Peace and Conflict-Cambridge Checkpoint Report_

Is War an inevitable part of being human?

· Introduction

All Wars happen because of human beings. We naturally

disagree over some things, and when wars happen, we all
become overcome by our strong opinions and the urge to get
what we want out of the situation, whatever it may be.

Global Perspective

Peace and Conflict are taking the world by storm. The more us
Human Beings fight, The more we become divided and our
opinions differ more. Countries like the United States have
been involved in a lot of wars. We’ve had World Wars 1 and 2,
the two biggest wars the world has ever had. Major Countries
such as the United States, Germany, Great Britain, The
Ottoman Empire (Present-day Turkey), Austria-Hungary, and
Italy. World War 1 lasted from 1914 – 1918. World War 2 lasted
from 1941 – 1945. Since then, the world has faced several events
in which it thought it would lead up to World War 3, yet it
hasn’t happened. We have been trying to heal the world from all
it’s past scars because of war, but we have not yet succeeded.
The good news though, is that we are making more effort to
bring about peace in this world. Several world leaders and
organizations have been making peace happen slowly and step
by step. Places such as Syria, Iraq, and Palestine have been
fighting wars of their own. According to cfr. Org, In the Syria
war, there are 500 U.S troops, 5.6 million Syrian refugees, and
6.2 million internally displaced people in Syria.
· National Perspective

Some countries are shaping the world in bad ways. The United
States for one, was and still getting involved in a lot of wars and
starting their own on top of it. They have been involved in wars
practically since their existence. The world has been dominated
by America for a while. The U.S is not an empire but more of
just a dominant force. A lot of countries are against the U.S
politically. This is because the U.S sometimes messes things up.
For example, the U.S has broken alliances, invaded countries
that they have been scared of, imposed sanctions, had wars, and
had presidents that did ridiculous things in their presidency.
The U.S. was always the one that always had the best military
forces, technology, and economy. According to
freakonometrics.hypothesis.org, The U.S has been at war for
225 out of 243 years of existence! This is an example of how war
can come naturally to human beings.

· Different Perspectives:

The difference in perspectives differs from one country to

another. For example, as mentioned before, the world has had
World War 1 and World War 2 , and lots of times faced
situations that have made us all think that World War 3 would
be just around the corner. Countries like the United States and
Syria have been in conflict politically. The U.S has the strongest
military in the world and a booming economy. On the opposite
side Syria has a failing economy and has a weaker military.

· Source Evaluation
“According to cfr. Org, In the Syria war, there are 500 U.S
troops, 5.6 million Syrian refugees, and 6.2 million internally
displaced people in Syria.”

I think this source is unbiased because it came from an

organization. It is an also relatively true statement, but then
again, these estimates could have increased.

“According to freakonmetrics.hypothesis.org, the U.S.A has

been at war for 225 years out of 243 years of existence!”

- I think this source is unbiased because it has been counted

over the years and it is true that the U.S.A has been at peace for
only 18 years in the 243 years it’s existed.

“The U.S is more powerful than Syria.”

- This source is biased because it is mostly opinionated. Some

people might think this true, but other not! Just because the
U.S has a powerful military and excellent economy, doesn’t
mean that it is better than Syria in all ways.

· Problem Solving (National or local course of action)

The U.S was and is getting involved in a lot of wars. It’s a

problem for us Americans since it harms our relationship with
other countries. I think the biggest problem here though is the
U.S government.

The solutions are as follows:

1- Mobilizing the people against war.

2- Empowering the NGO’s.

3- Raising awareness about the benefits of peace.

4- Raising taxes on weapon manufacturers.

· Conclusion

Yes, I can conclude that wars are an inevitable part of being

human. My own perspective has changed vastly. Cfr.org and
freakonmetrics.hypothesis.org have taught me so many
different things. First of all, these websites have made me see
all the more that people feel the urge to fight for what they
think is right. This all begins when someone in their heart feel
that it is the right time to do all this. Basically it is all just self
instinct! Second of all, I feel even more for countries like Syria.
They had to go through all this war and they still kind of are
going through this. Third of all, I now feel like there is maybe
some hope left for the world. People are making peace with
each other every day, and are making Earth a better place little
by little and I hope this world will get rid of every human
being’s desire for war, And I know in my heart that it will
happen in time.
