400 METER RUNNING
The 400 meters, or 400-metre dash, is a
sprinting event in track and field
competitions.

It has been featured in the athletics


program at the Summer Olympics since 1896
for men and since 1964 for women.

On a standard outdoor running track, it is


one lap around the track.

RELAY RACE
4 × 100 METERS RELAY
The 4 × 100 meters relay or sprint relay is
an athletics track event run in lanes over
one lap of the track with four
runners completing 100 meters each.

The first runners must begin in the same


stagger as for the individual 400 m race.

A relay baton is carried by each runner.

There are four runners in each team
and three exchanges.
The receiver of the baton has an
acceleration distance of 10 meters
before the exchange zone, which is
20 meters long.
The baton must be exchanged within
the exchange zone, otherwise the
team is disqualified
