    The contrast between fruit and vegetables is known to everyone, but still

    there is a debate on whether tomatoes are fruit or vegetable. Rupp, R. &

    Fey. T. state in National Geographic that “The word fruit comes from the

    Latin fructus or frui, meaning to enjoy and vegetabilis, which means

    growing (as in plants)” (Rupp, R., 2015, pp 81-82). Vegetables are more

    stolid and commonsensical. Fruits are tempting and scrumptious.

    According to botanists, fruit is an entity that develops from the fertilized

    ovary of a flower. On the other hand, vegetables are any edible part of a plant

    that doesn’t happen to be a fruit, as in leaves, stems, tubers, bulbs, and

    flowers. On this basis, it can be said that tomato is a fruit. Though scientists

    define fruits as the parts of a plant that bear seeds, so according to scientists,

    tomatoes are clearly fruits [ CITATION Han15 \l 1033 ]. According to culinary

    definition, fruits are the edible parts of a plant with a sweet flavor where

    vegetables are defined as the edible parts of a plant with a savory flavor

    [ CITATION Han15 \l 1033 ]. since there is the dibble part of the tomato plant and

    it contains both savory sweet taste. There are 5 basic tastes we have, such as:

    sweet, sour, bitter salty and savory. savory is a pleasant “meaty” taste with a

    lasting coating on the tongue[ CITATION Han15 \l 1033 ]. The taste of tomato is

    defined as a vegetable by cookers. In an 1893 case, the U.S. Supreme

    Court ruled that, for purposes of taxation, tomatoes are vegetables. The

    Supreme Court relied on the fact that tomatoes are usually used as

    vegetables since they are normally served with dinner and not as dessert.

    The ruling, though, only applied to tax law and did not attempt to

    reclassify tomatoes scientifically. Finally, in 2001, the European Union

    declared carrots, sweet potatoes, and the now thoroughly confused

    tomatoes all to be fruits (Rupp, R., 2015, pp 81-82).
