PRINCIPLES OF MIGRATION
John 5:1-16
1After this there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
2Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew,
Bethesda, having five porches.
3In these lay a great multitude of sick people, blind, lame, paralyzed, waiting for the
moving of the water.
4For an angel went down at a certain time into the pool and stirred up the water; then
whoever stepped in first, after the stirring of the water, was made well of whatever
disease he had.
5Now a certain man was there who had an infirmity thirty-eight years.
6When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition
a long time, He said to him, "Do you want to be made well?"
7The sick man answered Him, "Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the
water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me."
8Jesus said to him, "Rise, take up your bed and walk."
9And immediately the man was made well, took up his bed, and walked. And that day
was the Sabbath.
10The Jews therefore said to him who was cured, "It is the Sabbath; it is not lawful for
you to carry your bed."
11He answered them, "He who made me well said to me, 'Take up your bed and
walk.'"
12Then they asked him, "Who is the Man who said to you, 'Take up your bed and
walk'?"
13But the one who was healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had withdrawn, a
multitude being in that place.
14Afterward Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, "See, you have been
made well. Sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you."
15The man departed and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well.
16For this reason the Jews persecuted Jesus, and sought to kill Him, because He had
done these things on the Sabbath.(NKJ)
ANSWERS -LESSON 1(ABC)
1. Migration is moving from one location to another. Spiritual migration involves
movement to a spiritual position or location that is in the perfect will of God - a new
position or location that pleases God and attracts his favour.
2. Most Bible scholars agree that the feast celebrated was the Feast of the Passover.
3. House of Mercy
4. SYMBOLS:
4.1 BETHESDA (HOUSE OF MERCY) - HOUSE IS A PICTURE OF A
CHURCH.
1 Tim 3:15
but if I am delayed, I write so that you may know how you ought to conduct yourself in
the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the
truth.(NKJ)
Thus Bethel(house of God) is a picture of a church. Bethlehem, Bethsaida etc are all
pictures of churches with special characteristics derived from their names.

Copyright © Dr. S. Y Govender 2

Bethlehem - house of bread. This house majors on revelation.
Bethsaida - house of provision. This house majors on meeting felt needs.
4.2 POOL
This House has water. WATER is a picture of the Word of God.
Eph 5:26
that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word,(NKJ)

WATER AS A SYMBOL OF THE WORD OF GOD:

To leave Egypt the nation had to pass through the Red Sea. -
To leave the world (Egypt) you have to pass through the Word.
To leave the wilderness the nation had to pass through Jordan.
To leave the inaccuracies of the wilderness you have to pass through the
Word.
The triumph over the Moabites was due to the reflection of the sun on the
water.
(2 Kings 3:20-24)
The triumph over demons is through the Word.
The recurrent miscarriages were due to polluted water.(2 Kings 2:18,19)
When the Word of God is polluted, visions abort.
Moses survived on the water.
The Word will save you.
4.3 FIVE PORCHES
This is a picture of the five-fold ministry.(Eph.4)
OTHER PICTURES OF THE FIVE-FOLD MINISTRY:
THE HAND
IKing 18:44
Then it came to pass the seventh time, that he said, "There is a cloud, as small as
a man's hand, rising out of the sea!" So he said, "Go up, say to Ahab, 'Prepare
your chariot, and go down before the rain stops you.'"(NKJ)
Dan 5:5
In the same hour the fingers of a man's hand appeared and wrote opposite the
lampstand on the plaster of the wall of the king's palace; and the king saw the
part of the hand that wrote(NKJ)
THE 5 BARS
Exod 26:27
"five bars for the boards on the other side of the tabernacle, and five bars for the
boards of the side of the tabernacle, for the far side westward.(NKJ)
4.4 GREAT MULTITUDE(vs.3)
This is a picture of a mega church.
4.5 STIRRED UP THE WATER/MADE WELL OF WHATEVER DISEASE
(vs.4)
This is a picture of a church with manifestations.
4.6 SHEEP GATE
This is a picture of Jesus.
John 10:7

