Instructions to Students:
The assessment of the case study consists of two elements, a written report and an oral
presentation.
WRITTEN REPORT
This assignment requires the students to study the case and answer the following questions:
1. What are the central challenges facing the EMI management team? (15 marks)
2. It seems like this dividend decision is a big deal. Do shareholders generally prefer firms that
pay dividends? Why is this dividend decision so important to EMI? (30 marks)
3. What dividend policy would you recommend for EMI and why? (25 marks)
Note: Please support your answer with proper justifications, calculations, theories, empirical
evidence, etc., wherever relevant.

4. This assignment should be type written in MS Word (Times New Roman-Font size 12),
with 1.5 spacing. Your report should comprise approximately 2,500 words (excluding
tables, footnotes, figures, references and appendices) and a margin of difference of 10%
(i.e. ± 250 words) is allowed. Please include the word count in your report.
ORAL PRESENTATION
You are required to present your case findings during tutorial. You are given 10 minutes to
present and another 5 minutes for the question and answer session. It is compulsory for each
member to present. A copy of the power point slides and the assessment criteria for oral
presentation must be submitted during the presentation.
