The rafflesia arnoldi is the biggest flower in the world. It is unusual because of its large size.
The flower is almost 100 centimeters in diameter and 140 centimeters in height. "Rafflesia" is
derived from the name of the British Governor General, Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles, who once
governed and built the Botanical Garden in Bogor. Though it is called Rafflesia after Raffles, the man
who discovered the plant was Beccary, an Italian botanist who visited Sumatra in 1928.
Rafflesia consists of two parts: the stick-like part which grows in the middle and the petals
around and below it. While the flower is blossoming, it has a very unpleasant smell which affects
insects, especially green flies. They seem eager to explore the flower. But if the flies touch the
bottom part of the sticklike centre, they die.

Suramadu bridge is also known as the Surabaya-Madura bridge with three cable-stayed
sections constructed between Surabaya and on the island of Java and the town of Bangkalan on the
island of Madura in Indonesia. The width of the bridge o\is 30 meters, while its height is 146 meters.
It carries motors vehicles. Opened on June 10, 2009, and the 5.4 km bridge is the longest in

Monas, National Monument is a 132-meters tower in the center of Merdeka Square, Central
Jakarta, Indonesia. Jakarta is the capital city of Indonesia. It symbolizes the struggle for Indonesian
independence of our country. The monument consists of a 117.7 m obelisk on a 45m square
platform at a height of 17 m. Towering monument symbolizes the philosophy of Lingga and Yoni.
Resembles a phallus, or pestle mortar pestle and Yoni resembles rice or mortar, two important
things in the tradition of Indonesian agriculture. The Monument Construction was began in 1961
under the direction of President Sukarno, the first president of Indonesian Republic and the

EQUATOR MONUMENT
Equator Monument is icon of Pontianak. As we know that Pontianak is one of the city in the
world which pass by equator line. It marks the division between the northern and southern
hemispheres. Equator Monument is located in Khatulistiwa Street, Pontianak Utara subdistrict West
Kalimantan. It is about 30 minutes from the Capital city.
The Monument was built in 1928, it has been recontruction for 3 times. The original
monument is actually small. It is located inside the big Monument. The monument consists of four
iron wood poles, each with a diameter of about 0,30 metre, with frontage bollard height is two
pieces as high as 3,05 radian place backside bollard and the signpost dart as high as 4,40 metres.
Entering the room in the Equator Monument, visitors will see the photos displayed on the walls of
this building. These photographs date from the 1930s to the present. In addition, there is also an
explanation of the knowledge of the world of astronomy, such as data on the earth, solar system,
stars, moon, sun and galaxies. Relief paintings depicting Pontianak City and the Equator Monument
also adorn the walls in this building.
Every year, many tourist visit this monument. They are interested in watching an Important
and amazing events around the Equator Monument names “Culmination”. This natural phenomenon
happens when the sun is right on the equator. At that time the position of the sun will be directly
above the head, thus removing all shadows of objects on the surface of the earth. At the culmination
