EXPERIMENT:

Synthesis of Chalcone by using acetophenone and benzaldehyde.


Required Chemicals:
 Acteopenone
 Benzaldehyde
 Ethanol
 Caustic Soda (NaOH)
 Distilled Water

Acetophenoe Bazaldehyde Chalcone

Procedure:
1. I added 0.01mole of acetophenone in 500ml round bottom flask.
2. Added a mixture of Ethanol and Water (7ml:3ml) 30 mL.
3. Added one pellet of NaOH/ KOH.
4. Added 0.01 mole of benzaldehyde.
5. Stirred the reaction mixture for 3hrs at room temperature.
6. The reaction progress was monitored by taking TLC after every hr.
7. After the completion of reaction, added 100ml of cold distilled water.
8. The precipitates formed were filter and washed with more amount of water.
9. Dry the crude product and the recrystallize by ethanol.
