Ailes, Pel Martine A.

Part 2, Preliminary Examination

1.) Name two (2) general types of information provided by input devices.
*LO and HI input signal

2.) Explain why electrical isolation between input and solid-state logic circuits is necessary.
*It’s the best for electrical isolation, the isolation is to protect the sensitive circuit
or contacts from high-voltage input signal voltage AC to low-voltage input FC and the
other reason is for condensing or filtering of output signal from unnecessary noises to
the high input signal to solid-state circuit.

3.) Briefly discuss why information-gathering devices cannot give reliable operation under low-
voltage condition.
*If the information-gathering devices in a low-voltage it can’t be give an info to the
logic circuit because, the information-gathering is in low-voltage or turn off.

4.) Briefly discuss three (3) situations where solid-state logic is preferred.
*Relay Logic is the exposed to the atmosphere and it can accumulate dust and
debris that the dust and debris are the other cause why the relay can be damage.
*When we are in a flammable factory the Relay Logic are not suitable to use,
because we all know that the Relay Logic are operated by clapping two metal that
creates a spark and that spark are very dangerous in flammable area.
*In Solid-state Logic Circuit we don’t need a very big space for the circuit.

5.) Draw the logic circuit to implement the following conditions using relay logic: The solenoid
is energized if LS1 and LS2 are both actuated of if LS3 is actuated.
*the answer is in the picture attached in this upload.

6.) Using Fig. 1-15, if LS3 got stuck in the closed position, what would happen when the
operator pressed the START button? Explain.
*If the LS3 is closed the output of the and1 is low so, there is no latching in the
circuit.

7.) Using Fig. 1-16, explain what would happen if the two failures occurred at exactly the same
instant.
*Example, the High Gas Pressure and Low Air Pressure occurred at the same
time, only one alarm audio that you hear and that alarm is for High Gas Pressure,
because the High Gas Pressure are connected to NAND1, the output of NAND1 is
always Hi it can’t be change until you reset the whole system.
