General Instructions :

(i) All questions are compulsory.


(ii) Figures to the right indicate full marks for that Section.
(iii) Question no. 32 and 36 to be done on graph paper only.
(iv) Section A contains 20 questions carrying 1 mark each.
(v) Section B contains 6 questions carrying 2 marks each.
(vi) Section C contains 6 questions carrying 4 marks each.
(vii) Section D contains 4 questions carrying 6 marks each.

(viii) Use of calculator is not permitted.

(ix) The name, class and section, page number should be written on the top of each
sheet.

SECTION A (20)

1. Write the following set in the Roster form


A= { x : x is a two digit number such that the sum of its digits is 8 }
2. Write the following set in set builder form :
B = { 5, 25, 125, 625 }
3. Is the set C = { x : x is a natural number , x <5∧x >7 } a null set ? Why ?
4. Examine whether A and B are equal sets
A = {2, 4, 6, 8, 10 } and B = { x : x is a positive even integer and x ≤ 10 }.
5. If X = { a, b, c, d } and Y = { f, b, d, g }, then find X −Y .
6. If A X B = { ( a , x ) , ( a , y ) , ( b , x ) , ( b , y ) }. Find A and B.
7. Write the relation R={( x , x 3 ) : x is a prime number less than 10 } in Roster form.
8. Let A={ a , b , c }∧B= {3 , 4 } . Find the number of relations ¿ A ¿ B .
9. If the ordered pairs ( x−1 , y+ 3 )∧(2 , x +4 ) are equal then find x∧ y .
10. Is the relation R={( 1 ,1 ) , ( 2 ,2 ) , ( 3 ,3 ) , ( 4 , 4 ) , ( 4 ,5 ) } a function ? Why ?
11. Write the conjugate of the complex number z=−5−3 i.
12. Express the complex number z=1−2i 2 ∈the a+ib form .
13. Evaluate (1+i) 4 .
14. Find the modulus of the complex number z=2−3i .
15. Evaluate i 73 .
16. Solve 5 x−3<3 x +1 when x is an integer .
17. Solve 4 x+3< 6 x+7 for real x .
18. Solve 5 x−3<7 when x is an integer .
19. Solve −12 x>30 when x is a natural number .
20. Solve 7 x +3<5 x+ 9 . Show the graph of the solutions on the number line.

21. Write down the power set of A = { 1, 2, 3 }.


22. Draw a Venn diagram for the set ( A ∪ B)' .
23. Find the range of the function f ( x )=x 2 +2 , x is a real number.
24. Determine the Domain and range of the relation R defined by
R={( x , x +7 ) : x ∈ { 0 ,1 , 2 ,3 , 4 ,5 } }.
25. Find the multiplicative inverse of z=4−3i .
26. Solve the inequalities for real x

SECTION C (24)

27. In a survey of 600 students in a school, 150 students were found to be taking tea and
225 taking coffee, 100 were taking both tea and coffee. Find how many students
were neither taking tea nor coffee?
28. The function ‘t’ which maps temperature in degree Celsius into temperature in degree

33. In a group of children, 45 play football, out of which 30 play football only, 28
play hockey; 25 play cricket, out of which 11 play cricket only. Further 7 play
Cricket and Football but not Hockey, 5 play Football and Hockey but not Cricket
and 10 play Football and Cricket both. Represent the above information by Venn
Diagram. Find (i) How many play all three games ?
(ii) How many play Hockey only?
(iii) How many children are there in the group ?

34. Find the Domain and Range of the real valued functions defined by
