I. Topic & General Goal English: The students will learn about subordinating conjunctions
II. Reference to PA or CC.1.4.4.F Demonstrate a grade-appropriate command of the
Common Core conventions of standard English grammar, usage, capitalization,
Standards punctuation, and spelling.
E04.D.1.2.3 Use a comma before a coordinating conjunction in a
compound sentence.

III. Lesson Objectives TSWBAT identify a subordinating conjunction when given in


isolation.
TSWBAT identify a subordinating conjunction when given in a
sentence.
TSWBAT recall the AAAWWUBBIS acronym for subordinating
conjunctions.
IV. Materials - AAAWWUBBIS Student Sheets

V. A. Introduction Mrs. Hogue’s Class: "Good Morning Class! Today, we are going
to be learning about subordinating conjunctions! We will be
learning about AAAWWUBBIS and interacting with our new
topic, subordinating conjunctions this week.”
Mrs. McCalla’s Class: "Good Afternoon Class! Today, we are
going to be learning about subordinating conjunctions! We will
be learning about AAAWWUBBIS and interacting with our new
topic, subordinating conjunctions this week.”
B. Procedures Mrs. Hogue’s Class and Mrs. McCalla’s Class:
1. The teacher will introduce the topic, subordinating
conjunctions, while distributing a copy of the
AAAWWUBBIS Student Sheet to each student.
2. The teacher will orally go over the AAAWWUBBIS
Student Sheet and read aloud each letter and
corresponding word.
3. The teacher will begin the Subordinating Conjunction
PowerPoint on the SmartBoard.
4. The teacher will go through slide by slide and explain
when to use each letter of the AAAWWUBBIS
subordinating conjunctions in a sentence.
5. After the PowerPoint is concluded, the teacher will
distribute Subordinating Conjunctions Practice Page 1
to each student.
6. The teacher will read through the definition and examples
at the top of the practice page.
7. The teacher will go through and complete #1-3 with the
class aloud.
8. The students will continue the remaining questions
independently on the practice page. The teacher will
reconvene and review the answers.
9. The teacher will read through the AAAWWUBBIS
Student Sheet and review the principles of Subordinating
Conjunctions.
C. Differentiation Content: During this English lesson, I will be working with
students independently as needed during the activity portions.
Process: During this English lesson, the struggling students can
focus on the identification of subordinating conjunctions.
Products: During the subordinating conjunction practice
worksheet, the students utilize their AAAWWUBBIS Student
Sheet as a reference tool for their worksheet. Additionally, the
students can utilize their AAAWWUBBIS Student Sheet to
identify the subordinating conjunctions in the given sentences
and keep it as a study tool.
Learning Environment: For the duration of this English lesson,
the students will be working in an inclusion classroom. The
classroom is equipped with spacious seating, minimal noise, and
free range to move as needed in a discrete manner to reduce
distractions and disruptions.
D. Closure To conclude this lesson, the teacher will review subordinating
conjunctions concepts with the students. Lastly, the teacher will
yield any questions and answer them accordingly.
VI. Assessment Observation of Student’s Work
- Accuracy in responses during subordinating conjunction
practice sheet
- Ability to accurately identify the subordinating
conjunctions in a sentence or in isolation
VII. Modifications and/or Extra Time: For students who need extra time to understand or
Accommodations achieve the task, then they will get extra time to complete their
activities.
Movement: For students who have difficulty with sitting still for
a prolonged period, this activity is portioned into segments
allowing the students to move around frequently while still
receiving full benefit from the lesson.
Engagement: For students who have difficulty engaging with
their peers during discussion, their participation could be done in
a one-to-one with an aide or with a partner/small group.
