     Weird News Stories: A Murder Suicide

    In 1992, a man __________ (jump) off the roof of a 26-storey high-rise apartment building
    in Chicago. As he _________ (fall) past the fourteenth floor, a gunshot from one of the
    apartments caught him in the head and __________ (kill) him instantly. Police investigating
    the shooting had an interesting problem: was the crime suicide or murder? It wasn’t easy to
    decide. There were a lot of complications.

    The first was that, unknown to the man, a firm of window cleaners __________ (set up)
    safety netting at the level of the twelfth floor. This netting was designed to catch anybody
    who ___________ (fall) from a ledge while cleaning the windows. However, it was wide
    enough to catch anyone falling from the roof so the man would not have died from the fall.
    Since he did die from the gunshot wound, it looked as if the case __________ (must/be)
    murder. The question was who did it?

    When the police investigated, they found that the apartment from which the gunshot
