GA DRAWINGS: PROCEDURE

1. EXPORTING DRAWINGS

A. ISOMETRIC VIEW
- Turn off following layers: All grid layers, Cameras, Model views, Purlins, Girts, Joists, Bridging, All concrete
layers, Cladding sheets, and all other layers ( custom made during modelling, like Hide layers) that do not contain
structural steel elements.
- Click View Cube > Home, to position Model at “Default view“
- Set up XY plane at current view with the command: Advance Tool palette > UCS > UCS view
- Select everything on the screen
- Drawing styles > 1-GA-3D View > 1 - 3D View - Objects Selected – Labels
- Choose “Modify settings“ from the window that will appear
- Name the drawing: GA-00 and choose scale approximately (if necessary change it later in layout)
- Open “Document manager“ and check the drawing in the preview pane

B. H.D.B. PLAN AND DETAILS

- Choose: Adv. Tool Palette > Tools > Create camera, UCS to insert a camera at any base plate (choose the
camera tool and just click at some base plate, in any view)
- When the window appears, set the camera as following:
CAMERA PROPERTIES:
 Type: Anchor plan
 Description: H.D.B. Plan and details

C. MARKING PLANS
- GJ
- I
- CAMERA PROPERTIES:

D. SECTIONS
- Place the camera from wished view

2. DRAWINGS COMPONENTS

A. General rules:
 Labels should be positioned as centrally as possible.
 ALL LABELS IN LAYOUT DRAWINGS ARE ASSEMBLY LABELS.
 The purpose of lay-outs are:
o To do a final check that our model is correct,
o To send them to consultants for approval, and finally:
o For riggers to put a structure up.

B. ISOMETRIC VIEW:
 Assemblies’ labels positioned to be readable,
 Drawing name: “ISOMETRIC VIEW“ positioned above the table edge.
 Certain elements are not shown on this drawing. Regarding this, there are layers to be turned off:
o Purlins
o Bridgings
o

C. H.D.B. Plan and Details

 Show grids
 Show North symbol
(This is imported in the model and automatically shown on drawings. As not all GA drawings should include the
symbol for North, it is mentioned here to show it)
 Drawing name: “H.D.B. PLAN AND DETAILS“ positioned above the table edge.
 Show slab setout
 Dimension grids (intermediate distances and distance to slab edge)
 Show columns and base plates with labels
 Dimension columns’ centres to both x and y axes (intermediate distances and distance to slab edge) regarding
to grids!
 Show position of walls (if necessary)
 Show position of lifts (if necessary)
 Setdown (if necessary)
 Notes:
o If there is no measurement shown, it means that a column is positioned centrally over a grid (this is regular
note, asigned to all H.D.B. plans)
o Other important notes.
 Details:
o 2 projections, aligned by height (top view and relevant joint intersection)
o Bolt hole axis distance dimensioned regarding the column axes (x,y axes)
o Base plate dimensions (x,y axes)
o Column axes dimensioned regarding the base plate (if necessary)
o R.L. for: Top of slab/footing/etc.
o Grout dimension
o Thread dimension (if thread is included)
o Recess dimension
o Embedment
o R.L. table if necessary (if there are many different columns and R.L.-s)
o Label the anchors with noting the quantity in a set (particular base plate joint)
2
o Detail name under relevant detail: “H.D.B. DETAIL FOR: stating columns’ labels“ with noting the quantity
of required sets
o Notes for all important elements (e.g. backing plate in cast in anchors).

D. MARKING PLANS
A. All steel marking plans
 Show only assembly labels,
 Show grids,
 Show North symbol,
 Drawing name: “MARKING PLAN“ positioned above the table edge,
 Dimension grids,
 Dimension columns (CTS system),
 Dimension overhangs (if there are any),
 Dimension other specially important things,
 Show section markings,
 Notes:
o Show the connection joint to each place where there is concrete or brick
o Show site welded assemblies
o Other important notes.
B. Purlin marking plan
 Only purlin and bridging labels,
 Dimension roof openings regarding to grids, if there are any,
 Drawing name: “PURLIN MARKING PLAN“ positioned above the table edge or under the drawing,
 Notes:
o If any extraordinary connection joints are used, for example, if a purlin is fixed to concrete/brick/block wall
with GPB and chemsets, etc.

E. SECTIONAL DRAWINGS
 Show sections:
o which are shown on architectural and egineering drawings (maybe not all of them would be required),
o wherever geometry changes,
o wherever girts are positioned,
o wherever assemblies are fixed using chemsets.
 Show grids,
 Dimension grids,
 Roofing,
 Gutters,
 Cladding (if necessary),
 Top of slab,
 Any other element which is crucial for us, e.g. ceiling line (if necessary),
 R.L.-s for:
o All that is relevant for our work and is shown on architectural drawings
o All that we asked for in our RFI-s.

3. EXPORT LAYOUT AS MODEL
3. Open layout drawing (from the model or Details folder) and go to Application menu ( ).
4. Save file by: Save as > Save Layout as drawing > Choose new file’s location.
5. When a window pops up, choose whether to open the drawing immediately or not.
6. When you open new layout file saved as model, scale the drawing to 1:1 scale.
7. Type LTS > choose
8. Purge drawing: type PURGE > select PURGE ALL > select PURGE THIS ITEM
