WINCHES
6.1.3 Temperature
- must be over 10 oc
-fast variations in temperature must be avoided
Electric motors
Insulation resistance and services must be checked before use. This
resistance must not be lower than 1 Mega Ohm. If values are below
this, attempts must be made to dry the motor by switching standby
heating for a while. The motor can also be dryed in an electric repair
shop.
If motor has cylinder bearing, you must stop the rotor turning by
transport support in order to protect the bearing against vibration
damage. Motors equipped with vibration absorbers should also be
stored according to above instructions.
When taking into use a motor that has been stored over a year, remove
the outer bearing plates and check the bearings for any signs of
corrosion. If such are found change the bearings as smallest corrosion
damage can significantly shorten the lifespan of bearings. Undamaged
bearings must be relubricated.
6.1. 7 Liftings
When lifted up use only marked lift points and officially accepted and
inspected lifting devised .
Cable types and diameters have been presented with the following presumptions in
drawings.
• increased .
6.3.1 Installations
Scale drawings show instrument attachment dimensions.
Work done at dock:
-installation of machinery (needed installation gear: bolts, nuts,
supports etc. belong to dock delivery)
-if ship has special vibration endurance requirements:
-vessels traveling among ice
-vessels intended for military use
the dock must use vibration absorbers in fittings for dividing casings,
steering desks, etc. (dock delivery)
-cable coupling
-installation of inlets
-place paintings, required protection etc.
6.3.4 Connections
Be careful when connecting:
-heating
-breaks
- thermistors
It must be noticed that fitting base takes only 2 .. 3 fold clamping moment
before it breaks.
6.3.6 Groundings
Check that measuring and automation circuit groundings have been
made in accordance with cable Charts.
Check that high voltage circuit groundings have been made in
accordance with cable charts and/or regulations issued by classification
institution.
6.3.9 Readjustments
Approximately after a week from installation all screw and bolt fittings
6.4.1 General
Three-phase squirrel cage motors correspond with the "Rules for
electrical machines" according to IEC Publication 72 Edition 1971.
A. TRANSPORT
The motors are packed adequately for road or rail transport. Any
damage during transport should be noted immediately at the arrival of
the motors and must be confirmed by the transport company
concerned, since the latter is liable for such damage. Damage during
transport is not subject to the guarantee.
Should the motor be tested elsewhere before care must be taken that
the pressure devices is refitted before the motor is transported or that
the motor is locked by means of the transmission element or machine
part which has been fitted in the meantime.
B. VENTILATION
1. IP 56-machines
2. IP 23,44,54-machines
Motors have ventilator on the motor shaft. The distance between air
intake and wall or other machinery must be at least d/4 of the air intake
opening. Cooling air flows towards the 0-end. Air leaving the motor
must not be drawn again by the fan. Keep cover clean
• C. CONDENSATION DRAIN
D. EX-MACHINES
EX-NOTE: Plug up drain hole after each inspection, same is also with
IP 56-machines.
A. TRANSMISSION ELEMENTS
Fitting itself must be carried out with great care and attention so that
neither blows nor pressure are transmitted to the bearings. The belt
pulley or coupling can be fitted slowly and carefully with the help of a
simple tool and the threaded end of the shaft extension as shown by
the illustration . Motors are dynamically balanced with complete key
B. ALIGNMENT
When the motor is connected to the driven machine via a coupling, the
shafts must be aligned radically and axially to each other. the dial
indicators must be reliably secured. Measurements to be taken at four
points, displaced by 90 degrees each, while both coupling halves are
turned simultaneously. The following permissible deviations are
effective values. In this case, the differences shown by the dial
indicators are 0,06 mm.
C. ANGULAR ALIGNMENT
D. PARALLEL ALIGNMENT

4. Bearing seals
Before installing new felt rings they must be impregnated with high
viscosity oil at a temperature of 80 C. The ring must easily slide on the
shaft, but without play. Seals and V-rings can be pushed into place e.g.
by means of a screw driver while turning the shaft.
