ways to form present perfect when writing referral letters are as follows:

Handy Tip
When using time markers such as ...for the past 20 years, ...for the last 3months, ...for the
next 3 months or .... for the previous 3 months always use the definite article "the" as it its
function is to specify a particular period of time.
