1. Message Manager Release
Overview
This chapter describes the characteristics and features of this release of Message Manager (MM)
software and the supported platforms on which it can be installed.
The Message Manager software package (MM) supplies the I/A Series® system with a central
routing mechanism for transmitting process alarms and event messages to a variety of interfaces,
including workstations, historian archives, printers, or alarm logs. Message Manager also forwards
messages to the Alarm Management Subsystem (AMS), which handles the graphical user interface
and alarm annunciation by way of multiple configurable alarm displays and annunciator horns,
and to the AIM*Historian™ software package for message archiving.
NOTE
The term “I/A Series workstation” in this document applies to both Windows XP
systems and Windows Server 2003 server systems running I/A Series V8.2 software.
! CAUTION
The redundant MM configuration is highly recommended. If the MM system is not
redundant, MM functionality is lost if a failure occurs.
It is also required that the Message Manager workstations are dedicated to Message Manager.
They cannot run other applications.