5. Dismantling
6. Assembly
1. Clean bearing sea~ with a suitable cleaner, inspect for damage and
check the bearing seat dimensions by means of a micrometer screw
after the shaft has cooled down. (Fitting dimensions refer to a
temperature of 20 C).
2. Remove old grease from bearing covers (8) and (19), wash them out,
• using a suitable cleanser and, after drying, pack with the proper type of
grease and put them back on the shaft.
3. Heat new bearings in an oil bath (or by induction with subsequent
demagnetisation) to 80-90 C and slide them on the shaft. Fill up voids
with grease after the bearing has cooled down.
4. Push on and fasten slinger (3) and (22)n circlip (23) and clamp (2).
5. For ease of assembly, insert 100-mm long studs into endshields
(10/11) or (21) to engage in bearing covers (8) or (19); fix endshields in
place.
6. Wash bearing covers (1) and (24) in a suitable cleanser and, after
drying, fix to the endshields.
7. Install bearing seals (9a) and (18), as described.
8. Mount fan (28) on the shaft (metal fans are heated for this purpose),
put circlip (30) back, and mount fan cover (31 ) .

A. GENERAL REPAIRS
This is work which does not affect the explosion protection and which
is, therefore, not subject to special regulations, e.g.
Repair of motor feet
Replacement of gaskets or joints
Repair or replacement of fan and fan cover
Replacement of bearings
Replacement of terminal board
B. SPECIAL REPAIRS
This is work which can affect the explosion protection, e.g. work on
stator or rotor windings. Unless the repair is carried out by manufacturer
the proper execution of the work in accordance with the relevant
regulations must be certified by an authorised expert and/or be
indicated by a special certification plate on the monitor.
When ordering spare parts we would ask you to keep strictly to the part
nomenclature as given in the following list Stating the type and factory
number to be found on the motor plate. With bearings, do not forget to
state the radial clearance group symbol, e.g. C3 or C4 in addition to the
bearing designation. Both are stamped on the bearing built in.

• 6.5.6 Storage
If the motors are closed down or stored as a substitute for more then 2
years the bearings must also be cleaned and lubricated again before
they are put into operation. Moreover, also the insulation resistance
should be measured. It may not fall below 1 Meg-Ohm, In case of low
test values it is necessary to dry up the winding of the motor and to
impregnate it again .
Start the electric motor and check the pressure at pressure gauge no 26.

Electric motors
Insulation resistance and services must be checked before use. This
resistance must not be lower than 1 Mega Ohm. If values are below
this, attempts must be made to dry the motor by switching standby

• 6.8. 7 Liftings
When lifted up use only marked lift points and officially accepted and
inspected lifting devised .
6.9.1 General
These instructions are intended for the shipyard's installation crew for
the installation and start-up of deck machinery on ships.
Read also the special instructions for electric and hydraulic equipment
included in the use and maintenance manual. Long life and trouble-free
operation can be ensured only if the machinery is installed by an
experienced crew in accordance with established installation practice.
All the necessary instructions and drawings are to be found in the use
and maintenance manuals .
6.9.2 Lifting
All pieces of equipment should be lifted and moved with care using the
lifting ears.
NOTEI The lifting eyes of individual components may not be used for
lifting the whole unit (such as the lifting eye of the electric motor).
The length and position of the cables and lifting belts will have to be
checked before lifting to avoid any damage to covers, tubing and similar
components during lifting.
All gearbox hatches and terminal box lids have to be kept closed and
watertight.
••
Any condensate has to be removed immediately .
the maximum loads and their directions are shown on the dimensional
•
drawings of each winch .
2. Special attention has to be paid to the rigidity of the deck when two
separate units are coupled by means of a claw clutch (such as a
mooring winch/cable. lifter unit) or when the winch has a particularly
long main shaft (such as a mooring winch with 2 or 3 drums).
The deck under this type of winches will have to be stiffened over the
total area of the winches also in the direction of the main shaft to
ensure that deck deflection is uniform over the entire length of the main
shaft.
