Reflection Paper - Philosophy and Science
One might view these two concepts in a polarizing picture, but one cannot be at fault for
science and philosophy rarely steps on the same ground. Science, as a discipline of education,
conceives problems that deal with a fixed set of variables in a systematic and controlled
process, Philosophy on the other hand is concerned with understanding the abstractions of the
problems and the application of philosophical, ethical, and moral theories. However, one cannot
say which is superior to the other, as both are imperative factors that supplement Education as
a definitive whole. Science contributes to the dealings of the organic world in respect to biology,
chemistry, health, research, and the tangible aspects of life; Philosophy abates the subjects of
morality, ethics, reasoning, and the intangibility of the human mind. These two, although found
on the opposite end of the spectrum, works well in synergy to upholster the technicalities of
education. In conclusion, Science is the rigid cousin of Philosophy; unbending and very
definitive in its purpose of seeking out information, while Philosophy is its mellifluous
counterpart; unhurried, and no limitations in reaching its goal of ascertaining the questions of
the world. However different, Science and Philosophy both possess the ultimate cause of
making education the paramount source of awareness and the very key to unlocking the doors
of knowledge.
