• Worsted Weight Yarn – Red (about 250 yds), White (about 100 yds)
• J (6mm) Crochet Hook
• Tapestry Needle
• 6 – 8 oz Fiberfill Stuffing
• Small, Sharp Scissors
• Large, Blunt Tapestry Needle
SPECIAL STITCHES:
Make an adjustable ring: Leaving a tail at the beginning, anchored between little finger
and ring finger, wrap thread around index finger and middle finger of left hand (counter-
clockwise if you look with the tips of your fingers facing you). Insert hook underneath
first strand of yarn, then catch second strand with hook and pull a loop up underneath
first strand. Remove fingers of left hand from ring and hold working end of yarn. Chain
2, work number of stitches required into ring. Pull up a long loop, then, grasping the
stitches just made with right hand and tail with left (or vice versa), pull to tighten ring.
Insert hook into long loop and tighten back against hook. Making sure tail is to the back,
skip first chains worked and continue working pattern.

• Thread the long end onto a tapestry needle. With the bottom of the center bud toward
you, begin wrapping the 1st petal counter-clockwise around the bottom of the center
bud, tacking it in place to the lower lps of the bud as you go. Continue to wrap the
petals around clockwise in a spiral formation, tacking the beginning-ch edge of each
wrap to the lower lps of the previous wrap all the way to the end of the last petal.

• Form small rose using the same method used for large rose.

positions (see photos for idea). Pull all loose yarn ends through to the back of the

• Ch 26 with white; FO, leaving long end for sewing ch to heart. Pin in place,
beginning underneath the rose, and running down at an angle toward the lower side
edge of the heart. Still using white, make 3 more chains, each one just long enough to
reach from the bottom edge of one of the buds to the rose stem (see photo). Pin the
chains in place.

• Sew stem chains, buds, rose, and leaves in place. I like to use a back stitch sewn right
down the middle of the chain to attach the stems.
• Sew the small rose in place over the area where the 4 stems meet (see photo).
