Computed Radiography Testing (CRT) : A Solution For Corrosion Under Insulation
Computed Radiography (CR) is the production of a digital image by using a Phosphor Imaging Plate (IP) in
place of conventional film. Applus+ CRT can be used for detection of corrosion, erosion, thickness profile
measurement, weld inspections and corrosion under insulation on pipelines, valves and fittings. It allows
the comparison of images between two time separated investigations so the relative rate of corrosion or
erosion can be determined. The sources are also portable allowing them to be used in a wide range of hard
to access locations. Applus+ CRT can be performed on live plant without any need for plant or equipment
shutdown.
APPLICATIONS BENEFITS
Applus+ CRT can be used on the following applications: The Applus+ CRT offers all the following benefits
• Corrosion surveys on pipes to determine the over Conventional RT:
present of Corrosion Under Insulation(CUI) and • Reduces exposure time by up to 50% - 70%.
• Reduces risks due to radiation exposure.
Flow Accelerated Corrosion(FAC).
• Imaging plates are phosphor based and can be

applications. • High sensitivity & resolution.
• Faster image acquisition between 15-25 sec.
• High pressure braze joint inspection.
• Interpretation can be done at site.
(aerospace). • Enhance digital tool for image evaluation.
(Images can be processed for contrast
enhancement, latitude reduction,
noise reduction, edge enhancement, zooming,
spatial frequency control, measurements, etc.)
• Easy archiving, distribution of images via
Internet, email or CD.
Imaging Plates
• Phosphor imaging plates up to 35.5cm wide.
• Flexible, wire free imaging plates to conform to
object shape (typically used on a curved surface)
and rigid cassettes available.
• The light weight cassettes and imaging plates
allowing for a
ccess in difficult to reach areas.
