ACTIVITY: REFLECTION PAPER
After hearing the reporter’s topic about the home economics, I was able to
benefit from a variety of new things such as the importance of family planning,
resource management and integration of my knowledge and skills in different areas
of everyday living. The notion of the home economics had help me to identify those
disciplines that I should possess including the application of scientific principles in
homemaking. These principles provide me the knowledge of making decisions about
my well-being, relationships, and resources to promote healthier and happier living.
One of the topics that was presented was the home economics as discipline.
As a graduate of Technical Vocational and Livelihood Education in Senior High
school taking up Housekeeping and Food and Beverage Services this discipline was
a big help to understood my previous course in a way that it provides the variety of
knowledge about incorporating both technical and creative aspects of its teachings.
These technical and creative teachings guide me on managing my duties and chores
involved in the running of a household, such as cleaning, cooking, home
maintenance, shopping, and bill payment in housekeeping. At the same time, it also
guides me on properly and professionally process of preparing, presenting and
serving of food and beverages to the customers.
The philosophy of home economics had given a deeper apprehension on

competent practice especially being a student. Competent practice that makes me
realize my personal, social and well-being responsibility. My personal responsibility
like being a child that should possess respect and love towards my family especially
my parents. My social responsibility which is being a student that should possess the
knowledge of having a wide notion on studying and find some practical work to help
my parents on the finances. Lastly, my well-being responsibility which is being a
human that should possess the whole sight and being in the world wherein taking
care to the environment and to obtain fundamental abilities like cooking, sewing and
funds to make sense and meaning within my life to help others in need.
After hearing the report on home economics in societal development, I had
interpreted that home economics does not only the process of individual progress
but a community advancement as well. As a child way back before, I lived on an
uncivilized village. There are lots of young ones who didn`t go to school in an early
age because of poverty and there are lots of parents who have so many kids
because of the lack notion of Family planning and work. As a result, our community
doesn`t earn some progress. Luckily the City mayor of Cotabato had visited our
community and provides the old one`s a sewer job to earn money like sewing some
rags, pillow cases and etc. and collected by a business staff in the scheduled time.
Before undergoing on the job our older one`s especially those mom`s and
grandma`s in the community undergo first a learning program that guides them on
properly do the work. We children provided a free schooling about home economics
before which tackles about how to sew, cook, clean and etc.
In managing a home, there is a need of a strong bond of relationship within

the family in order to achieve and organized the common goal for the family
development. I can easily say that building a relationship within our Family was a
simple thing to do but having a harmonious relationship with them was not quite
easy. I can say that within our family, a harmonious relationship was quite possible
because my mom was too far from us wherein, I can`t say that she provides the
responsibility of being a mom in a physical way. But being her not in here because of
working abroad, I can conclude that it is her way of earning the responsibility of
being our mom by providing all that we needed like our food, things in school and
financial necessities. We as a family can feel her love and care as well as she calls
us every Sunday. I can feel also the love of my father within the family because he
was here guiding us physically and emotionally. For me the importance of being a
Harmonious relationship within my family is that it binds me with them where I can
feel that I belonged to something that I love and care about the most wherein I can
run, cry and be happy in all ways on their arms.
Upon hearing about the topic on responsible parenthood, I had earned the
notion of having the ability of parents to respond to the needs and aspirations of the
family and children. I had set myself on the realization on does my mom and dad
provides us a responsible parenthood. Affixed to that realization, I had concluded
that my parents portray a responsible parenthood because they both detect our
needs of happiness and desires wherein, they help us to become responsible on our
decisions, fulfilled our demands, needs and rearing us up properly, they set rules
where we obey that obviously makes us be responsible all this time and lastly, they
love and care for us has never been less but more than the most. As a mere fact, my
parents are my role models on becoming a parent someday.
After analyzing the purpose of wholesome recreation activities, I can say that
it is essential on build strong bonds and feelings of self-worth within our family. It is
the way of interacting with the family in a joyful, unique and fun way. Within our
family this topic was not merely present because my dad was busy on work and my
mom was working abroad. I and my siblings are not that close enough to make some
fun and joyful things especially now that we are in our teenage years. So
unfortunately, we do only talk and reminisced some old stuffs about our childhood in
the dinner time which the way of alternating the wholesome recreation activities that
we can`t do.
In coping unexpected events at home reminds me of the most breakable thing

that happens within our family. That unexpected event was quite hard for me to
understand because it deals with my mom and dad relationship. Upon reading the
topic I do recognize that I had made some principles about coping up on the
unexpected event in my life. The first one is the talking of someone I trust the most
aside from my family which is my best friend whom I cried on and held some advice
on what to do. The second one is Accepting the unexpected events where in I
analyze the situation and pray for forgiveness and be strong because things will be
okay. And lastly Making it as a Learning opportunity that I can use on dealing with
different struggles that I may encounter in building my own family someday.
On stages of child care there are aspects that are in need to understood to
better mold a one child especially in terms of psychological and behavioral
development. This notion was essential for me as an adolescent because it is the
way of knowing how to take care and nurture a child in a proper way in the future. As
a result, I had gained the knowledge that child should be guided all along their
growth to constantly providing them the things that they want and need to know. This
topic was not only giving me the idea of how can I manage properly my child growth
someday but also applying it on other child that I can be encountered that was lack
of childhood care from their parents.
After hearing the topic about Marital concerns, I was totally clueless about it
because I never had born a child. But understanding the notion presented on the
report, I can say that it is essential on having a married life. I can say that marital
concerns should be primary resolved because being in a married life is the stepping
stone of having a good family afterwards. As a result, when I would marry someday,
I will find a man that can help me to cope up challenges in our marriage not by being
lame and easily lose hopes on problems. This topic helps me to gain the knowledge
of how to handle marital concerns like money problems where in working before
marriage is necessary, there should be trust to avoid confusions and problems within
the relationship and to create a consistent religious belief that makes a strong
relationship with God to be guided on molding a successful repair of our distress in
marriage life.
Finance and Resource Management is an essential thing within a family

because it is the way of properly managing the finances and sources that they have
to set what they need and wants. Within our family, we applied the primary needs
first before the wants such as bills of water, electricity, WIFI then food and everyday
needs. Knowing how to manage finances and resources we had in the family makes
us more efficient and never been experience the lack of food to eat, electricity and
water disconnection and stress about the lack of daily needs.
In conclusion, home economics does not only about the practices of

possessing the abilities and skills in working but to be a guide as well to realize the
purpose of well-being. As a student, this knowledge that I had composed within the
topic I mentioned above had made a better student and child within the society. It
has been a great realization that life is not a better one without home economics and
its purpose. As I go over with my journey in life this notion, I had collected will be my
guide to make new experience be useful and memorable. Hope that this
understanding of mine about home economics will be a great help and inspiration to
others that life is not only about individual happiness and experience but it is family,
community and widely encounter.