B. Leveling requirements
The winch foundations welded to the deck are leveled using an optical
measuring instrument, leveling rulers, wires, etc .
Take one of the mounting feet as a starting point and measure the
deviation of every other foot relative to this. Prepare machined
installation pieces and place them under each mounting foot to make
the winch level, or fillet with epoxy depending which is allowed in
dimensional drawing.
Check the alignment of bearing blocks relative to the main shaft line.
Tighten the bolts, which are fitted with washers, and lock them in place
using double nuts or similar.
•
2. Winches with machined mounting flange
The base must be rigid enough to avoid any deformation in the opening
due to welding.
Lift the winch in place and check the fixing surfaces using a feeler
gauge.
After lifting the winch units in place, check the misalignment and end
play ofthe driving clutch between them (see drawing, 6402615)
• D. Stopper plates
NOTE! If the rope can be paid out and retrieved in both directions or if
the winch is equipped with the warping end, stoppers will have to be
installed on both sides of the winch.
The stoppers are installed so that they are in contact with the mounting
feet along the entire length of the foot. a schematic proposal is given in
dimensional drawings .
The anchor plates for band brakes are fixed to the deck or the
foundations by welding the anchor pin in· a horizontal position (the holes
in the plates have to be at the same height).
Depending on the force acting on the anchor plates, the strength of the
welded joint will have to be checked on a case-by-case basis. If
necessary, the plates have to be supported by bends above or below
the deck.
If the anchor plates are longer than necessary, excess material is cut
off in connection with installation .
To adjust the support, the brake band is tightened and the play
between the holder screw and the band is adjusted as shown in the
drawing. After adjustment the screw is locked in position.
6.9.6 Welding
When welding winch components to the deck, the workpiece must first
be earth connected via the ship's deck.
Attach the earth cable to the workpiece while ensuring that the welding
•
current cannot pass through the bearing or sliding surfaces to the
workpiece.
If the winch is fitted with inductive pulse sensors (for measuring chain
or rope length or speed) or inductive limit switches (cable lifter's claw
clutch), they should first be disconnected at the terminal block before
starting on any welding job.
The electric or hydraulic motor must always have a protective bar if the
rope line passes over it. ·
•
- Remove the covers on sliding surfaces and any clamps and support
used in transportation.
- Clean the open gearwheels, sliding surfaces and brake spindles using
a suitable solvent to remove all impurities and lubricate the components
immediately after washing.
The protective oil on gearwheels inside the encased gearbox need not
be removed by washing, if'they have not got dirty.
- Remove any condensate from inside the gearbox and add oil to oil-
lubricated gearboxes up to the halfway point of the inspection glass.
Winch operation:
- Start operation with all the claw clutches disconnected. Then connect
the clutches one by one.
- Make sure that the band brakes are not shaking. If they are, check
that the brakes are sufficiently open and that the brake holders are
correctly adjusted.
- Check the bearing temperatures and the noise of the winch while
running .
Special attention must be paid out to the piping. Only trained staff to be
used for design and installation of the piping.
The pipes must be design for the flow and pressure mentioned in the
pipe diagram. They should be as short as possible and sharp bends to
be avoided. Pipes are not to allowed to transfer mechanical stress to the
equipment. The pipes must be well supported to prevent vibrations .
6.10.2 Cutting
Pipe cutting must be done with a grinding wheel or saw, not cutting
torch.
• 6.10.3 Laying
Pipe lines are to be laid in the shortest and direct way from pump to
winch. Where are necessary, the greatest possible radius to be used.
Note:
For cooling purpose min. pipe length 40 m is needed for each system!
6.10.4 Cleaning
•
After polishing, pipe sections should be placed in a acid bath. The
condition of the pipes will determine how long the acid path last. Finish
by hosing down with fresh water an alkaline bath (approx. 8.5 pH ).
After through drying with hot air, check visually that inside surface is
totally clean and apply protective oil to pipes and blank off openings to
prevent entry of dirt.
