Curing Conditions
Air cure conditions should be applied rather than moist cure conditions for optimum
polymer film formation properties.
Air Content
Air has an adverse effect on mechanical strength properties of cement mortars, as
expressed by the Feret’s relationship:
k0
( )
D C (w+a) 2
Relative mechanical strength = 1+
C(I+k 1 +k 2 )
Where
k0 = Constant function of cement type
k1 = Pozzolanic activity coefficient
k2 = Filler activity coefficient
w= Water content
a= Air content
c= Cement content
DC = Cement specific gravity
Water Level
As a general rule and indicated by the Feret’s relationship, water should be held to the
lowest amount needed to achieve a suitable working consistency. By using a minimum
amount of water, maximum strength properties are obtained. As PRIMAL MC-330EF
shows a marked plasticizing effect, increasing amounts of PRIMAL MC-330EF used in
the cement mortar requires decreasing amounts of water for a suitable workable
consistency. The following defoamers were found to be efficient in PRIMAL MC-330EF
at a 0.5% level on emulsion: Tego™ LAE-511, Drew™ 210-693, Byk™ 037, Dehydran™
P-3215.
The following coalescing aids can be used up to a 5% level on the emulsion when
working at temperatures down to 5°C:
• Texanol™
• DOWANOL™ DPnB (Di-propylene glycol n-butyl ether)
• Butyl Carbitol™
The water content of the mortars was adjusted to provide equivalent workability.
Specimens were air cured for 28 days at 23°C and 50% relative humidity unless
otherwise stipulated.
Safe Handling Information The Dow Chemical Company Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) contain pertinent
information that you may need to protect your employees and customers against any
known health or safety hazards associated with our products. The Dow Chemical
Company recommends that you have your local Dow Advanced Materials technical
representatives supply you with MSDS on all our products before using them in your
facilities. We also suggest that you contact the suppliers of other materials recom-
mended for use with our products for appropriate health and safety regulations before
use.
Chemical Registration Many countries within the Asia-Pacific require the registration of chemicals, either
imported or produced locally, prior to their commercial use. Violation of these regulations
may lead to substantial penalties imposed upon the user, the importer or manufacturer,
and/or cessation of supply. It is in your interests to ensure that all chemicals used by you
are registered. The Dow Chemical Company does not supply unregistered products
unless permitted under limited sampling procedures as a precursor to registration.
Note on Asia-Pacific Product Product availability and grades vary throughout the countries in Asia-Pacific. Please
Line contact your local Dow Advanced Materials representative for further information and
samples.
