GULAYAN sa
PAARALAN
PROGRAM (GPP)
Bonga Menor Elementary School is a
complete elementary school that caters to five
hundred ninety nine (599) school children this
school year 2019 – 2020.

The school is managed and headed by Mrs.


Dulce Vilma R. Galang, School Principal I, together
with its seventeen (17) teachers and one (1) utility
worker.

Generally, the school is a rural farming


community, located along the national road of
Barangay Bonga Menor, with its flat topographical
location making the school suitable in propagating
crops, seeds and vegetables.

As a public institution, the school adheres to


all the programs and projects of the Department of
Education and among these projects is the
Gulayan sa Paaralan with its primary objective of
raising the level of consciousness of school
children on the importance of food safety, basic
messages and concepts thus integrating the
concept in selected subjects in the basic education
curriculum.

It is a collaborative project of the DepEd, the
International Institute of Rural Reconstruction (IIRR),
and the Department of Science and Technology –
Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI).

To further promote vegetable production and


consumption among children, the Department of
Education (DepEd) has strengthened the
implementation of the “Gulayan sa Paaralan Program”
(GPP) in public elementary and secondary schools
nationwide.

In line with this, the school joined the Division


Search for the Outstanding School Implementers of
Gulayan sa Paaralan (GPP) pursuant to Division
Memorandum No. 92, s. 2019. The program aims to
“promote food security in schools and communities,
through self-help food production activities and values
among learners and appreciation of agriculture as a
life support system.”

In joining the program, the school sets its own


objectives, which are as follows:

 Establish school vegetable


gardens/nurseries and orchards as
seedling production center.
 Improve the nutritional status of the
school children.
 Provide a ready source of vegetable for
the school supplementary feeding;
 Plant and grow vegetable and fruit
bearing trees.
 Raise the level of public consciousness
on health and nutritional dimensions as
well as economic benefits by
establishing household and community
gardens.
 Inculcate among the students the
values of good health and nutrition,
industry, love of labor and caring for
others.
In general, it aims to set up sustainable food
programs in every impoverished community
with a battle cry of “ May Buhay sa Gulay”.It
also intends to raise awareness on the
hunger issue and encourage everyone to fight
against hunger.
