1 DESCRIBING A ROOM

a Read Ana's description of her room. Does it sound comfortable to you? Why (not)?

For me, it is not a comfortable room because of the color so strident. Also, I think there are too many
furniture that is not very functional and annoying, like those unnecessary cupboards. I think cleaning will
also be a problem. Therefore, I think that this room should be extensively remodeled so that it offers real
comfort

b Read the description again. Number the topics in the order she mentions them.

D What furniture there is 2

D Where the room is 3

MY PINK ROOM

l've just finished university so l'm living 1 _at_ my parents'

house at the moment, 2 in my old room. lt hasn't changed

since I was a teenager. The walls are pale pink and the door and

the window frame are much darker pink. We painted the room

when we first moved there when I was 13, and l'm 23 now but

I still love the colour.

lt's quite a big room with a huge wardrobe along one wall, so
I have plenty of space for all my clothes and shoes and jewellery.

There's a full-length mirror inside the wardrobe door. My bed

is painted bright pink, and has lots of cushions on it.

There's a disco ball hanging from the ceiling in the middle of the room. I have the same desk l've had since

I was really little. lt's pushed right up against the wall and

above the desk there are some wooden shelves that my dad

put up. That's where I keep my diaries, books, and some plants.

There's also a big pinkish rug on the floor.

I have an armchair in the corner which my mum

didn't want anymore. lt's got yellow and blue stripes. lt's really

comfortable but quite ugly, and the colours don't match the rest of

the room. l've covered it with a blanket which is also pink to

hide it. My room is quite girly because it has so many pink things.

lt's a bit like me, I suppose, and that's probably why I still like it!

d You're going to write a description of your favourite room. Plan the description.

1 Say which room it is and where.

2 Describe the room, the furniture, and the decoration.

3 Say if the room has changed at all.

4 Explain why it is your favourite room.

e Write the description of the room, in four paragraphs. Use Vocabulary Bank

Adjective suffixes p.l52 to help you with vocabulary.

f Check your description for mistakes

(grammar, vocabulary, punctuation, and spelling).

My favorite room is not in this world, as far as I know. It is only in my mind, in my imagination because I've
never seen it or touch it. However, I have to say that it is as attractive or more than any conventional room.
Let me tell you.

In that ideal room the furniture is not made of wood, not plastic. There are no conventional cupboards, no
desk or television. Neither are there mirrors or toys or beds. There are only golden boxes that transport us
in time to other eras and a large capsule with thousands of files that keep the memory of time. Through the
huge windows there is a transparent light that combines with the gold of the drawers. It is a wonderful
feeling.
It is a fun room that has not changed over time. It remains intact over the centuries. Can you believe that it
does not even need to be cleaned? Well, a little bit of dust does accumulate the drawers.

It's a wonderful room that I would not replace for anything in the world. In fact, it will always continue with
me, in my mind. Of course, at least while alive

SPEAKING

In my opinion, tourists have an opinion of the Spanish that varies according to the country they
come from.

I think that Portuguese, Italians and Greeks are very close to us. However, tourists from
countries like Great Britain do not see us so closely.

In fact, I think the British, especially young British people, treat us very badly. Let's look at the
summer season in the Balearic Islands or the Levante area

The chaos is absolute and the deal horrendous, especially if you are a worker or a neighbor of
that area.

Wondering why this attitude is related to education. In theory, these young tourists are usually
upper class who do here what is forbidden by the classic British Victorian moral

There is also a certain feeling of superiority in that attitude. For them, Spain would be within
what are called pig countries
