YOU WILL NEED:

1. Hook: 2 mm (US B) or according to the yarn.
2. Cotton yarn in white color, some red and orange color calling for 2 mm hook (US B).
In all my projects I use 100% mercerized cotton yarn Camilla Madame Tricote. [Weight: Fingering,
Yardage: 134 yards (123 meters), Unit weight: 50 grams (1.76 ounces)].
3. Tapestry needle (blunt needle with a large eye) to weave in ends and sew the single pieces of the
Chickaletta together.
4. Soft stuffing (like cotton wool, fiberfill, etc.).
5. Stitch marker and scissors.
6. Two plastic eyes with security lock (8 mm) or larger if you use larger hook or thicker yarn. You can also
use two black beads or some black felt scrap.

You should crochet very tightly and stuff your toy very firmly. If the stitches stretch too much and the
cotton wool/ fiberfill is clearly visible, you should choose a smaller hook.

Chickaletta measures approx. 4 inches (10 cm) tall and 2,8 inches (7 cm) long when done with
fingering weight yarn and size B (2 mm) crochet hook. Of course final toy measurements will change with
yarn or hook substitution. It works well in any type of yarn.

This pattern is worked in rounds in a continuous spiral of stitches (except comb, beak and legs). Work
rounds in both loops unless specified otherwise. Remember to stuff as you go and shape as you stuff.

BODY WITH HEAD – white yarn
Remember to fill in the stuffing material while you are working out the body decreases. When the body is
finished it is harder to stuff it firmly, because of the small opening at the end.

Special techniques:
1. Changing color:

1. Work to the point where there are two loops of the last stitch before the color change remaining on the hook.
2. Drop the old color, yarn over and complete the stitch with the new color.

2. Closing the hole of remaining stitches:

1. After your last st cut the yarn and draw the tail through the loop on your hook. The tail should be about 6 inches
(15 cm) long. Thread it onto a tapestry needle.
2. Then insert the needle under the front loops of remaining stitches (going from the center to the outside).
3. Pull the yarn tightly to close the hole.
4. Insert the needle through that small closed hole in the center and bring it out couple of rows away. Pull the yarn
tight once again to hide the bump.
