Notification

THE COCONUT GROWING TRADE

IT is hereby notified under section 29 (3) of the Wages Boards Ordinance (Chapter 136), that the decisions of the
Wages Board for the Coconut Growing Trade made under section 30 of that Ordinance and specified in the Schedule
hereto, have been approved by the Hon. Minister of Labour Relations and Productivity Promotion.

The decisions shall come into force on the 01st day of July, 2010.

SCHEDULE
The decision made by the Wages Board for the Coconut Growing Trade and set out in the Schedule to the
Notification published in the Gazette Extraordinary, No. 9971 of 30th April, 1949 , as varied from time to time, and last varied
by the Notification published in Gazette Extraordinary, No. 1556/4 of 30th June, 2008, shall be further varied in that
Schedule as follows :-
(1) In Part II of that Schedule in the minimum wage for piece work applicable to the workers shall be as follows:-

The minimum rate of wages for time work in relation to above processess shall be :
Male or Female Worker - Rs. 310.00 per day
Notwithstanding anything to the contrary contained in the preceding provision of this Part, the minimum
rate of wages for time work for any worker enegaged in cattle keeping on Sunday shall be one and a half times the
minimum rate of wages for the work fixed for such worker in respect of a normal working day.
PART III “A”
The Minimum rate of wages for time work in relation to —
(a) the work of a Conductor,
(b) the work of a Watcher shall be.

ENGINEERING TRADE

IT is hereby notified under section 29 (3) of the Wages Boards Ordinance (Chapter 136), that the decisions of the Wages
Board for the Engineering Trade made under section 30 of that Ordinance and specified in the Schedule hereto have been
approved by the Hon. Minister of Labour Relations and Productivity Promotion.

The decisions shall come into force on the 01st of July, 2010.

Civil Engineering
Printers, masons mates and blacksmith mates employed in repairing construction and maintenance of roads including
Workers employed in cutting side drains secrifing the road surface, metal spreading loading unloading and filling of metal
tarring roads and concrete mixing by hand.

Mechanical Engineering
Blacksmiths, strikers and hammer men, fettlers (iron and brass), smelters (iron and brass). checkers (timber), sawyers,
caulkers (wood), boiler attendants, drivers (engine), firemen, tyre repairers, tyre vulcanizers, painters, bowmen, greasers,
cleaners, washers.

Electrical Engineering

Wiremen, electroplaters

Radio and Electronic Engineering

Assemblers, battery case manufacturers, (radio), solderers, fixers (screw), sealer cabinet cleaners, cutters, (chassis),
benders, painters (boards, dials, and badgers etc.,), checkers anodisers, packers, power press operators, set testers, unit
testers, etcher, (making of printed boards and transistors). buffing machine operators, sanding machine operators.

SKILLED WORKERS
Civil Engineering

Plumbers, blacksmiths, sign writers, polishers (appliers of French polish), masons, oil and steam roller drivers, ship
wrights, body builders hood makers, miners blasters and drillers sledgers, employed in repairing, constructing and maintenance
of roads.

Mechanical Engineering

Turners, machinists (iron and steel working), machinists (wood working), copper smiths, filters, boiler makers,
welders and burners, power hammer operators, molders (iron and brass), joiners,core makers, pattern makers, carpenters,
cabinet-makers, boat builders, saw sharpeners, machine knife sharpeners, launch tindals drivers, spilcers. rope and sail
makers, glazers driver mechanics. tinkers (motor), tinsmiths, riveters and caulkers, crane drivers.

Electrical Engineering

Electricians, armature winders, switch board attendants, radio and electronic technicians, (radio), transformer makers,
coil winder, casters, radio mechanics, polishers, (radio cabinet and other parts), transformer winders and assemblers, tuner

Boards for the Liquor and Vinegar Trade made under section 30 of that Ordinance and specified in the Schedule hereto have
been approved by the Hon. Minister of Labour Relations and Productivity Promotion.

Whenever a worker is employed to tap toddy for the Arrack Trade or Vinegar Trade, the aforesaid rate should be
paid to him for tapping Coconut, Kithul a Palmyrah palms subject to the condition that the alcohol content of the volume of
toddy delivered by him should be not less than 7.5%. However if the alcohol content of the volume of toddy is less than
7.5%, he should be paid in proportion to the aforesaid rate.

PART III

Minimum rate of wages for time work applicable to the workers specified in Column I shall be the corresponding
rates set out in Column II.

In any month where the period of unauthorized absence of a worker exceeds 4 days he shall be paid as wages for
that month the balance wage after deducting the proportionate amount of the monthly salary for the number of days
exceeding the authorized 4 days leave.

The minimum rates of wages for piece work for Beedi Rolling (inclusive of the preparation of wrappers for rolling,
cutting, wrapping leaves, filling wrappers with “Beedi Tobacco”, Beedi Rolling and tying rolled Beedies) shall be :-

(a) for Beedies not more than 2 inches long - Rs. 222.00 per 1000 Beedies ;
(b) for Beedies more than 2 inches long but less than 3 inches - Rs. 250.00 per 1000 Beedies ;
(c) for Beedies not less than 3 inches long - Rs. 276.00 per 1000 Beedies.

The minimum rates of wages for piece work for Beedi Rolling (inclusive of filling wrappers with “Beedi Tobacco”
Beedi Rolling and tying rolled Beedies but exclusive of the preparation of wrappers for rolling and cutting wrapping leaves)
shall be :-

(a) for Beedies not more than 2 inches long - Rs. 168.00 per 1000 Beedies ;
(b) for Beedies more than 2 inches long but less than 3 inches - Rs. 188.00 per 1000 Beedies ;
(c) for Beedies not less than 3 inches long - Rs. 208.00 per 1000 Beedies.

