DJJ 40153 PNEUMATIC AND HYDRAULICS

EXPERIMENT : 2
TITLE : SEQUENCE CONTROL OF MULTIPLE ACTUATORS(ELECTRO
PNEUMATIC)
DURATION : 2 HOURS
PAGE : 1 0F 4

1.0 Experiment outcome

1.1 Understand the principle of a basic electro pneumatic system
1.2 Assemble and control of multiple actuators in electro-pneumatic system.

2.0 Theory
Implementation of an electro pneumatic control system entails:
Procuring all necessary components
Installing the control system
Programming (if a PLC is being used)
Commissioning the control system
The following items must be available before installing the control system:
Complete circuit diagrams and terminal diagrams
All electrical and pneumatic components in accordance with the parts list

In order to prevent errors being made in assembly, tube connection and wiring, the
work is carried out in a fixed, invariable sequence. One possibility, for example, is
always to connect the tubing in the pneumatic power section starting from the power
supply via the valves through to the cylinders.

In sequence control systems, the storage of signals is an essential feature. It can be

accomplished by means of either latching relays or double solenoid valves. The design of
a circuit with signal storage by double solenoid valves is explained in the following.

Figure 1: Positioning sketch of feeding device.

The positional sketch of a feeding device is shown in Figure 1. The end positions of the
two cylinder drives 1A and 2A are detected by the positive switching inductive proximity
switches 1B1 and 2B2.

4.0 Safety Precautions

4.1 Make sure the student follow the laboratory or workshop safety regulators.
4.2 Experiment must be conduct by lecturers or experience lab assistance
4.3 All pneumatic hose must be fit properly
4.4 Pneumatic pressure do not exceed 6 bar
4.5 Precaution as electrical apparatus is used.

5.0 Procedures
5.1 Draw the circuit step diagram for A+, B+, A-, B-.
5.2 Draw the time motion diagram for A+, B+, A-, B-.
5.3 By using the given pneumatic valves and electrical components, assembly the
circuit based on Figure 2.

5.6 Press the Push button and release, record the sequence of movement and make
sure it matches with circuit step diagram.
5.6 Write down your observation.

6.0 Results/Data
What happen after pressed push button? Explain the sequence movement of both cylinder
by using Signal Flow Diagram and Time Motion Diagram.

7.0 Discussion
7.1 If you are required to use 1 unit of relay, where it will be allocated? Please
provide a complete schematic diagram for your answer.
7.2 Compare to pure pneumatic circuit, which type of design are easier to construct
and modify? Why?

8.0 Conclusion and Recommendation

Deduce a conclusion from the result shown and from your observation.
