Lab 2 Elektropneumatik
LABSHEET
OUTCOMES:
At the end of this laboratory works, students are able to;
1. Read and draw electrical wiring circuit diagram.
2. Assemble electro-pneumatics components based on electrical wiring circuit.
3. Determine the input and output (I/O) of a system.
4. Use pushbuttons, limit switch, reed switch and sensors in the electro-pneumatic system.
5. Explain the safety issues during working with electro-pneumatic systems.
EQUIPMENTS:
1 x Double acting cylinder 1 x pneumatic manifold
1 x 5/2 way double solenoid DCV – double solenoid 1 x sensor
1 x 5/2 way double solenoid DCV – single solenoid 1 x limit switch
1 x Air regulator and filter 3 x lamps and buzzer
1 x power supply 24VDC 4.5A 1 x reed switch
1 x switch box – 3 pushbuttons Cables
TASK 1
Aim:
Students able to read electrical wiring circuit diagram and assemble few electro-pneumatics components
based on the wiring circuit.
Procedure:
1. Assemble double acting cylinder, 5/2 way directional control valve, air regulator and manifold on the
trainer as in Figure 1. All electrical component boxes are already mounted on the trainer.
2. Check the compressor pressure as well as air regulator pressure. Purge the compressor if necessary.
3. Connect all pneumatic components with pneumatic tubes.
4. Connect all the electrical components using plug cables as shown in the wiring circuit in Figure 2.
5. Set trainer air pressure to 2 MPa.
6. Switch on the main valve at the air regulator.
7. Switch on the main switch at the DC power supply box.
8. Press pushbutton A and followed by pushbutton B. Observe what happen to the cylinder. Record your
finding.
9. Substitute pushbutton B with limit switch. Press pushbutton A and observe what happen. Record your
finding.
10. Switch off the main valve at the air regulator and the DC power supply once completing the task.

TASK 2
Aim:
Students able to assemble and verify an electro-pneumatic system with AND function and comparing the
application of limit switch and reed switch. Lamp is used as output.
Procedure:
1. Use the same pneumatic components final setup as in Task 1. Keep the limit switch in its position.
2. Remove all the cables and rewiring the components as depicted in Figure 3.
3. Switch on the main valve at the air regulator.
4. Switch on the power switch at the DC power supply.
5. Press pushbutton A and release, followed by pressing pushbutton B. Observe what happen to the
cylinder.
6. Then press pushbutton A and B together. Observe and record your finding.
7. Switch off the DC power supply. Remove limit switch cables and remove the limit switch aside.
8. Wired the reed switch at the cylinder. Switch on the DC power supply. Press pushbutton A and B
together. Discuss your findings.
9. Rewire the components where once the cylinder reaches maximum extend, the lamp will be switched
on. Figure 4.
10. Switch off DC power supply and main valve once the task is complete.

TASK 4
Aim:
Students are able design electro-pneumatic system where a sensor detects an object, a lamp is activated
and a double acting cylinder starts to extend. When the cylinder reaches maximum extend, a buzzer will
be activated and the cylinder retracts automatically.
Procedure:
1. Based on the task aim, install the required pneumatic components on the training panel.
2. Draw the electrical wiring diagram.
3. Connect all the wire to the electrical components.
4. Switch on the main valve and DC power supply.
5. Verify the system by putting your hand to the sensor.
6. Switch off DC power supply and main valve once the task is complete.
