a freedom of choice.

    Elvex and the robots are expected to do all the work. They aren’t bowed down, and they don’t
    get weary. Also, robots in the story were meant to do work for humans, and obey their every rule. To
    compare, all African Americans were treated the same. Whites didn’t really consider them just like
    humans. They made them do work, and everyone was more harsh on them. African Americans got
    everything lower than what white people got. They had no respect, but they had to give much respect to
    the white people around them, Or else they got in big trouble.

    In Robot dreams there are 3 laws. The first law is “A robot may not injure a human being, or,
    through, inaction allow a human being to come in harm.” The second law is, “A robot must obey orders
    given it by human beings except when such orders would conflict with the first law.” Lastly the third law
    is,” A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the first or
    second law.” This is showing how robots don’t really have a choice of what they want to do. They all
    have to obey the rules of what the humans tell them to do. All of the robots have to think about human
    safety first then about themselves. This is why Elvex wants the equality between humans and robots. He
    sees no difference between the two. In the real life situation, African Americans were also forced to
    follow the rules they were told. If they didn’t obey, they would get punished in harmful ways.

    Also, in robot dreams human beings are scared that robots might take over because of Elvex’s
    dream. In his dream there was only one law and it stated, “A robot must protect its own existence.” In
    the story Dr. Calvin was scared that robots might take over from the story of his dream. To explain, Elvex
    was a man and said to let his people go which were the robots. So she shot him because she got scared
    her power would go lower than the robots. In contrast, in the real life situation White people weren’t
    afraid of their power being taken over. They just didn’t want African Americans getting to equality
    because of their colored skin. They thought of them as a very low class that they were never afraid of
    their power going up.

    To conclude, both in the story and the real world situation were focused on equality. They
    wanted to be treated the same as everyone else. Both groups didn’t see themselves any different. They
    never got the same level of respect. They were forced to do things by the “upper class”. The upper class
    didn’t really think they had the same feelings that they did. To say, equality never came into their minds.