Copyright © Dr. S. Y Govender 3

Then Jesus said to them again, "Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the
sheep.(NKJ)
This church had Jesus. Anyone sitting in this church could see Jesus.
5. INACCURACY BECAUSE:-
5.1 "BY THE SHEEP GATE"
Now the Sheepgate is Jesus. This church was by Jesus, not in Jesus. The legitimate
scriptural position is that the believer be in Christ.
2 Cor 5:17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away;
behold, all things have become new.(NKJ)
1 Pet 5:14
Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace to you all who are in Christ Jesus.
Amen.(NKJ)
The "in Him" position denotes a genuine commitment to Christ.
5.2 POOL - STAGNANT WATER
Water is a picture of the Word of God. An accurate church has a RIVER (SPIRIT-
FILLED WORD), not a pool which is a picture of the Word without the Spirit.
2 Cor 3:6
who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of
the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.(NKJ)
5.3 IMPOTENT PEOPLE
This "mega church" was filled with the blind, lame and paralyzed - dysfunctional
believers. In fact, when the angel moved the blind man could not see it, the lame
man could see it but could not walk into it and the paralyzed man could not even
crawl into the water. The only person who could get in was someone that was well.
Thus this could more appropriately be called a house of torture.
If God were to move in this church, the blind man would not see the move of God,
the lame man would not walk into the move of God and the paralyzed man would
not even crawl into the move of God.
5.4 ANGELIC MANIFESTATION
This was an house of angelic manifestation, not HOLY GHOST manifestation.
5.5 INFIRMITY FOR 38 YEARS (vs 5)
Deut 2:14
"And the time we took to come from Kadesh Barnea until we crossed over the Valley of
the Zered was thirty-eight years, until all the generation of the men of war was
consumed from the midst of the camp, just as the LORD had sworn to them.(NKJ)
38 represents an inaccurate, wandering position.
5.6 IN THAT CONDITION A LONG TIME (vs.6)
An inaccurate position for a long time. This depicts traditional positions - a
longstanding, adaptation to an inaccurate position.
5.7 DO YOU WANT TO BE MADE WELL (vs. 6)
A traditional position can become so comfortable in its abnormality that individuals
do not want to be made well.
5.8 SIR (vs7)
An inaccurate house does not recognize the visitation of Jesus - calls Him sir, instead
of Lord.

Copyright © Dr. S. Y Govender 4

5.9 I HAVE NO MAN (vs. 7)
In an inaccurate house no one is in charge - when no one is in charge you will always
be overtaken.
5.10 JESUS WAS NOT MOVED WITH COMPASSION despite the sufferings
of the multitude in Bethesda.
6. RISE - Change your position. This is a movement from a paralyzed, impotent,
dysfunctional, religious position to a functional position.
TAKE YOUR BED - disconnection - this leaves no reason to come back.
WALK - Change your location (migration)
7. The Jews were more concerned about the law than his healing. They did not ask
him who was the man who made you well. Instead they asked "who told you to take
up your bed and walk?” They were too troubled by his migration to recognize his
healing.
7.1 A RELIGIOUS SPIRIT HAS A LEGALISTIC FOCUS.
7.2 A RELIGIOUS SPIRIT MISSES THE MIRACLE BECAUSE OF A
LEGAL FOCUS.
7.3 RELIGIOUS SPIRITS SURFACE WHEN MIGRATION OCCURS.
8. Vs14 Afterward Jesus found him in the temple.
The Sheepgate was the only legitimate entrance to the temple. The man left his
position at the pool, went through the Sheepgate to the temple. He was paralyzed for
38 years. He could have celebrated his healing at any place of his choice. He
voluntarily went to the temple demonstrating his passion for God. A MOVEMENT
FROM THE HOUSE TO THE TEMPLE REPRESENTS ACCURATE
MIGRATION.
People of passion are in the temple:-
ANNA -Luke 2:37
SIMEON - Luke 2:25
JESUS - Luke 2:46
The Father's business is in the temple.
Hab 2:20
But the LORD is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.(KJV)
9. The Passover Feast celebrated Israel's deliverance from Egypt. Israel migrated
from Egypt.
In a way it was a feast that celebrated their migration. The impotent man's
migration is in a way the celebration of Passover in his own life in the Feast of the
Passover.
10. ACCURATE MIGRATION
10.1 FROM ISOLATION TO RELATIONSHIPS/NETWORKING
Heb 10:25
not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but
exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.(NKJ)
10.2 FROM THE GIFTS TO THE GIVER
This is a movement from a gift focus to a Christ focus. From healing to the healer.
Phil 3:8

Copyright © Dr. S. Y Govender 5

Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of
Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count
them but dung, that I may win Christ,(KJV)
Heb 12:2
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set
before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of
the throne of God.(KJV)
10.3 FROM WANDERING TO SETTLING/STABILITY
This is a migration to stability e.g.
10.3.1 STABILITY IN FAITH
Col 2:7
Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught,
abounding therein with thanksgiving.(KJV)
1Thes 3:2-4
2And sent Timotheus, our brother, and minister of God, and our fellowlabourer in
the gospel of Christ, to establish you, and to comfort you concerning your faith:
3That no man should be moved by these afflictions: for yourselves know that we
are appointed thereunto.
4For verily, when we were with you, we told you before that we should suffer
tribulation; even as it came to pass, and ye know.(KJV)
Rom 1:11
For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye
may be established;(KJV)
10.3.2 STABILITY IN DOCTRINE
Heb 13:9
Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that
the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them
that have been occupied therein.(KJV)
10.3.3 STABILITY IN PRESENT TRUTH
2 Pet 1:12
Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these
things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.(KJV)
10.3.4 STABILITY IN LOVE
Eph 3:17-19
17That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and
grounded in love,
18May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and
depth, and height;
19And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled
with all the fulness of God.(KJV)
10.4 FROM MANIFESTATION TO THE VOICE OF GOD
Virtually every manifestation is accompanied by the voice of God. Manifestations
direct us to the voice of God. Examples:
10.4.1 THRONE TO THE VOICE
Isa.6:1-4; 8 manifestation of the throne was followed by the voice of God.
10.4.2 MOVE OF THE SPIRIT TO THE VOICE

