1-An 8-ft-long tank open to the atmosphere initially contains 3-ft-

high water. While being towed by a truck on a level road, the truck
applies on the brakes and the water level at the front rises 0.5 ft
above the initial level. Determine the deceleration of the truck.

2-A fish tank that contains 40-cm-high water is moved in the cabin
of an elevator. Determine the pressure at the bottom of the tank
when the elevator is (a) stationary, (b) moving up with an upward
acceleration of 3 m/s2, and (c) moving down with a downward
acceleration of 3 m/s2.

3-A 60-cm-high, 40-cm-diameter cylindrical water tank is being

transported on a level road. The highest acceleration anticipated is
4 m/s2. Determine the allowable initial water height in the tank if
no water is to spill out during acceleration and the pressure along
the bottom of the tank.

4- A tank 3m height contain oil (s.g = 0.8) its surface below the
upper edge of the tank by 1m. If the length of the tank is 8m,
calculate the maximum horizontal acceleration to pulley the tank
without spill the oil from the tank and the pressure along the
bottom of the tank.

5- An open circular tank of 1m and 0.3 m diameter contains 588.6

N of water. If the cylinder is rotated about its axis, what is the
maximum angular velocity so that no water spills? Find the
difference in total pressure (i) at the bottom of the cylinder (ii) at
the side of the cylinder due to rotation.
6- A circular cylinder containing liquid of S.G.1.2 is rotated about
a vertical axis. The pressure at a point 60 cm radially from the axis
is the same as at another point 1.2 m from the axis and at an
elevation 60 cm higher. Determine the speed of rotation of the
cylinder.

7- A vertical cylindrical tank 2m and 1m in diameter is filled with

water to depth of 1.7 m. the tank is then closed and the pressure in
the space above the water raised to 6.86 kN/m2. Determine the
pressure at the corner of the tank bottom when the tank is rotated
about vertical axis of the tank at 150 rpm.

8- If a cylinder is 8 cm in diameter and 10 cm deep and is exactly

half full of water, find the speed of rotation(r.p.m.) at which water
will just begin to spill over the top edge.

9- Will a beam of S = 0.65 and length 1500 mm long with a cross

section 136 mm wide and 96 mm height float in stable equilibrium
in water with two sides horizontal?

10- A floating body 100 m wide and 150 m long has a gross weight
of 60,000 ton. Its center of gravity is 0.5 m above the water
surface. Find the metacentric height and the restoring couple when
the body is given a tilt as shown 0.6 m.

11- A cylindrical buoy is 5 feet diameter and 6 feet high. It weighs

1500 Ib and its C.G. is 2.5 feet above the base and is on the axis.
Show that the buoy will not float with its axis vertical in sea water.
If one end of a vertical chain is fastened to the Centre of the base,
find the tension in the chain in order that the buoy may just float
with its axis vertical.