The minimum rates of wages for piece work for cutting, wrapping leaves (inclusive of the preparation of wrappers for
rolling) shall be :

(a) for Beedies not more than 2 inches long - Rs. 112.00 per 1000 Beedies ;
(b) for Beedies more than 2 inches long but less than 3 inches - Rs. 120.00 per 1000 Beedies ;
(c) for Beedies not less than 3 inches long - Rs. 130.00 per 1000 Beedies.

The minimum rates of wages for piece work for fixing ring labels round rolled Beedies shall be Rs. 28.00 per 1000
Beedies.

The minimum monthly rate of wages for time work applicable to workers of the below mentioned classes of
mechanized and non-mechanized factories of the Biscuit and Confectionary (Including Chocolate Manufacturing)
Manufacturing Trade shall be the rates set out in the table I and II respectively.

Class ‘A’ workers (Skilled)
(a) Biscuit Manufacturing :
Workers engaged in the following.– Operations connected with the mixing of dough including the cleaning of
mixing tubs and containers, weighing and measuring of ingredients, adding of chemicals, essences and colouring and
feeding the mixers ; Work connected with the cutting machine ; Operations connected with cutting and embossing the
baking of biscuit including the work of oven loaders and oven helpers, Operation connected with the stacking machine ;

(b) Confectionery Manufacturing :


Workers engaged in the following.– Boiling of ingredients : Work connected with the transferring of “batch” to
and from “hot tables” ; Work connected with the transferring of “batch” to and from “cool-tables” ; Operations connected
with the “batch feeder”, Work connected with the emptying of “batch” to trays ; Operations connected with “tableting
machine”, Operations connected with the “centre manufacturing machines” ; Work connected with the oscillating pans
including the adding of essences, sugar and colouring materials ; Operations with the sifting machine ; cleaning and
roasting of cocoa beans ; Emptying roasted cocoa beans into “refitting hull” ; Work connected with the “tempering
machine” and the “depositer” ; Work connected with the “vibrating” and the “cooling tunnel”.

Class ‘B’ workers (semi-Skilled)


(a) Biscuit Manufacturing :
Workers engaged in the following.– Work connected with the receipt and storage of flour and sugar margarine,
vegetable fat, glucose, lecine, essences, cocoa powder, cheese, malt, milk powder, chemicals, butter ammonia, baking
powder, eggs and other ingredients ; Work connected with loading and unloading, carrying and conveying of ingredients;
; Work connected with flour sifting spreading rolling and flattening of mixed dough on cutting table work connected
with carrying stacking loading and unloading of buscuit tins and packets ; pocketing heat sealing, labeling; packing and
pasting of cartoons ;

(b) Confectionary Manufacturing :


Workers engaged in the following. – Work connected with the receipt and storage of ingredients, including
glucose, sugar essences, cocoa beans, milk powder, vegetable butter, gelatin, chemicals and flavors ; Weighing, measuring
and mixing of ingredients ; weighing and packing of toffees, chocolates and sweets, collection of sweets in trays and drying
sweets in the heating room, the adding of gelatin and colouring material, Collection of jujubes in trays, weighing and
packing of jujubes rapping, Ibelling and packing of sweets and chocolates ; and any other operations or activities connected
with or incidental to the confectionery manufacturing.

Class ‘C’ workers (unskilled)


(a) Biscuit Manufacturing :
Workers engaged in the following - Operations connected with the breaking of dough ; Carrying of baked biscuit
to and from the cooling rack ; washing and cleaning of trays and containers ; Collecting and arranging cut biscuit ; and any
other operations connected with or incidental to Biscuit Manufacturing.

SCHEDULE

The decisions made by the Wages Board for the Hotel and Catering Trade and set out in the schedule
to the notification published in Gazette Extraordinary, No. 34 of 27th April, 1979 as varied from time to time and last
varied by the notification published in Gazette Extraordinary, No. 1564/12 of 28th August, 2008, shall be further
varied as follows:

The minimum monthly rates of wages for time work applicable to the Workers of the below - mentioned classes of the
Hotel and Catering Trade shall be the rates set out in Table 1.

PADDY HULLING TRADE

IT is hereby notified under section 29(3) of the Wages Boards Ordinance (Chapter 136), that the decisions of the Wages
Board for the Paddy Hulling Trade made under section 30 of that Ordinance and specified in the Schedule hereto have been
approved by the Honourable Minister of Labour Relations and Productivity Promotion.
The decisions shall come into force on the 01st day of July, 2010.

published in the Gazette Extraordinary, No. 1556/4 of 30th June 2008, should be further varied by the substitution
of the following new part for Part II of that Schedule.

WAGES

The minimum rate of wages for time work applicable to a worker (Male and Female) shall be Rs. 400.00 per day.

Board for the Cinema Trade made under section 30 of that Ordinance and specified in the Schedule hereto have been

published in Gazette extraordinery, No. 9961 of 30th March, 1949, as varied from time to time and last varied by the
Notification in the Gazette Extraordinary, No. 1556/4 of 30th June, 2008, shall be further varied, by the substitutin of the
following new part for Part I of that Schedule.

PART I

The minimum monthly rate of wages for time work applicable to the following classes of workers engaged in work
within and outside the Municipal Area in the Cinema Trade shall be the rates set-out in Table I and II below.
