SUMMARY

Hyten Corporation is trying to implement the formal project management but based on

their history they’ve been practicing the informal system project management for a long time. This

informal system revolves around each of their departments. Each department handle their own

functional area of a given product development or project. But one day Willbur Donley suggested

the formal project management to the Corporation. He suggest that formal type of project

management will help the department to stay on schedule and get better cooperation. There are

many problems that has to address before implementing it. Like, whether they are going to hire

from inside or outside; they will have to implement a whole new concept which will be cost man

hours, financial and issues; etc.

QUESTIONS:

13.) Do functional managers risk a loss of employee loyalty with the new change?

Yes. The appraisal or evaluation of the employees will be very critical to the happiness of then and

the successful of projects will also be affected because they are forced to become loyal to project

managers than their line managers. Their loyalty will be defined as being committed to the success

of the corporation and if the transformation of the corporation will be not exactly defined this will

lead to lower employee loyalty. The employee will not plan to stay in the corporation and they will

search for another employment with the other companies.

3. Are there any good reasons why Hyten should go to formal project management?

Yes. By implementing formal project management employees in the corporation can gain personal

growth. The formal project management will improve the chances of completing a project with

success. Their employees would learn new things by performing projects in a formal way. Formal

project management is governed by detailed and systematic plan which is inclusive in all relevant

departments. Implementing it to Hyten Corporation will minimize schedule changes, increase

planning in a better way, change the attitude toward quality control and minimize manufacturing

problems.

2. Do any of the managers appear to have valid arguments for their beliefs as to why formal project

management should not be considered?

Yes, there is an engineer who named Fred Kunel, he was concerned about the trade-off in

introducing formal project management in Hyten and he felt that they could never live without a

plant engineer within the field. He see a manager as a burden to the company because he saw that

it will not utilize the specialty of the workers and may divide the manpower.

3. Are there any good reasons why Hyten should go to formal project management?

Yes, because they need to go for a formal project management to give solution for the overlapping

works and delay schedule. If their plan and scheduling are not being executed well it will cost a

lot to the corporation and may lead to profit loss.

12. Is it possible that some of the support groups cannot give immediate attention to such an

organizational change?

Absolutely, it is really possible that some support group at Hyten cannot give immediate attention

in organizational change and it will takes time for them to embrace the new changes within the

company.

CONCLUSION

Formal project management of Hyten Corporation will surely have great benefit because it

can bring different areas of the company together and also it will create an overall work structure

that is surely more efficient. Even though there are many different views about the implementation

of formal project management to Hyten Corporation most of their workers supports this change.

But we believe that after the company switch to a formal project management it would be easier

to adopt any type of project because the structure will be there and it would be aligned with

strategic planning of the company and will help the employees.
