About the Topic: The term “security” is widely used in everyday usage in many fields –
politics, health, food, the environment, economics, energetics, culture, education, agriculture,
medicine etc. This speaks about the power of this term. Many would agree that the word “security”
has a wide meaning. The concept of security and security studies as an academic domain started
during the inter-war period and had undergone enormous changes in the last few decades. The
concept of security and its studies have become essentially a contested domain since 1980s,
particularly from the post-cold war period. Despite this, the security discourses continued to be
dominated military, strategic and geopolitical perceptions. Health security, i.e. people’s protection
from disease and infections, availability and quality of health protection, people’s state of health,
development of the health protection system. The talk on “Public Health: National/International
Security” tries to raise the issues of health security in the context of current Covid-19 pandemic.