Copyright © Dr. S. Y Govender 6

Gen 1:2-3
2And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the
deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
3And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.(KJV)
10.4.3 DOVE TO THE VOICE
Matt 3:16-17
16And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the
heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove,
and lighting upon him:
17And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well
pleased.(KJV)
10.4.4 LIGHT TO THE VOICE
Acts 9:3-4
3And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round
about him a light from heaven:
4And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why
persecutest thou me?(KJV)
It is totally inaccurate to focus on the manifestation and ignore the voice.
10.5 FROM ABSTRACT DOCTRINE TO DYNAMIC EXPERIENCE.
Positional truth must become practical truth. Doctrine must become manner of life.
2 Cor 3:2
You are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read by all men ;( NKJ)
2 Tim 3:10
But you have carefully followed my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith,
longsuffering, love, perseverance, (NKJ)
10.6 FROM TRADITIONS TO BIBLICAL ACCURACY
Mark 7:13
"making the word of God of no effect through your tradition which you have handed
down. And many such things you do."(NKJ)
Our instruction in righteousness must come from the scriptures, not from human
traditions.
2 Tim 3:16
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof,
for correction, for instruction in righteousness,(NKJ)
The Spirit and the Word must agree.
10.7 FROM ESCAPING TO OCCUPYING
Luke 19:13
And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them,
Occupy till I come.(KJV)
1 Pet 2:9
But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special
people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into
His marvelous light;(NKJ)
Our royalty is manifested by an occupying mentality.
Eph 1:22-23

Copyright © Dr. S. Y Govender 7

22And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to
the church,
23Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.
(KJV)
Eph 1:22-23
22And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over
everything for the church,
23which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.(NIV)
Deut 28:13
"And the LORD will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only, and
not be beneath, if you heed the commandments of the LORD your God, which I
command you today, and are careful to observe them.(NKJ)
10.8 FROM DEPENDANCE TO AUTONOMY
Eph 6:11
Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the
devil.
(NKJ)
This is a level of personal stature that delivers one from addiction to leadership.
Heb 4:16
Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find
grace to help in time of need.(NKJ)
1 Tim 2:5
For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ
Jesus;(KJV)
Ultimately our dependence must be on Christ.
10.9 FROM LOCAL TO GLOBAL
Acts 1:8
"But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall
be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the
earth."(NKJ)
Matt 28:19
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and
of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:(KJV)
10.10 FROM ENTRANCE TO THE FINISH
Acts 20:24
But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I
might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord
Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.(KJV)
2 Tim 4:7
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:(KJV)
This is a migration from a salvation experience to a position of functional ministry
in the Body of Christ.
10.11 FROM SPECTATOR TO PARTICIPANT
This is a migration from audience based Christianity to functional ministry as
above.
10.12 FROM NEW BIRTH TO PERFECTION

Copyright © Dr. S. Y Govender 8

Heb 6:1
Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to
perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith
toward God,
(NKJ)
OTHER AREAS:
 FROM CONDEMNATION TO LOVE
 INSTITUTION TO FAMILY/ORGANIC CHURCH
 PRETENSION TO GENUINENESS/AUTHENTICITY
 LECTURES TO INCIDENTAL TEACHING
 MANIPULATION TO VOLUNTARY ACCOUNTABILITY
 SLAVERY TO SONSHIP
 LOGOS TO RHEMA
 APATHY TO PASSION
 REVELATION TO IMPLEMENTATION
 MY WILL TO HIS WILL
 ADULLAM TO HEBRON
 HEBRON TO ZION
 HOLY PLACE TO THE MOST HOLY PLACE
11 HINDRANCES TO MIGRATION
11.1 DAMAGED MINDSETS
These are mental strongholds that exalt themselves above the knowledge of God.
2 Cor 10:5
casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge
of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,(NKJ)
Examples: 11.1.1 SUPERSTITIOUS MINDSET
11.1.2 TRADITIONAL MINDSET
11.1.3 SENTIMENTAL MINDSET
11.1.4 ILLOGICALITY
11.2 WRONG COMPANY
Solomon's immoral associations prevented him from moving into the purposes of
God.
1 King 11:1-5
11.3 ABSENCE OF FAITH
Faith destroys fear. It propels the believer to take risks. In Mark 10:50-52
Bartimaeus moved from blindness to sight in a clear demonstration of risk by
throwing aside his garment (his livelihood depended on this item of clothing for it
validated his disability). An absence of faith will preclude the believer from taking
the risk in migration.
11.4 REBELLION
This is plain disobedience to the word of God - e.g. Jonah.
11.5 FLESH (CARNALITY)
1Cor.10:5-11
The Israelites failed to migrate to the Promised Land because of works of the flesh.
11.6 IGNORANCE
Hosea 4:6