Note:
Sand or shot-blasting of internal pipe surfaces is not acceptable!
The location of the pump units are to chose with a wiew to maintenance.
A certain extra space to be left around the components.
After assembling of the unit, the aligment of flexible coupling to be
checked .
6.11.1 Installation
Installation is carried out according to the hydraulic pipe diagram of the
system.
Special attention must be paid out to the piping. Only trained staff may
be used for design and the installation of the piping.
The pipes must be desinged for the flow and pressure mentioned in the
pipe diagram. They should be as short as possible and sharp bends
•
have to be avoided. No pipe is allowed to transfer mechanical stress to
the equipments. The pipes must be well supported to prevent
vibrations.
Check that the oil used for filling is clean and conform to the oil
recommendation.
Fill the oil via F connection ( in the filter ) of the power pack, so oil flows
throught the return filter into the tank. -
Fill the caseings of hydraulic motors with clean hydraulic oil. The filling
is done by removeing the drain pipe ( uppest drain connection ) .
- the pipelines and the components are correctly connected in the lines.
- insulation resistances of electric motors
- the shut-off valves in suction lines of the pumps are fully open
-the cases of the main pumps are full of oil ( lose the drain hose, the
uppest hose in pump case )
-the oil lever in the tank is above MIN mark
- the oil level switch is connected and will stop the electric motors if the
oil level lower below the limit level
Start the electric motor momentairily so that it rotates and check the
direction of rotation indicated with the arrow is correct .
Start the pumps one at time and rotate the pump momentairly ( 3.. 5
seconds) few times and check that the pump starts to pump.
6.11.6 Bleeding
Bleeding is performed at lowest possible pressure.
2. The oil used for the flushing must be suitable for cleaning and
antirusting. It must also be compatible with the hydraulic oil,
which will be used in the system.
• 4.
5.
Flushing is carried out in one pipeline at a time with a separate
flushing aggregate.
• 8.
correct value 60 ... 70oc.
During flushing the piping must be hammered e.g. by a lead
hammer to make all foreign pieces loosen from the piping.
Special attention must be paid to welded seams. If the
hammering is left undone the flushing effect will be greatly
reduced.
10. Take oil samples from the piping and the oil reservoir. When the
cleanliness of the piping is class 18/13 of ISO/DIS 4406, NAS
1638 class 8, flushing may be stopped.
• 11. When the flushing has stopped, drain the piping and connect
the actuators, valves and the aggregate to the piping.
This working must be carried out with absolute cleanliness.

Normally the system uses mineral oil based hydraulic oils with good
lubrication characteristics and a viscosity suitable for the running
temperature. This decreases wear and guarantees an infalliable and
efficient operation of the system.
• Passing below the viscosity limit can result in damaged motor and
certainly will reduce lifetime of the radial piston type hydraulic motor.

•
Check the min and max allowed operating temperatures of the system
after the oil is selected .
During the adjustment, start the pump and tighten the drum brake in
order to load the winch.
Put the pressure gauge to the test nipple MP and check the pressure.
1. MOORING WINCHES
- adjust the valve if necessary by removing the cover and loosening the
lock nut
- pressure increases when the adjusting screw is turned
clockwise and decreases when the it is turned anti-
clockwise
- after the adjustment tighten the lock nut and turn in the cover
-adjust the valve V13 by removing the cover and loosening the lock nut
-changing pressure increases when the adjusting screw is turned anti-
clockwise and decreases when it is turned clockwise
-after adjustment tighten the lock nut, fill the cover with grease and turn it
in
Max. force for the cable lifter I drum - pressure relief valve ( V5 )
During adjustment the winch is loaded by the band brake of the cable
lifter and the pressure relief valve ( V5 ) should be adjusted.
