F
F
Fq
Force will produce the effect of shear force on the bar if the force is perpendicular and no
moment applied at the cross-sectional.
equilibrium forces that occur in cross-sectional area
Fq=F
F = Force (N)
F q = Internal Transverse Force (N)
Fq
The action of force at the cross-sectional area will produce shear stress
Ƭ = Fq / A

i) Make sure the apparatus and its accessory are in good and save condition.
ii) Make sure the workplace environment is clean and tidy.
iii) Use an appropriate safety guideline of equipment handling.
iv) Place the apparatus to its initial place.
v) Keep the workplace clean and tidy.
vi) Do a report to the lecturer if any problem occured.
5.0 Procedures
1. Installed the dial gauge and the tip touching the iron plate shows the reading of 10 mm.
2. Adjust the dial gauge to ‘0’.
3. Place a weight F on the hook. Starting with 5N and get the dial gauge reading
4. Add weight to carry forward cycle in increments of 5N until the total weight of 100N and seek to
achieve dial gauge readings for each additional weight.
5. Fill in the result into the table 1.1.

7.0 Discussion
1. Plot the shear stress (Ƭ) versus shear angle (ϒ) graphs and get the slope being the value
of G.
2. Commented on the relationship between shear stress(Ƭ) and shear angle(ϒ) and then
compare the value of the modulus of rigidity(G) of the material obtained by the actual
value of G
3. Calculation Method : Show the example of calculation that use to get the value.
