BK3: Peer Pressure: Write a Reflective Blog on how you resisted peer pressure to
prioritize your studies.

Throughout my life, I have been taught of the difference between the good and
bad, the worthy or wasteful acts, respect and disrespectful behaviors, constructive and
destructive decisions that may greatly impact the outcomes that I will be facing in my
life. On the other hand, we cannot erase the fact that we cannot resist to some
temptation especially around your peers. This temptation may be positive or negative
effect to a person.

As a college student, and a teenager, it is a mere fact that temptations to explore

new things is one of the dilemmas that we are experiencing. In addition, the presence of
your peers is one of the main things that drives you to those new things whether it might
or might not benefit for you and your peer. In my experience, resisting to peer pressure
is one of the hard things I can’t resist. As a person who always want to try and explore
things around my environment, I can’t always say no to it and sometimes, I started the
peer pressure. However, on the other note, those things do not affect me and my
friends academic because we know our responsibility both as a teenager and a student.
“Party Boy” people call me that because weekly, I always ask my friends to follow me to
party and drink just to chill after a stressful week. But this should not affect our
academic life, I said. I once told them that it is better to say no if there are something to
do, whether it is on your private life or academic because our priority is to study and
have fun whenever we are free. I took that seriously and yet, not bragging, we, my
friends still manage to ace a high grade because we know our responsibilities and we
know how and when to stop if something might bring negative effect to all of us.

Another peer pressure that I always experience that I can’t say no to, is cutting
classes just to chill in a billiards lounge. However, we do cut classes when we know that
there is nothing to do, like quizzes, activities, and recitations, with that said class we
intend to cut class with. Moreover, this does not jeopardize our academic life because
we know what we are about to do; in fact, my parents know what I am doing with
partying and cutting classes. The only warning that I get, “Don’t give me a failing grade
and go home as a human”. I took that seriously and yet I never fail that warning, in fact,
I exceed their expectations. With that being said, that is how me and my friends handle
peer pressure; by knowing our responsibilities and knowing when and where to stop is
something will not bring us any good and will put us in danger.
My take with this notion? Is not about romanticizing to not to resist with peer
pressure. This is all about me saying that we can be somehow be influenced by peer
pressure but before saying yes, try to evaluate first your limit and responsibility. Ask
these questions first; Will this thing will affect my studies? Is it safe? Who’s with me?
With that we can have fun without jeopardizing our academic life.
