1. INTRODUCTION

Scope of this document is to provide a guideline for the execution of the 7” liner inflow
(negative) and positive tests on KL-22 the well, with specific reference to the utilization of a
DLT Schlumberger downhole assembly. Also, an example concerning sampling of the
pressure / time data points needed for generating a Horner’s Plot is are included in this
document.

2. SCOPE OF WORK

The scopeobjective of the flow tests is to ascertain the hydraulic integrity of the 7” liner and
relevant overlap in the 9-5/8” casing in an overbalance and an underbalance differential
pressure condition.
Required pressures will be obtained by:
 running in the hole an DLT packer, complete with a circulating valve and a safety
joint above the top of liner (20-30 m above TOL);
 setting the DLT packer and test the system integrity;
 pressurising the system below the DLT packer through the DP string and hold on
the pressure for 15 minutes;
 bleeding off the system pressures and un-setting the DLT packer;
 displacing DP to water (about 95% by length, as required for obtaining the desired
differential pressure – see step # 3 below). Pay attention not to over-displace the
DP capacity (contaminating the mud in the annulus);
 setting the packer, by using the top drive;
 bleeding off DP pressure down to the required final DP pressure;
 recording (similarly to a pressure build-up) the DP pressure values after given
intervals of time, according to the Horner’s Plot Method used by GRN Reggane, as
specified by the attached Example Excel Calculation Sheet (automatically
generating the Horner’s Plot).

3. WELL DATA AND PRELIMINARY CALCULATIONS

Top of liner @: 2091m MD = 2091m TVD

Approximate packer setting depth: 2060m MD = 2060m TVD
Water in DP @: 0.95 x Packer Depth = 1957m MD = 1957m TVD
Mud Weight = 1.35 sg (confirm before job)
Water Weight = 1.0 sg
Initial DP Pressure (at surface after displacement):
0.1 x 1957 x (1.35 - 1) = 68.5 kg/cm2 = 67.1 bar = 975 psi
Final DP Pressure (at surface after bleed off): 275 psi
Total under-balance differential pressure (down hole): 700 psi

6 Required 5” Drill Pipe KCA

5. DLT STRING RUNNING INSTRUCTIONS

REMARK: ALL OPERATIONS TO BE PERFORMED WITH TOP DRIVE, WITHOUT SIDE-

ENTRY-SUB AND CHIKSAN LINES ON RIG FLOOR.

5.1 ASSEMBLING THE TOOL

1. Make up tools and tighten all threads. Torque to 800ft/lbs all service breaks and use rig
specifications for 4 ½ IF connections. Be aware of trapped or residual torque when
applying torque to the tools. Make sure the area is clear of nonessential personnel.
Sudden release of trapped or residual torque can cause damage to equipment and
possible injury to personnel.
2. Verify that the mechanical slips of DLT packer are free (hang free the tool and work the
drag block up and down several times).
3. Run the DLT Packer in conjunction with D & L V-III unloader.
4. Slowly RIH. Run DLT packer assembly very carefully through BOP’s and surface
equipment.

5.2 RUN IN HOLE

5. When making up the work string, avoid pipe rotation and slippage of the backups. The
unloader should remain open when RIH.
6. RIH on 5” Drill Pipe to the packer setting depth ≈2060m MD.
7. Install in the string a TIW valve (open) above rig floor.
8. Work the string up and down several times. Record up and down hook weights.
9. Pressure test pump and line against closed TIW valve to 300 psi for 10 min and 5000
psi for 10 min. Bleed off pressure and open TIW valve.

5.3 SET AND TEST THE PACKER

10. Pick up packer to the desired setting depth 2060m MD. Flag drill pipe on rig floor
reference point.
11. Pick up work string and rotate ¼ turn to the right at the packer, as per tool operator
instructions. Slack off weight on the packer (min. 25,000 lbs) to set the slips and
compress the packing elements as per tool operator’s instructions. Release the torque
after slacking off 6ft to allow the unloader to close and lock. The set down weight must
remain on the packer throughout the inflow test operation.
12. Close annular BOP and with rig pumps pressure up annulus to 1000 psi. Observe
annular pressure and check for any increase of DP pressure for 10 min in order to verify
packer and circulating valve sealing integrity.

5.4 POSITIVE TEST

13. A positive test needs to be conducted in order to verify that the Liner Hanger Top
Packer will hold pressure during DST test operations. After testing system, pressurise
the system below the packer to the maximum anticipated pressure that will be reached
during the DST operations (around 2400psi). Nevertheless, the Liner must be pressure
tested in accordance to the Production CSG – previously tested at 4,000 psi.
A stable pressure of 4000 psi heold for 15 minutes will represent a good positive test.

5.5 UNSET THE PACKER

14. Bleed off the DP pressure to zero.
15. Bleed off annular pressure to zero.
16. Open annular BOP.
17. Rotate the work string ¼ turn to the right and pick up on the work string to open the D&L
V-III Unloader. Allow time for the tubing and casing pressure to equalize. Continue
upward movement of the work string to relax the packing elements, un-set the slips and
automatically release the packer. The DLT could now be moved and reset.
18. Lower the string to the packer setting depth ≈2060m MD (same as in step # 6 above).

5.6 DISPLACE DP STRING TO WATER

19. Displace DP to water down to about 1957m MD = 1957m TVD
20. DP pressure at surface should read about 975 psi. Close TIW valve.

5.7 SET THE PACKER

21. Work the string up and down several times. Record up and down hook weights.
22. Pick up packer to the desired setting depth 2060m MD. The flag on drill pipe on rig floor
reference point must be +/- equal as in step # 10 above.
24. Close annular BOP and with rig pumps pressure up annulus to 500 psi.

5.8 BLEED OFF DP PRESSURE

Remarks:
Record times and volumes of the water flowed back in each step (necessary for calculation
of T0 in the Horner’s Plot).
From this point on and for the full duration of the inflow test, observe annular pressure in
order to verify packer and circulating valve sealing integrity. Avoid any further annular
pressure adjustment during the execution of the inflow test (string ballooning/ reverse
ballooning would affect the validity of the Horner’s plot interpretation).
25. Open the TIW valve and slowly bleed off 100 psi from DP’s. Observe DP and annular
pressure stability for 5 minutes to ascertain packer and circulating valve sealing integrity.
26. Continue bleeding off DP pressure in 100 psi steps until obtaining a DP residual
pressure equal to 275 psi

5.9 INFLOW TEST

27. Similarly to a build-up test and in compliance with the Horner’s Plot Method used by
GRN Reggane, record pressure and times according to the indication given in the
attached Example Excel Calculation Sheet “KL-22 TOL Inflow Test” (automatically
generating the Horner’s Plot). After collecting the first 5-6 data points, start evaluating
the pressure curve trend in real time and continue until a clean straight line can be
extrapolated (however, do not terminate the test before 2 hours, unless an evident
communication annulus - DP is detected).

5.10 EQUALIZE THE PRESSURE, UNSET THE PACKER, REVERSE OUT AND POOH
28. Pressure up DP to initial pressure 975 psi or little less (-100 psi) to balance annulus
hydrostatic pressure at packer depth.
29. Bleed off the annular pressure and open annular BOP.
30. Rotate the work string ¼ turn to the right and pick up on the work string to open the D&L
V-III Unloader. Allow time for the tubing and casing pressure to equalize. Continue
upward movement of the work string to relax the packing elements, un-set the slips and
automatically release the packer.
31. Confirm that circulation is established. Reverse circulate drill pipe back to WBM.
32. Do not work packer up and down. POOH without rotating the string.