Copyright © Dr. S. Y Govender 9

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge:(KJV)
II Ki 17:32-33
32So they feared the LORD, and made unto themselves of the lowest of them priests of
the high places, which sacrificed for them in the houses of the high places.
33They feared the LORD, and served their own gods, after the manner of the nations
whom they carried away from thence.(KJV)
Ignorance and fear led to idolatry.
Bethesda was ignorant of the fact that someone greater than an angel was there.
11.7 SPIRIT OF FEAR
The 10 spies feared the giants in the promised land. This inhibited their migration.
11.8 MATERIAL COMFORT AND SECURITY
Luke 12:19
'And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take
your ease; eat, drink, and be merry."'(NKJ)
Personal comfort, security and satisfaction hinder the need for progress.
11.9 THE SPIRIT OF CONTROL
The prophetic voice accelerates migration into the current purposes of God. The
Spirit of Jezebel is antagonistic to the prophetic voice. Uncle Laban who operated
under a Jezebellian Spirit hindered Jacob's progress.
11.10 SPIRITUAL DEAFNESS
Matt 13:13-16
13"Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing
they do not hear, nor do they understand.
14"And in them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says: 'Hearing you will hear
and shall not understand, and seeing you will see and not perceive;
15For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, and
their eyes they have closed, lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears,
lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, so that I should heal them.'
15"But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear ;(NKJ)
A lack of sensitivity to the things of God.
12. EXAMPLES OF INACCURATE MIGRATION
 DEMAS
2 Tim 4:10
for Demas has forsaken me, having loved this present world, and has departed for
Thessalonica-- Crescens for Galatia, Titus for Dalmatia.(NKJ)
DEMAS WENT BACK TO THE WORLD.
 ELIMELECH
Ruth 1:1-2
1Now it came to pass, in the days when the judges ruled, that there was a famine in the
land. And a certain man of Bethlehem, Judah, went to dwell in the country of Moab,
he and his wife and his two sons.
2The name of the man was Elimelech, the name of his wife was Naomi, and the names
of his two sons were Mahlon and Chilion-- Ephrathites of Bethlehem, Judah. And they
went to the country of Moab and remained there.(NKJ)
ELIMELECH LEFT BETHLEHEM (HOUSE OF BREAD) AND WENT TO THE
PLACE OF INIQUITY. HE DIED IN THE PLACE OF INACCURACY.

 LOT
Gen 13:10-13
10And Lot lifted his eyes and saw all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered
everywhere (before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah) like the garden of the
LORD, like the land of Egypt as you go toward Zoar.
11Then Lot chose for himself all the plain of Jordan, and Lot journeyed east. And they
separated from each other.
12Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelt in the cities of the plain and
pitched his tent even as far as Sodom.
13But the men of Sodom were exceedingly wicked and sinful against the LORD.(NKJ)
LOT MIGRATED TO THE FERTILE PLAINS OF JORDAN. IT DID NOT
BOTHER HIM THAT IT WAS LOCATED NEAR SODOM. HIS RIGHTEOUS
SOUL WAS VEXED. HIS WEALTH IS EVENTUALLY BURNED UP AND HE
IS RAPED BY HIS DAUGHTERS. HIS OFFSPRING ARE AMMONITES AND
MOABITES.
 ABRAHAM
Gen 12:10-11
10Now there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down to Egypt to dwell there,
for the famine was severe in the land.
11And it came to pass, when he was close to entering Egypt, that he said to Sarai his
wife, "Indeed I know that you are a woman of beautiful countenance.(NKJ)
ABRAHAM LEFT THEPROMISED LAND AND WENT TO EGYPT. HE
ACQUIRED HAGAR IN EGYPT. THE REST IS HISTORY.
 THE YOUNG PROPHET
IKing 13:14-17
14and went after the man of God, and found him sitting under an oak. Then he said to
him, "Are you the man of God who came from Judah?" And he said, "I am."
15Then he said to him, "Come home with me and eat bread."
16And he said, "I cannot return with you nor go in with you; neither can I eat bread
nor drink water with you in this place.
17"For I have been told by the word of the LORD, 'You shall not eat bread nor drink
water there, nor return by going the way you came.'"(NKJ)
IKing 13:19-23
19So he went back with him, and ate bread in his house, and drank water.
20Now it happened, as they sat at the table, that the word of the LORD came to the
prophet who had brought him back;
21and he cried out to the man of God who came from Judah, saying, "Thus says the
LORD: 'Because you have disobeyed the word of the LORD, and have not kept the
commandment which the LORD your God commanded you,
22'but you came back, ate bread, and drank water in the place of which the LORD said
to you, "Eat no bread and drink no water," your corpse shall not come to the tomb of
your fathers.'"
23So it was, after he had eaten bread and after he had drunk, that he saddled the
donkey for him, the prophet whom he had brought back.(NKJ)
THE YOUNG PROPHET WENT BACK TO BETHEL, IN VIOLATION OF THE
WORD OF THE LORD. HIS JOURNEY ENDS IN TRAGEDY.

