    Introduction:

    Among the world’s finest Luxury Lodges.


    Located on Tasmania’s pristine east coast at the Freycinet
    National Park, Australia.
    Area: 3640 sq m or 0.899 acre or 0.364 hectares.
    Designed by Tasmanian architect Robert Morris Nunn and
    associates Circa Architecture.

    Architecture:

    The aim was to connect the resort’s experience to the surrounding


    environment, seamlessly joining the outside with inside to create
    a relaxing and rejuvenating retreat.

    This resort evokes a connection to the sea through references


    to waves, sea creatures, sand dunes and a flowing, organic form.

    The main resort building has a stingray- shaped profile- the long
    entrance is its tail and the building’s sides extend like wings.
    The reception at level 3, overseeing the suites; each suite This is flanked by 20 individual accommodation suites
    is oriented in manner so as to have a serene view of of 3 types: deluxe, premium and executive (the latter located to
    the water body the west of the site - furthest from the public areas).
    Furthermore, the grandness of the main resort building,
    is counteracted by a more personal and intimate scale in the suites.

    Since this resort was constructed in an area frequently


    plagued by drought, rain water collection and storage
    infrastructure were built (off-site) as part of the project for use
    by the development and the nearby township as well as sewage
    treatment facilities.

    Rainwater from roofs is also collected and re-used in the


    reflection pools, as well as water efficient
    devices being specified.

    The roof is made from curved Tasmanian
    wood beams, built in a ribbed structure
    with ply overlay, which forms a smooth
    underlay for the Polymea membrane.

    Although complex in concept, the build


    and look of the roof present a very simple
    view without dominating the entire
    structure of the resort.

    This resort takes its inspiration from the colours of the peninsula –

    -Pink granite of the Hazards Mountains


    -White beaches
    -Sapphire waters
    -Grey-green of the native bush land

    Emphasis on sustainable development :

    The development is concentrated on a limited footprint and all buildings are precisely located,
    allowing the remediation of natural vegetation and restoration of natural ecosystems where possible.

    To support the Government’s effort of saving the Tasmanian devils, a one-hectare, free-range enclosure
    is made to accommodate mature devils and to provide them with a safe and secure environment while
    also freeing up space for more breeding devils within government facilities.
