The key steps in designing a wall footing include determining loads, selecting trial dimensions, checking for bearing capacity and flexural capacity.

The steps involve determining loads, selecting trial dimensions for depth and width, checking for bearing capacity and shear capacity, designing for flexure, and checking development lengths.

The factors considered are gross allowable soil bearing pressure, self-weight of soil, and weight of footing. The net allowable pressure is used to determine the width of footing.

Design of Wall Footing

fc' = 24 Mpa db = 12 mm
fy = 415 MPa H= 1.2 m
γs = 16 kN/m^3 L= 1 m 1000 mm
γc = 23.6 kN/m^3 ρt = 0.0018
tw = 100 mm

I. Loads to consider

Considering 1 m strip of wall,

Dead load=

Masonry = 21.2 KN/m^3 (from NSCP- Table 204-2)

Plaster = 0.24* 2 = 0.48 KN/m^2

Live load=
Partition andinterior walls 0.25 KN/m^2 (Table 205-2)

Pd =(( 21.2*0.15)+0.48)x3x5 54.9 KN

Pl= 0.25 x 2.5 x 5 = 3.75 KN

P =Pd+ Pl = 45.75 + 3.125 = 58.65 KN

Pu = 1.2Pd +1.6Pl = 71.88 KN

using 12 mm diameter bars for flexure reinforcement

hf = ld+2db+75 = 299 mm
Say 300 mm 0.3 m

Minimum gross allowable soil bearing pressu 75 kPa

Maximum gross allowable soil bearing press 225 kPa

Using hf = 300 mm with qa= 225 kPa, the net

allowable soil bearing pressure is
qnet = qa - Ws-Wf= 225-(16*1.2)-(23.6-0.3)
203.52 Kpa

B = P/L qnet = 0.288178

Try B = 0.29 m 290 mm

qa = qmin + (2/3)(B+H-0.6)qmin 119.5 < qmax

Therefore qa= 119.5 Kpa

qu =Pu / BL = 202.24137931 Kpa 0.202241 Pa

II.Effective depth of footing considering one way shear

m = 0.5x(B-tw) = 95

Vu1 = quL(m-d1) = 0.248 (1000) (70-d)

φVc =0.75 0.17 √f'c b d = 0.75*0.17*√24 *1000* d

Vu <φVc

0.248 (1000) (70-d) = 0.75*0.17*√24 *1000* d

d= 19.894 mm

New value of thickness (hf) using 12 mm φ steel bars as flexure reinfocement of the footing

hf = d + 0.5db + 75 100.894

Required width B of footing with new hf = 110 mm 0.11 m

qnet = qa - Ws-Wf= 120-(16*(1.2-0.11))-(23.6-0.3) 99.464

B = P/L*qnet =48.875/99.464*1= 0.589661 ≈ 0.6 0.29 m

Therefore use hf = 110 mm and B= 600 mm

III. Design for felxure of footing:

using db = 12 mm
d1 = hf-(0.5db)-75 = 29 mm
d2 = d1 + db = 19 + 12= 41 mm
m = 0.5(B-tw) = 0.5(150-100) 250 mm
0.25 m