 JACOB
God’s command was that he return to the land of his family.
Gen 31:13
'I am the God of Bethel, where you anointed the pillar and where you made a vow to
Me. Now arise, get out of this land, and return to the land of your family.'(NKJ)
JACOB WAS ON HIS WAY TO HEBRON. HE MADE A DETOUR AND
SETTLED IN SHECHEM. HERE HIS DAUGHTER DINAH WAS RAPED.
Gen 33:17-34:1
17And Jacob journeyed to Succoth, built himself a house, and made booths for his
livestock. Therefore the name of the place is called Succoth.
18Then Jacob came safely to the city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan,
when he came from Padan Aram; and he pitched his tent before the city.
19And he bought the parcel of land, where he had pitched his tent, from the children of
Hamor, Shechem's father, for one hundred pieces of money.
20Then he erected an altar there and called it El Elohe Israel.
CHAPTER 34
1Now Dinah the daughter of Leah, whom she had borne to Jacob, went out to see the
daughters of the land.(NKJ)
13. BENEFITS OF MIGRATION
MNEMONIC “PILGRIMAGE”
PRESENCE(CLOUD)
INHERITANCE(PURPOSE)
LIBERTY (OUT OF EGYPT AND BABYLON)
GROWTH(NUMERICALGROWTH)
REVELATION(WORD FROM THE LORD)
IMPARTATION(ELIJAH AND ELISHA)
MATURITY(BLIND MAN AT SILOAM)
ABUNDANCE(4 LEPERS)
GLADNESS (LAME)
ESCAPE
AMPLIFICATION
PRESENCE(CLOUD)
The benefits of the cloud were for those who moved with the demands of God.
Exod 13:21-22
21And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way, and by
night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so as to go by day and night.
22He did not take away the pillar of cloud by day or the pillar of fire by night from
before the people. (NKJ)
1 Cor 10:1-2
1Moreover, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware that all our fathers were under
the cloud, all passed through the sea,
2all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, (NKJ)
The Ark of the Covenant shifted from Mount Gibeah to Mount Zion. To access the
presence one had to go to Mount Zion.
1 Chr 13:2-3

2And David said to all the assembly of Israel, "If it seems good to you, and if it is of the
LORD our God, let us send out to our brethren everywhere who are left in all the land
of Israel, and with them to the priests and Levites who are in their cities and their
common-lands, that they may gather together to us;
3"and let us bring the ark of our God back to us, for we have not inquired at it since
the days of Saul. (NKJ)
Accurate migration shifts you to where God is, not where He was.
Cain’s inaccurate migration shifted him out of the presence of God.
Gen 4:16
Then Cain went out from the presence of the LORD and dwelt in the land of Nod on
the east of Eden.(NKJ)
INHERITANCE(PURPOSE)
The inheritance of the Promised Land was contingent upon accurate migration
across Jordan.
The two and half tribes go with Joshua but choose the wrong side of Jordan.
It was God's will that the entire nation go across Jordan. The Promised Land was
across Jordan. The end result of their inaccurate migration was a loss of
inheritance.
Josh 1:2
"Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this
people, to the land which I am giving to them-- the children of Israel.(NKJ)
Gad and Reuben develop a vision outside of Moses'.
THEY REQUEST NOT TO BE TAKEN ACROSS JORDAN.
Num 32:2-5
2the children of Gad and the children of Reuben came and spoke to Moses, to Eleazar
the priest, and to the leaders of the congregation, saying,
3"Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Shebam, Nebo, and Beon,
4"the country which the LORD defeated before the congregation of Israel, is a land for
livestock, and your servants have livestock."
5Therefore they said, "If we have found favor in your sight, let this land be given to
your servants as a possession. Do not take us over the Jordan."(NKJ)
Num 32:6-15
6And Moses said to the children of Gad and to the children of Reuben: "Shall your
brethren go to war while you sit here?
7"Now why will you discourage the heart of the children of Israel from going over into
the land which the LORD has given them?
8"Thus your fathers did when I sent them away from Kadesh Barnea to see the land.
9"For when they went up to the Valley of Eshcol and saw the land, they discouraged
the heart of the children of Israel, so that they did not go into the land which the
LORD had given them.
10"So the LORD'S anger was aroused on that day, and He swore an oath, saying,
11'Surely none of the men who came up from Egypt, from twenty years old and above,
shall see the land of which I swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, because they have
not wholly followed Me,
12'except Caleb the son of Jephunneh, the Kenizzite, and Joshua the son of Nun, for
they have wholly followed the LORD.'

