Instruction: From our discussion it must be clear that we have few organizations in
our country, which provide a more systematic approach in collection and compilation
of health and nutrition data. Now, let us check what we have learnt so far by
answering the check your progress exercise given herewith.

Check Your Progress Exercise

1. What is Nutrition Monitoring?

Nutrition Monitoring is the assessment of dietary or nutritional status at intervals with

the goal of detecting changes in a population's dietary or nutritional status. In the
nursing interventions classification, nutritional monitoring is defined as the collection
and analysis of patient data in order to prevent or minimize malnutrition. The goal of
nutrition monitoring and evaluation is to figure out how far the nutrition intervention
has progressed and whether the nutrition-related goals/expected outcomes have been
met. The goal is to  bring more consistency to the dietetics profession's assessment of
nutrition intervention effectiveness.

2. List the main objectives of Nutrition Monitoring.
 To describe a population's health and nutritional status, with a focus on specified
subgroups that may be at risk.
 To track the progression of one's health and nutrition through time.
 To give data that will aid in the investigation of disease causes and associated
factors, as well as the selection of preventative actions, which may or may not be
nutritional (for example, smoking).
 To offer information on how health and nutrition variables interact within
demographic subgroups.
 Estimate the prevalence of diseases, risk factors, and health problems, as well as
changes over time, to aid policy development.
 In order to determine met and unmet needs related to the target conditions under
research, nutrition programs will be monitored and evaluated for effectiveness.

3. List notable organizations/system involved with Nutrition Monitoring in our
country.

It is aligned with the Duterte Administration's 10-point Economic Agenda, the

Department of Health's (DOH) Health for All Agenda, the development pillars of
malasakit (protective concern), pagbabago (change or transformation), and kaunlaran
(development), and the Ambisyon 2040 vision.

The Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2017-2022 is an integral part of
the Philippine Development Plan 2017-2022 and consists of 12 programs and 46
projects that serve as a framework for actions that could be conducted by National
Nutrition Council (NNC) member agencies, other national government agencies such
as, Department of Health (DOH), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE),
Department of Education (DepEd),  local government units, non-governmental
organizations, academic institutions, and a private sector.

4. List the objectives and unique features of National Nutrition Monitoring we

have.
