GENERAL GUIDELINES
ENVIROMENT, HEALTH & SAFETY
In addition to the generally recommended safety instructions and equipment for works
on construction sites, the following personal protective equipment (PPE) is essential for
anyone working with solvent-dispersed primers or resin based chemical products,
because handling or working with this type of materials can cause irritation to the eyes,
skin, nose and throat.
• Appropriate eye protection should be worn at all times while handling and mixing
such products.
• Safety shoes, gloves and other appropriate skin protection, such as long-sleeved
shirts (or barrier cream on the skin) must be worn at all times.
• Ensure sufficient ventilation during application in closed or confined spaces.
Additionally, a respiration breathing mask may be required or helpful in these
situations.
• Despite taking all safety precautions, if there are any instances of skin contact, then
rinse immediately with clean warm water and use soap and water to thoroughly
clean the skin.
Always wash hands and exposed skin with suitable soap and water after handling
chemical products and before food consumption.
In the event of any spillage or contact with the eyes, always seek medical advice
immediately after rinsing and cleaning the eyes with a professional eyewash kit or at
the minimum with clean water. Safety glasses or other eye protection obviously reduce
the risk but they can also create a false sense of security.
ECMAS CONSTRUCTION CHEMICALS PVT. LTD.
1. Deliver all materials and/or packages to the jobsite in the manufacturer’s original
unopened containers with legible labels. Protect material from weather, sun and
moisture with tarpaulin.
Remove shipping plastic to prevent moisture condensation.
2. Store and transport containers in such a manner as to prevent over stacking.
3. Protect all materials from temperature extremes. Do not allow solvent containing
materials to be exposed to high temperatures, open flames, or sparks.
4. Store liquid materials in their original undamaged containers in a clean, dry,
protected location. Must be stored within the required storage temperatures.
5. Conform to manufacturer’s recommendations and material handling and storage
specifications.
6. Follow instructions on product label and MSDS for proper storage & handling.
7. Avoid prolonged inhalation of vapours or contact with eyes and skin. See MSDS or
label for instructions. PROPERLY DISPOSE OF EMPTY CONTAINERS PROMPTLY AFTER
USE.
8. Deliver material in sufficient quantity to allow for continuity of work.
9. Select and operate material handling equipment so as not to damage existing
construction or newly installed roofing.
ECMAS CONSTRUCTION CHEMICALS PVT. LTD.
New concrete should be properly water cured for at least 14 days before applying any
waterproofing treatment. Concrete substrate should be structurally sound, clean, dry
and free from loose particles, oil and other contaminations.
The below steps are mandatory prior to application of any waterproofing layer over the
mother surface:
DO NOT PROCEED WITH ANY PART OF THE APPLICATION UNTIL ALL DEFECTS AND
PREPARATION WORK HAVE BEEN CORRECTED AND COMPLETED.
ECMAS CONSTRUCTION CHEMICALS PVT. LTD.

1. Surface Preparation : After adequate curing and when concrete slab has
attained its final strength at 28 days, the entire surface shall be grinded using
BLASTRAC grinding machine and washed with plenty of water. The surface
should be free from dust, dirt, oil, greese or any other foreign materials before
starting the waterproofing application.
2. Crack Treatment : All visible cracks are opened and filled with ECMASEAL PU
3. Construction Joint Treatment : Construction Joints are opened and filled with
ECMASEAL PU
4. Covings : Horizontal and vertical junctions are filled with PMM after
application of bond coat with ECMABOND 510. Thickness of coving to be
determined as per site condition.
5. All drainage points should be properly treated using hydrophobic, non-shrink
ECMAREP BORPAC mortar.
6. After this, a 75 mm depth water ponding shall be carried out for 2-3 days to
identify leakage points in the slab.
7. Leakage & honeycombs if any identified, should be treated with injection
grouting using cement slurry admixed with anti-shrinkage compound Ecmagrout
ECMAS CONSTRUCTION CHEMICALS PVT. LTD.
304. If any untreated cracks have been identified they should be cut & sealed
with ECMASEAL PU.
8. After this, again 75 mm depth water ponding shall be carried out for 2-3 days
to identify leakage points in the slab. This process is to be repeated till there
are ZERO LEAKS.
9. After achieving ZERO LEAKS and before application of Polyurethane
waterproofing coating, please check moisture level and ensure concrete
substrate is in dry condition (moisture level <5%)
10. Providing and applying one layer of “ECMAPRIME PU” (a single component PU
primer for better adhesion between Polyurethane coating and substrate).
11. Spray Applying two coats of Single Component Pure Polyurethane based
“ECMACOAT FLEX PU 40” a highly flexible waterproofing, at an average thickness
of 1.2 mm (DFT) at 1.5 Kgs/SQM. Time interval between two coats will be 10 -
15 hours and both the coats should be in perpendicular direction to each other.
12. After application of both the coats of ECMACOAT FLEX PU 40, it should be allowed
to cure for 7 days.
ECMAS CONSTRUCTION CHEMICALS PVT. LTD.
Protection & Slope: Providing and applying protective screed of M20 Concrete
admixed with Integral waterproofing compound Ecmaguard WPL in desired slope
towards drain with average thickness of 60-80 mm (supply of screed material
is under the scope of main civil contractor/ client). Within 24 hours of laying,
protection concrete should be cut in panels of 3 m x 3 m by cutting grooves of 6
mm x 6 mm and sealing the same with flexible sealant to avoid cracks. Finally,
the top of Protection concrete shall be finished with cement slurry rendering
plaster including threading at 300 mm intervals when it is still in green condition.
Post treatment, the entire area should be well cured/ water ponded for 5 days.
Water Testing: The entire treated area will be filled with water for a period of
24 - 48 hours to check for leakages.