13"So the LORD'S anger was aroused against Israel, and He made them wander in
the wilderness forty years, until all the generation that had done evil in the sight of the
LORD was gone.
14"And look! You have risen in your father's place, a brood of sinful men, to increase
still more the fierce anger of the LORD against Israel.
15"For if you turn away from following Him, He will once again leave them in the
wilderness, and you will destroy all these people."(NKJ)
MOSES IS WORRIED ABOUT A POSSIBLE MISCARRIAGE.
Num 32:16-30
16Then they came near to him and said: "We will build sheepfolds here for our
livestock, and cities for our little ones,
17"but we ourselves will be armed, ready to go before the children of Israel until we
have brought them to their place; and our little ones will dwell in the fortified cities
because of the inhabitants of the land.
18"We will not return to our homes until every one of the children of Israel has
received his inheritance.
19"For we will not inherit with them on the other side of the Jordan and beyond,
because our inheritance has fallen to us on this eastern side of the Jordan."
20Then Moses said to them: "If you do this thing, if you arm yourselves before the
LORD for the war,
21"and all your armed men cross over the Jordan before the LORD until He has
driven out His enemies from before Him,
22"and the land is subdued before the LORD, then afterward you may return and be
blameless before the LORD and before Israel; and this land shall be your possession
before the LORD.
23"But if you do not do so, then take note, you have sinned against the LORD; and be
sure your sin will find you out.
24"Build cities for your little ones and folds for your sheep, and do what has proceeded
out of your mouth."
25And the children of Gad and the children of Reuben spoke to Moses, saying: "Your
servants will do as my lord commands.
26"Our little ones, our wives, our flocks, and all our livestock will be there in the cities
of Gilead;
27"but your servants will cross over, every man armed for war, before the LORD to
battle, just as my lord says."
28So Moses gave command concerning them to Eleazar the priest, to Joshua the son of
Nun, and to the chief fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel.
29And Moses said to them: "If the children of Gad and the children of Reuben cross
over the Jordan with you, every man armed for battle before the LORD, and the land is
subdued before you, then you shall give them the land of Gilead as a possession.
30"But if they do not cross over armed with you, they shall have possessions among
you in the land of Canaan."(NKJ)
Moses succumbs to their request.
Num 32:31-33
31Then the children of Gad and the children of Reuben answered, saying: "As the
LORD has said to your servants, so we will do.

32"We will cross over armed before the LORD into the land of Canaan, but the
possession of our inheritance shall remain with us on this side of the Jordan."
33So Moses gave to the children of Gad, to the children of Reuben, and to half the
tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites and
the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land with its cities within the borders, the cities
of the surrounding country.(NKJ)
Joshua sees to it that that their request is honoured.
Josh 22:1-4
1Then Joshua called the Reubenites, the Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh,
2and said to them: "You have kept all that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded
you, and have obeyed my voice in all that I commanded you.
3"You have not left your brethren these many days, up to this day, but have kept the
charge of the commandment of the LORD your God.
4"And now the LORD your God has given rest to your brethren, as He promised them;
now therefore, return and go to your tents and to the land of your possession, which
Moses the servant of the LORD gave you on the other side of the Jordan.(NKJ)
Josh 22:9
9So the children of Reuben, the children of Gad, and half the tribe of Manasseh
returned, and departed from the children of Israel at Shiloh, which is in the land of
Canaan, to go to the country of Gilead, to the land of their possession, which they had
obtained according to the word of the LORD by the hand of Moses.(NKJ)
THE 2 AND ½ TRIBES LOVED MOSES' VISION, FOUGHT FOR THE VISION
BUT IN THE END WERE LOYAL TO THEIR OWN VISION, ON THE WRONG
SIDE OF JORDAN.
THEY EVEN CALLED THEIR VISION "THE LORD HAS SAID".
Num 32:31-32
31Then the children of Gad and the children of Reuben answered, saying: "As the
LORD has said to your servants, so we will do.
32"We will cross over armed before the LORD into the land of Canaan, but the
possession of our inheritance shall remain with us on this side of the Jordan. (NKJ)
The land they chose was eventually called the country of the Gadarenes.
SEE THE OUTCOME OF THIS VISION SEVERAL YEARS LATER.
Mark 5:1-3
1Then they came to the other side of the sea, to the country of the Gadarenes.
2And when He had come out of the boat, immediately there met Him out of the tombs a
man with an unclean spirit,
3who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no one could bind him, not even with
chains, (NKJ)
Mark 5:11-12
11Now a large herd of swine was feeding there near the mountains.
12So all the demons begged Him, saying, "Send us to the swine, that we may enter
them. (NKJ)
THE BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY CHOSEN BY THE 2 AND ½ TRIBES WAS NOW:
 A GRAVEYARD(TOMBS)
 A HABITATION FOR DEMONS.
 A GRAZING PLACE FOR PIGS.

This is a result of inaccurate migration.
LIBERTY (OUT OF EGYPT AND BABYLON)
 FROM BABYLON
Ezra 2:1
Now these are the people of the province who came back from the captivity, of those
who had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried
away to Babylon, and who returned to Jerusalem and Judah, everyone to his own
city.(NKJ)
 OUT OF EGYPT
Exod 3:10
"Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people,
the children of Israel, out of Egypt. (NKJ)
Hosea 11:1
"When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called My son. (NKJ)
GROWTH (NUMERICALGROWTH)
 PENTECOSTAL MIGRATION
Acts 2:41-42
41Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three
thousand souls were added to them.
42And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the
breaking of bread, and in prayers.(NKJ)
 THE LAME MAN’S MIGRATION FROM THE GATE
Acts 3:7-11
7And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and
ankle bones received strength.
8So he, leaping up, stood and walked and entered the temple with them-- walking,
leaping, and praising God.
9And all the people saw him walking and praising God.
10Then they knew that it was he who sat begging alms at the Beautiful Gate of the
temple; and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.
11Now as the lame man who was healed held on to Peter and John, all the people ran
together to them in the porch which is called Solomon's, greatly amazed. (NKJ)
Acts 4:4
However, many of those who heard the word believed; and the number of the men
came to be about five thousand. (NKJ)
REVELATION (WORD FROM THE LORD)
Those who moved under the cloud had access to the manna.
A change in mental position leads to
Prov 1:23
Turn at my rebuke; surely I will pour out my spirit on you; I will make my words
known to you.(NKJ)
Repentance positions one to access revelation.
IMPARTATION (ELIJAH AND ELISHA)
Elisha migrated from Abel Meholah to Gilgal to Bethel to Jericho to Jordan to
access a double portion of Elijah’s anointing.

