How to fix STAAD.

Pro warning and

error
Question-in my project, there is multiple warnings and notes where
written in Description and attachment of project
Ans-You need to investigate the model thoroughly. There are lot of
modeling issues like orphan nodes, improper connectivity of the
members ( for example in the picture below none of the beams are split
at the column locations ), improper releases like cantilevers released at
the support points ( beam 6434, 6233 ...), MX releases which should be
taken out etc. I would suggest that you fix these and analyze just for
selfweight first and once the displacements and reactions look OK, then
only proceed with analysis for seismic and other loads.

Ques-when secondary falls on the primary beam we need to release

the moment
in direction we need to release whether MX or MZ or both the
directions
ans-You would only release moment when you do not want any moment
transfer between the beams and it would depend on the connection
between the members in your actual structure. These moments are with
respect to the local axes of the members. So for a Y-UP system which is
the default, MZ represents the major axis moment and MY represents
the minor axis moment. MX on the other hand represents the torsion. So
in general you would release MZ and MY but not MX.
Ques-**WARNING: IF THIS UBC/IBC ANALYSIS HAS
TENSION/COMPRESSION OR REPEAT LOAD OR RE-ANALYSIS
OR SELECT OPTIMIZE, THEN EACH UBC/IBC CASE SHOULD
BE FOLLOWED BY PERFORM ANALYSIS & CHANGE.**
Reason: When we provide a seismic definition, the program computes
horizontal base shear. This base shear is distributed among different
stories as storey shears. This storey shears are the applied seismic load
on the structure for which you analyses the structure. The load vector is
created with this loads. The program soles the structure and finds the
displacements and load vector of the static seismic load is wiped out
from memory.
If we need to reuse the load vectors like we have a REPEAT Load case
or SELECT or SELECT OPTIMIZED command, we need to tell the
program to keep the load vectors generated for static seismic load case
for future use. We need to use PERFORM ANALYSIS command
followed by a CHANGE command after each seismic load case.

Solution: We need to use PERFORM ANALYSIS command followed

by a CHANGE command after each seismic load case.
For example:-
UBC LOAD X 1

PERFORM ANALYSIS

CHANGE

LOAD 2 LOADTYPE Seismic TITLE UBC LOAD @ Z

UBC LOAD Z 1

PERFORM ANALYSIS

CHANGE
Ques-How to resolve the warning message- *WARNING- APPLIED
SELFWEIGHT IS LESS THAN TOTAL WEIGHT OF ALL
Ans-suppose u hv created a staad model after that u applied loads and
properties also, now after run analysis...u wil see the output file of the
staad after doing analysis u will add new members(changes) in geometry
and again run it,now see the output file of staad, now in Warnings it will
show the "selfwt is less than total wt of the structure.
it is becoz u did not assign the self wt to the changed members.
whenever u will make changes in geometry always keep in mind that u
have assign the selfwt to entire model(assign to view).
after assigning the self wt to entire model it wil not show that warning
again.

Ques-***WARNING - INSTABILITY AT JOINT ***NOTE -

VERY WEAK SPRING ADDED FOR STABILITY
Ans-Pointing to main three observations -

1. The structure is defined as "STAAD TRUSS", thereby defining all the

members of the frame as Truss member. This is creating instability
issues in the structure.

2. The Member Releases are defined for practically all the members, but
no member is there to carry the bending moments developed to transfer
to the foundation.

3. The Master-Slave relation defined may be reviewed, with respect to

the connectivity relation and directions.

Ques-Followings are the warnings that has been covered in video

Type 1) ** WARNING - PROPERTY FOR MEMBER 13
DUPLICATED. LAST VALUE USED.
Type 2) **WARNING- MEMBERS 29 & 20 ARE BETWEEN THE
SAME JOINTS.
Type 3) **WARNING- THE AXIAL COMPRESSIVE STRESS
EXCEEDS THE EULER STRESS FOR MEMBER 5
Type 4) **WARNING** SOME MEMBER SIZES HAVE
CHANGED SINCE LAST ANALYSIS.

Solutions (Watch Video or read following)

Type 1) ** WARNING - PROPERTY FOR MEMBER 13

DUPLICATED. LAST VALUE USED.
In Staad pro, we assign property of beam to beam member. Property
means physical property like size, density, material, shape etc of the
member. Sometimes two different property get assigned to single beam
and this warning appears. Best way to resolve this is to reassign material
property using toggle option in General -> Properties -> "Properties -
Whole structure" tab or you can simply go to editor file and delete
member form repeating property.

Type 2) **WARNING- MEMBERS 29 & 20 ARE BETWEEN THE

SAME JOINTS.
In Staad Pro, to create a beam you need two nodes. By connecting node
using add beam, you can create beam member. Note that you can create
only one beam between two nodes. If by mistake you create two
members between two nodes, this warning will appear. To resolve this
warning just delete the other non-required beam or merge the beams
from Tools menu. Go to Tools in menu bar -> Check Duplicate ->
Members. If there are duplicate members in your model it will highlight
with beam numbers, just click to merge to merge all duplicate beams to
one.(Nodes and joints are same thing.)

Type 3) **WARNING- THE AXIAL COMPRESSIVE STRESS

EXCEEDS THE EULER STRESS FOR MEMBER 5
When a very huge load compared to the load carrying capacity of the
member is applied on the member, this warning appears. Best way to
resolve this warning is to recheck all the loads and then if required
increase the size of the member.

Type 4) **WARNING** SOME MEMBER SIZES HAVE CHANGED

SINCE LAST ANALYSIS.