•
- the pressure increases when the adjusting screw is turned clockwise
and
decreases anti clockwise
- after the adjustment tight the lock nut and turn in the cover
-adjust the valve V13 by removing the cover and loosening the lock nut
-changing pressure increases when the adjusting screw is turned anti-
clockwise and decreases when it is turned clockwise
-after adjustment tighten the lock nut, fill the cover with grease and turn it
in
2. ROUTINE MAINTENANCE
•
- there are no leagages in the power unit
- suction valves are fully open
In the case the indicator shows the glogging, the filter element must be
changed during next stopping.
NOTE: Glogged filter alarm may occur during starting in cold conditions,
this does not mean that the element to be change.
Installation
•
The heater exchanger can be installed horizontally or vertically. It's
secured on pre-mounted bracets. If installed vertically, do not allow
the heat exchanger to drain while the system is not operating.
Tubes when being installed, may not be under tension. Inlet and
outlet connections can be interchanged. Make sure the two fluids
are charged in counterflow (see figure above).
If the maximum pressures i.e. pressure peaks do not exceed the
given operation pressures it can be installed in the oil return lines.
Short temporary pressure peaks will not be reduced by the pressure
relief valve. If pressure peaks in excess of the given operating
pressure can be expected a separate circulating pump must be
provided.
Service
•
"Parozink (2)". Allow this solvent to act. at room temperature
(approximately 20 °C) for appr. 30 minutes. Drain solvent, rince with
water and dry as for oil side cleaning.
Remarks
With a new winch the first oil change is necessary after 200 operation
hours and after that about 1,000 operation hours' intervals. Should the
•
lubrication ability of the oil, for one reason or the another, be
deteriorated because of, e.g., foaming, water condensation or the like,
before these operation hours have passed the the oil is to be changed.
The lubrication ability of the oil is to be checked or the oil is to be
changed not less than once annually. It is most important that the oil
used is so-called E.P. oil, preferably one of the qualities recommended.

Rauma USE AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL
WINCHES Ref Nos: 514·4081,4085,4088,.067
• 4.
5.
Disengage the chain stopper.
Release the cable lifter band brake.
6. Lower the anchor to the sea surface. The speed must be carefully
controlled by control lever.
7. Tighten the band brake.
The operator's task is to maintain proper speed with the help of the
brake. TOO HIGH SPEED IS ABSOLUTE AVOIDED!
3. When the sufficient length of cable is out, stop the cable by tightening
the brake. Don't stop the cable too quickly because the shock may
cause great stresses on the cable as on the cable unit.
NOTE: Claw clutch has to be disconnected, because if the band
brake is not properly tightened, it may slide a little due to wind load or
rolling of waves, while the vessel is in anchor. If the clutch is kept
connected, the stresses of anchor chain could damage gears or other
transmission parts
• ValveV16
In order to achieve the specified performances, make sure that you have
enough power pack pumps running.
Winch nominal force is for one drum, if there are more drums in use
the force will drop correspondingly
The operator can choose either remote control or the local control,
but the remote control is recommended in normal every day use. If
local control is used the levers of the winch have to be at normal
(center) position on both remote control stands.
1. Connect the claw clutch of actual drum by pushing the control lever.
If necessary rotate the motor slowly to synchronize the clutch.
4. To haul in, turn the control lever slowly to haul in position, the
speed is increasing correspondingly.
5. To stop the winch, center the lever slowly by hand. The lever is
spring centered, but it's not recommended to release the lever
suddenly by the force of the spring.
6. To pay out, push the control lever slowly in pay out position, the
speed is increasing correspondingly.
7. When the operation of the winch is over, engage the drum brake
•
and disengage the claw clutch .
Put the rope on warping end so that the haul-in direction is same as
on the drum. If the rope goes below the drum it has to be same way
on the warping end .
When using the auto speed, the speed range will change
automatically according the load. In this range the winch will start at
high speed and when the load will rice bigger than the changing
point of the valve it will change the speed at low speed range
automatic. When the load will decrease enough the speed will
change automatically from low speed to high speed.
In low speed range the mooring winch has it's max. force and
nominal speed, The high speed is for slack rope .