MATURITY (BLIND MAN AT SILOAM)
Following his visit to the Pool of Siloam, the blind man shifted from blindness to
sight – symbolic of a shift to maturity following accurate migration.
See John 9
ABUNDANCE (4 LEPERS)
II Ki 7:3-5
3Now there were four leprous men at the entrance of the gate; and they said to one
another, "Why are we sitting here until we die?
4"If we say, 'We will enter the city,' the famine is in the city, and we shall die there.
And if we sit here, we die also. Now therefore, come, let us surrender to the army of the
Syrians. If they keep us alive, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall but die."
5And they rose at twilight to go to the camp of the Syrians; and when they had come to
the outskirts of the Syrian camp, to their surprise no one was there.
(NKJ)
II Ki 7:8
And when these lepers came to the outskirts of the camp, they went into one tent and
ate and drank, and carried from it silver and gold and clothing, and went and hid
them; then they came back and entered another tent, and carried some from there also,
and went and hid it.(NKJ)
The migration of the leprous men from the gate of Samaria to the Syrian camp,
shifted them to abundance.
The migration of the Israelites across Jordan shifted them to the milk and honey of
the Promised Land.
GLADNESS (LAME)
Acts 3:6-9
6Then Peter said, "Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the
name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk."
7And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and
ankle bones received strength.
8So he, leaping up, stood and walked and entered the temple with them-- walking,
leaping, and praising God.
9And all the people saw him walking and praising God. (NKJ)
The lame man migrated from the gate to the temple with gladness.
Acts 8:6-8
6And the multitudes with one accord heeded the things spoken by Philip, hearing and
seeing the miracles which he did.
7For unclean spirits, crying with a loud voice, came out of many who were possessed;
and many who were paralyzed and lame were healed.
8And there was great joy in that city.(NKJ)
Samaria’s migration was followed by joy.

14. REQUIREMENTS FOR MIGRATION
SOMETIMES A LEADER MAY MIGRATE WITHOUT HIS PEOPLE.
JEHOSHAPHAT
2 Chr 20:31-33
31So Jehoshaphat was king over Judah. He was thirty-five years old when he became
king, and he reigned twenty-five years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Azubah
the daughter of Shilhi.
32And he walked in the way of his father Asa, and did not turn aside from it, doing
what was right in the sight of the LORD.
33Nevertheless the high places were not taken away, for as yet the people had not
directed their hearts to the God of their fathers.(NKJ)
MANASSEH
2 Chr 33:15-18
15He took away the foreign gods and the idol from the house of the LORD, and all the
altars that he had built in the mount of the house of the LORD and in Jerusalem; and
he cast them out of the city.
16He also repaired the altar of the LORD, sacrificed peace offerings and thank
offerings on it, and commanded Judah to serve the LORD God of Israel.
17Nevertheless the people still sacrificed on the high places, but only to the LORD
their God.
18Now the rest of the acts of Manasseh, his prayer to his God, and the words of the
seers who spoke to him in the name of the LORD God of Israel, indeed they are written
in the book of the kings of Israel.(NKJ)
UZZIAH(AZARIAH)
II Ki 15:1-5
1In the twenty-seventh year of Jeroboam king of Israel, Azariah the son of Amaziah,
king of Judah, became king.
2He was sixteen years old when he became king, and he reigned fifty-two years in
Jerusalem. His mother's name was Jecholiah of Jerusalem.
3And he did what was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father
Amaziah had done,
4except that the high places were not removed; the people still sacrificed and burned
incense on the high places.
5Then the LORD struck the king, so that he was a leper until the day of his death; so
he dwelt in an isolated house. And Jotham the king's son was over the royal house,
judging the people of the land.(NKJ)
REQUIREMENTS FOR MIGRATION:
 JESUS
Jesus is central to every migration.
In the Passover - He is the Passover lamb.
In Bethesda, His arrival is central to migration
At the gate called Beautiful - healing took place in His name and was the inception

to the migration of the lame man.
He is the pillar of fire.
He is the rock that gave water.
He is the cloud.
JESUS IS QUINTESSENTIAL FOR ANY MIGRATORY PROCESS.
 ELIMINATION OF HINDRANCES
REFER TO HINDRANCES TO MIGRATION.
Elimination of spiritual insensitivity. The natural man cannot receive the things of
God – he is spiritually insensitive. He has no concept of migration.
Deliverance from blindness (Emmaus road experience).
Perception determines pursuit.
You cannot move into that which you cannot see.
The rich man going through the eye of the needle - He must offload the riches of the
old move.
 SUPERNATURAL INTERVENTION
This often precedes migration.
The Red sea parting.
The parting of Jordan.
The pillar and cloud.
The healing of the man at the pool of Bethesda.
 UNITY
PRINCIPLES OF UNITY FOR MIGRATION.
1. SIMILAR BELIEFS (believe the same things)
This is the one accord principle. The gathering together as one man.
2. ONE MIND WITH THE SET MAN(saying the same things)
Joshua
go over this Jordan, you and all this people
David and his men.
There must be agreement with the leader.
3. CORPORATE BROKENESS(feeling the same way)
Proud folk cannot migrate. A Gideon company is needed.
4. DWELLING TOGETHER (PERMANENT RELATIONSLHIP)
There must be covenant community.
5. SIMILAR ACTIVITY(doing the same things that God has instructed)
Walking around the walls, breaking vessels, warfare.
 SET MAN THAT HAS MIGRATED
You cannot lead people where you have not been.
The set man models transition.
HEZEKIAH INSPIRED TRANSFORMATION IN THE PEOPLE
2 Chr 31:1
Now when all this was finished, all Israel who were present went out to the cities of
Judah and broke the sacred pillars in pieces, cut down the wooden images, and threw
down the high places and the altars-- from all Judah, Benjamin, Ephraim, and
Manasseh-- until they had utterly destroyed them all. Then all the children of Israel
returned to their own cities, every man to his possession.(NKJ)

Copyright © Dr. S. Y Govender 19

The people migrated with their leader. Under his leadership the people changed.
Under his leadership the people became autonomously godly - the people now did
what was right in God's eyes. His spirit was transferred to the people.
 JEHOIADA GRACE
A second man is needed. Jehoiada was not a set man – under his influence the
people migrated.
2 Chr 23:16-17
16Then Jehoiada made a covenant between himself, the people, and the king, that they
should be the LORD'S people.
17And all the people went to the temple of Baal, and tore it down. They broke in pieces
its altars and images, and killed Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars.(NKJ)
When the work force migrates then the whole church migrates.
Leadership support is vital for corporate migration.
 OUTGROWTH
Isa 28:20
For the bed is too short to stretch out on, and the covering so narrow that one cannot
wrap himself in it.(NKJ)
OUTGROWTH PUTS PRESSURE TO MIGRATE.
“Enough, no more, tis not so sweet now as it was before”-SHAKESPEARE.
 INCENTIVES
SEE BENEFITS OF MIGRATION ABOVE.
 NEED vs. OPTION
Migration must be seen as a necessity rather than one of many options for it to take
place. The four lepers recognized that if they did not migrate, death was certain.
 EMPOWERMENT
Must be empowered before migration.
When Israel left Egypt, they left with resources.
Jacob had resources before migration. Even the man at the pool had a bed.
 DESIRE
The desire to please God must be present for migration to take place.
Ps 110:3
Your people shall be volunteers in the day of Your power; in the beauties of holiness,
from the womb of the morning, you have the dew of Your youth.(NKJ)
Neh 4:6
So we built the wall, and the entire wall was joined together up to half its height, for
the people had a mind to work.(NKJ)

heaven and before you,
19and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired

ABRAHAM
Gen 12:1-4
1Now the LORD had said to Abram: "Get out of your country, from your family and
from your father's house, to a land that I will show you.
2I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you
shall be a blessing.
3I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all
the families of the earth shall be blessed."

Exod 12:30-43
30So Pharaoh rose in the night, he, all his servants, and all the Egyptians; and there
was a great cry in Egypt, for there was not a house where there was not one dead.
31Then he called for Moses and Aaron by night, and said, "Rise, go out from among
my people, both you and the children of Israel. And go, serve the LORD as you have
said.
32"Also take your flocks and your herds, as you have said, and be gone; and bless me
also."
33And the Egyptians urged the people, that they might send them out of the land in
haste. For they said, "We shall all be dead."
34So the people took their dough before it was leavened, having their kneading bowls
bound up in their clothes on their shoulders.
35Now the children of Israel had done according to the word of Moses, and they had
asked from the Egyptians articles of silver, articles of gold, and clothing.
36And the LORD had given the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they
granted them what they requested. Thus they plundered the Egyptians.
37Then the children of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred
thousand men on foot, besides children.
38A mixed multitude went up with them also, and flocks and herds-- a great deal of
livestock.
39And they baked unleavened cakes of the dough which they had brought out of
Egypt; for it was not leavened, because they were driven out of Egypt and could not
wait, nor had they prepared provisions for themselves.
40Now the sojourn of the children of Israel who lived in Egypt was four hundred and
thirty years.
41And it came to pass at the end of the four hundred and thirty years-- on that very
same day-- it came to pass that all the armies of the LORD went out from the land of
Egypt.
42It is a night of solemn observance to the LORD for bringing them out of the land of
Egypt. This is that night of the LORD, a solemn observance for all the children of
Israel throughout their generations.
43And the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "This is the ordinance of the Passover: No
foreigner shall eat it.(NKJ)

Moses.

4And fixing his eyes on him, with John, Peter said, "Look at us."
